Only 2 Alabama players selected in latest 2022 NFL mock draft

This mock draft projects only 2 Alabama stars to be selected on night one of the 2022 NFL Draft.

If Alabama football is a factory constantly producing NFL draft picks, then Nick Saban is the CEO. It seems like every single draft is full of Crimson Tide players, especially the first night.

However, Pro Football Network’s predicts only two Alabama players will be selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft.

15. Arizona Cardinals – Evan Neal, OT

(AP Photo/Vasha Hunt)

The first Alabama product slides well past the top 10, and nearly falls into the latter half of the first round to the Arizona Cardinals.

Hodgkinson explains the pick:

“Alabama’s Evan Neal is a man mountain at 6’7″ and 360 pounds. Despite his considerable size, he has decent mobility and speed while being as strong as they come. Neal is expected to play left tackle for the Crimson Tide this season, having previously lined up at right tackle and guard. That versatility will be highly coveted at the next level.”

21. Tennessee Titans – Christian Harris, LB

(AP Photo/Vasha Hunt)

The Titans may have made the biggest move of the 2021 offseason by trading for Julio Jones. Now, they add another former member fo the Crimson Tide to their team.

“Both Jayon Brown and Rashaan Evans are out of contract at the end of the year. It seems unlikely that they can keep both,” said Hodgkinson. “Alabama’s Christian Harris gives them a tenacious, athletic, and intelligent replacement. He can also hold his own in coverage as the result of his high school experience at cornerback.”

2022 NFL mock draft: Texans, Lions pass on top QB prospects

If the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions end up with the top two picks in the 2022 NFL draft, would they both pass on the top quarterbacks?

If you’re picking at the top of the NFL draft, chances are you either need a franchise quarterback, or you’re still waiting for one you recently picked early to fully develop.

If you don’t have a franchise quarterback of the present or future, passing on the best options at the top of the board is risky business.

That’s what happens in the latest 2022 NFL mock draft from Sports Illustrated, which has both the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions opting for defensive line help over the top quarterbacks with the first two selections.

At No. 1 overall, this projection has the Texans picking Oregon edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux, who is widely regarded as the best overall prospect in next year’s draft class. At No. 2 overall, the Detroit Lions also add to the defensive front, taking Texas A&M’s DeMarvin Leal.

For Houston, the future of Deshaun Watson is still a huge question mark, but they did just spend a third-round pick on Davis Mills in the 2021 NFL draft. The Lions just traded for Jared Goff, but if they end up picking second next year, it’s hard to imagine them being happy enough with his performance to pass up the top quarterback prospects in next year’s draft class.

The first quarterback doesn’t come off the board in this projection until No. 7 overall, where the Las Vegas Raiders end the Derek Carr era by taking Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler. The next passer off the board is a surprise, as Nevada’s Carson Strong heads to the Atlanta Falcons at No. 10 overall. North Carolina’s Sam Howell (No. 19 overall, New Orleans Saints) and USC’s Kedon Slovis (No. 22 overall, Denver Broncos) are the only other passers who crack this top-32 projection, leaving the likes of Liberty’s Malik Willis and Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder on the outside looking in.

2022 NFL mock draft: Which teams grab next year’s top QB prospects?

See where next year’s top quarterback prospects land in the latest 2022 NFL mock draft from CBS Sports

The 2022 NFL draft is still nearly a year away, but that hasn’t stopped early first-round projections from flying around in every direction.

The latest 2022 NFL mock draft comes from Josh Edwards of CBS Sports, and he has some intriguing landing spots for the top quarterback prospects in next year’s draft class.

At No. 1 overall, Edwards has the Houston Texans ushering in a new era at quarterback with North Carolina’s Sam Howell. The next passer doesn’t come off the board until the No. 13 overall pick, where Edwards has the Pittsburgh Steelers plucking Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler as the successor to Ben Roethlisberger.

The New Orleans Saints take the next quarterback in this mock, opting for USC’s Kedon Slovis at No. 22 overall, while the Denver Broncos grab Liberty’s Malik Willis at No. 24 overall.

Surprisingly, Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder is not among the quarterbacks projected to land among the top 32 picks in this mock.

The New York Jets spend both of their first-round picks on corners in this projection, taking LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr. at No. 3 overall, and pairing him with another SEC cover man in Florida’s Kaiir Elam at No. 21 overall. The Detroit Lions follow a similar path at defensive end, grabbing Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux at No. 2 overall and Ohio State’s Zach Harrison at No. 28 overall.

The Philadelphia Eagles spend their pair of Day 1 selections on defense, as well, taking Purdue edge defender George Karlaftis (No. 6 overall) and Clemson corner Derion Kendrick (No. 21 overall).

2022 NFL mock draft: Where do next year’s top prospects land?

See where next year’s top college football prospects land in the latest 2022 NFL mock draft from CBS Sports

We’re not even a month removed from the 2021 NFL draft, but early projections for next year’s event are already coming in from every direction.

The latest 2022 NFL mock draft from CBS Sports follows this year’s pattern of an early run on top quarterback prospects, with five passers coming off the board in the top 13 picks.

None of them take the No. 1 overall spot, though, as Oregon edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux lands with the Houston Texans in the top slot.

The first signal-caller off the board is Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler, who heads to the Detroit Lions at No. 2 overall, while North Carolina’s Sam Howell goes to the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 5 selection. Liberty’s Malik Willis is projected to the Washington Football Team at No. 8 overall, followed by USC’s Kedon Slovis at No. 9 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The fifth and final quarterback projection of this first-round mock is Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder at the No. 13 spot to the Minnesota Vikings.

Two cornerbacks land in the top five in this projection: LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr. (No. 3 overall, New York Jets) and Ohio State’s Sevyn Banks (No. 4 overall, Cincinnati Bengals). Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton (No. 6 overall, New York Giants), Mississippi State offensive lineman Charles Cross (No. 7 overall, Jacksonville Jaguars) and Alabama linebacker Christian Harris (No. 10 overall, Carolina Panthers) fill out the rest of the top 10.

Spencer Rattler lands in ESPN’s 2022 first round mock draft

Spencer Rattler is going to be a huge name in the 2022 NFL draft, so where does Todd McShay see him landing in his initial mock?

The mock drafts continue to pour in for next year’s class despite being just days removed from the 2021 NFL draft. Continue reading “Spencer Rattler lands in ESPN’s 2022 first round mock draft”

Vikings select DE George Karlaftis in Todd McShay’s 2022 mock

But wait. Didn’t the 2021 NFL Draft just happen? Why are we talking about the 2022 NFL Draft already?

Because that’s showbiz, baby!

Todd McShay over at ESPN already has his 2022 mock draft out.

With the 13th overall pick, McShay has the Vikings drafting Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis.

Here’s what McShay wrote about the pick:

Karlaftis dominated in 2019 with 17 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 54 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble. But the 6-foot-4, 275-pound edge rusher was limited to three games in 2020 after testing positive for COVID-19. Patrick Jones II, the Vikings’ fourth third-round choice on Friday night, provides depth on the edge but isn’t likely to be a high-impact starter opposite Danielle Hunter. Karlaftis can be that. After being among the top five teams in sacks in 2018 and 2019, Minnesota ranked in the bottom five in 2020, with 23.

Defensive end was a need heading into the 2021 NFL Draft and while the Vikings did draft Jones in the third round, there’s still a world in which the Vikings need help at that position next season.

DraftWire’s 2022 NFL mock draft: Georgia has two first-rounders

This 2022 NFL mock draft has two Georgia football players go in the first round.

The 2021 NFL draft recently came to a close, with the three-day event wrapping things up on Saturday in Cleveland.

Georgia saw nine players selected during this year’s draft, setting a school record, and could very well look to break that record next year.

The Dawgs are loaded with talent and have every intention on competing for a national championship this upcoming season.

With all that returning talent, the Bulldogs will be heavily represented in next year’s draft.

USA TODAY’s Draftwire recently released a 2022 NFL mock draft which featured two UGA players going in the first round.

2022 NFL Draft Top Pro Prospects: Pre-2021 NFL Draft

How crazy is it to try figuring out the best pro prospects a year or two in advance? If you’re an NFL general manager, you’ve got to know what’s coming down the road to judge the value of the upcoming draft.

And then Joe Burrow happens. Or Mac Jones.

We almost didn’t have a 2020 college football season. Just imagine, Zach Wilson probably wouldn’t be a first rounder much less the No. 2 overall pick, Jones would be just another promising quarterback, and DeVonta Smith wouldn’t have the same juice without that season.

However, opting out didn’t make too much of a difference for the best of the best prospects. Any GM worth his salt already knew what Penei Sewell and Micah Parsons could do.

The idea here is to create a starting point and a set of expectations. In last year’s version of the Top 32 Pro Prospects piece, for every Trevor Lawrence on the list there was a KJ Costello. For every Justin Fields and Trey Lance, there was a Walker Little and a Chuba Hubbard who slid in the process.

With the understanding that this can and will change over the next few months much less the next year – and understanding that at least 32 others could’ve made this list – 32 of the top pro prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft are …

[lawrence-related id=530885]

32 LB Ventrell Miller, Florida

The Gators’ leading tackler came up with 86 stops with 3.5 sacks in his 11 games of work, and now he’s going to be on the radar as a dangerous outside linebacker with the speed to get sideline-to-sideline and be used even more as a pass rusher. He’ll work inside, but with his 6-1, 225-pound size, he’ll have to be used on the outside at the next level.

31 WR John Metchie, Alabama (Jr.)

No one’s expecting DeVonta, or Jaylen, or Ruggs, or Jeudy, but Metchie is the next dangerous Tide receiver. The 6-0, 195-pounder finished second on the team with 55 catches for 916 yards and six touchdowns as he stepped up in a big way when Jaylen Waddle went down.

30 DE/EDGE Merlin Robertson, Arizona State

A true hybrid for the outside, he’s a linebacker who can do anything you need, but he’ll be at his best when allowed to take off and get in the backfield. He made 151 tackles with seven sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss in his first two seasons, and came up with 20 stops in three games last year.

29 QB Tyler Shough, Texas Tech (Jr.)

Please by kind here for potentially underestimating him. With his size, arm, and mobility, he’s one great season away from possibly being No. 1 on this list.

The 6-5, 220-pounder was a huge recruit for Oregon as the next great Duck QB after Justin Herbert moved on. He got his shot last year, but was just okay hitting 64% of his throws with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions with 271 rushing yards and two scores in seven games. He led the team to the Pac-12 title, though.

Now he gets to operate the Matt Wells offense at Texas Tech.

28 QB JT Daniels, Georgia (Jr.)

There was some concern early on last season that his knee wasn’t quite ready after injuring it at USC, but the transfer took over late in the 2020 season and Georgia became a different team. The former super-recruit got to USC after his junior year, and while he was fine, he played like he needed the seasoning.

The arm talent is great, the deep ball ability is there, and after throwing for 1,231 yards and ten touchdowns with two picks in his limited time with the Dawgs, he could move up the draft charts in a hurry.

27 OT Rasheed Walker, Penn State (Soph.)

Already a great veteran with All-Big Ten honors and 22 starts in his first two years, he’s just getting going. Just a third-year sophomore, he’s a 6-6, 312-pound left tackle who can move, can pound, and is still growing into the job. He’s still a project, but if he takes that next step up in his third year as a starter – if he’s a steady force as a pass protector – the NFL will be ready for him as a starting left tackle.

26 DE George Karlaftis, Purdue (Jr.)

He’s coming off a rough year after getting hit with COVID and suffering a leg injury, but when he’s right, he’s an NFL pass rusher who’s always working to get behind the line. He has to get back his groove, but at 6-4 and 275 pounds, he’s got the size, and he’s got the talent – he made 7.5 sacks with 17 tackles for loss as a freshman.

2022 NFL Draft Top Pro Prospects By Position: Pre-2021 NFL Draft

Everyone knew before the 2020 college football season began that Trevor Lawrence was going to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Zach Wilson as the slam-dunk No. 2 – at least, he’s expected to be the slam-dunk No. 2 – not so much.

No one in a million years would’ve pegged Joe Burrow to be the sure-thing No. 1 overall pick in 2020, and there obviously will be more shockers like him who become NFL Draft household names by next April.

Every year, a whole slew of guys we all think will be certain first round picks turn into late round fliers – and vice versa – so the idea here is to create a starting point that gets it somewhat close to the pin.

Who has the best combinations of talent, NFL size, NFL tools, and NFL upside to look ahead to 2022 – all while still figuring out the 2021 NFL Draft?

Here’s the first look at the 2022 NFL Draft with ten of the most promising prospects at every position among those who will be eligible – not yet, DJ Uiagalelei fans.

If you don’t see your guy here – or don’t like where he’s ranked – relax. We’ll go in-depth with the more detailed lists just before the season, and obviously this will change up wildly several times before the 2022 NFL Draft gets going in Las Vegas.
