Five 2022 recruits Texas should push for after Quinn Ewers

Getting Quinn Ewers was hopefully just the first domino of top players coming to Austin. Here are five 2022 recruits Texas should push for.

Texas’ recruiting class for the 2022 class has started off on a fantastic foot, landing four-star wide receiver Phaizon Wilson and five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Of course, Ewers is the big name that everyone in the country has taken notice of. Coaches, fellow 2022 recruits, and even a current Texas A&M player have expressed how big of a commitment Ewers is for the Texas program.

Now, Tom Herman and his recruiting staff must take the opportunity to push for another top-five recruiting class. Getting Ewers was hopefully just the first domino of many top players coming to Austin in the 2022 class.

Here are five recruits Texas should push for after landing Quinn Ewers on Friday afternoon:

Notre Dame Offers Top 10 ‘22 Running Back

Gi’Bran Payne, a 5-10, 190 pound running back from La Salle High School in Cincinnati was given a scholarship offer by the Fighting Irish on Thursday

One day after landing their next running back in class of 2021 commitment Logan Diggs, Notre Dame got right back after it on the recruiting trail as they made an offer to one of the top backs in the ’22 class.

Gi’Bran Payne, a 5-10, 190 pound running back from La Salle High School in Cincinnati was given a scholarship offer by the Fighting Irish on Thursday.

247Sports ranks Payne as a four-star talent and the tenth best running back nationwide in the entire 2022 recruiting class.  They also rank only four players in the entire talent-rich state of Ohio ahead of him in that class.

Payne has roughly 15 scholarship offers and on the Fourth of July named his then top ten teams which included Alabama, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Northwestern, Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia and Wisconsin.  It’s worth noting he did say in that announcement that his recruitment remains 100% open.

Payne averaged over 10 yards per carry as a high school sophomore, totaling 790 yards on 77 carries.  He also totaled 13 touchdowns (9 rushing, 3 receiving and an interception return) despite missing three games.

Indiana’s top player becomes Notre Dame’s first 2022 football commitment

For the second year in a row a four star OT from Indiana is Notre Dame’s first commitment to a recruiting class. Find out all the info!

“It’s like deja vu all over again” – Yogi Berra

A little over a year ago Notre Dame landed it’s first commitment to the 2021 recruiting class when in-state target, four-star offensive tackle Blake Fisher chose to stay close to home and attend Notre Dame.

Fast forward a little over a year and the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Saturday saw Brian Kelly and Notre Dame land their first commitment to the 2022 recruiting class in, get this, a four-star offensive tackle who happens to be ranked as the top player in the state of Indiana.

Joey Tanona, a 6-5, 280 pound offensive tackle from Zionsville, Indiana picked the Fighting Irish over the likes of Arizona State, Iowa, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and more.

Just how well is Tanona viewed?

ESPN ranks him as a top 100 player in the 2022 class (86 overall) while the two main recruiting outlets (247Sports and Rivals) rank him as a four-star player.

Fisher is a nice piece and offensive guard Rocco Splinder would be a great addition if he ends up choosing Notre Dame, but the ceiling for the impact of the entire offensive line in the ’21 class doesn’t appear as high as first hoped.

Tanona gets Notre Dame off to a nice start with a four-star player on board, something they’ll have to do a bunch of if things start to return to normal in the recruiting world and official visits can actually again be done in homes and on campuses.

Notre Dame Offers ’22 Star Offensive Tackle

Notre Dame joined the likes of Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State in offering a scholarship to this star offensive tackle.

Notre Dame joined plenty of powerhouse programs Friday by extending a scholarship to 2022 offensive tackle Joey Tanona.

The Zionsville, Indiana product is graded as a four-star prospect who 247Sports ranks in their top 150 prospects in the 2022 class.  The high school junior to-be ranks as the second best prospect from the state of Indiana in the 2022 class with only defensive tackle Caden Curry of Center Grove High School ranked above him.

Tanona now has 13 offers as Notre Dame and Ohio State both offered the star offensive lineman Friday morning.  Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State and Purdue are among the others to have offered Tanona.

It’s plenty early but Notre Dame does not yet have any players committed in the 2022 recruiting class.  Tanona’s list of offers will only grow as he figures to be one of the more desired players a year from now.

Notre Dame Becomes 20th Team to Offer 2022 Corner

Will Johnson of Grosse Pointe (South), Michigan received his 20th scholarship offer Thursday when Notre Dame offered the 6-3, 190 pound prospect who is given a four-star grade by 247Sports.

It may be NFL Draft day but Notre Dame is attempting to make moves to try and sure up the future of their football program.  The Fighting Irish already offered elite 2022 corner back Denver Harris on Thursday and news has now surfaced of them offering another star corner.

Will Johnson of Grosse Pointe (South), Michigan received his 20th scholarship offer Thursday when Notre Dame offered the 6-3, 190 pound prospect who is given a four-star grade by 247Sports.

Notre Dame joins the likes of LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas A&M and 14 others who have offered Johnson a scholarship.  Five Big Ten teams and four SEC schools are included on that.

Notre Dame offered highly sought after corner back Denver Harris of Houston, Texas today as well.

Notre Dame Offers Elite ’22 Defensive Tackle

Schrauth checks in at a massive 6-5, 265 pounds and has the biggest powerhouses in the mid-west in pursuit of his talent.  Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Western Michigan and Wisconsin have already extended offers and you’d assume with a list like that, more blue-bloods won’t be too far behind.

As the watch continues as to where the nation’s best high school football talents in the 2021 recruiting class will commit the push is already well-underway for the 2022 classes as well.  Today Notre Dame made an offer to a big-time ’22 prospect from the mid-west.

Billy Schrauth of St. Mary’s Springs in Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin is rated as the sixth best defensive tackle prospect in the nation from the early rankings 247Sports has given.  Their composite rankings grade him as a four-star talent early on.

Enjoy his sophomore year highlight tape below.  He’s being recruited nationally as a defensive tackle and you can see why but some of the most fun on his tape is him mauling young men as an offensive guard.
