Now that we know what the first 28 picks are in the 2023 NFL Draft – the order of the last four doesn’t matter that much considering the teams involved and their respective needs – here’s our first look what the whole first round might be.

As always, the mock drafts will change many, many times over before this gets going on April 27th. Until it actually happens and Chicago trades away the No. 1 overall pick – if it trades down to a quarterback-starved team – we’re going to play it straight.

2022 NFL Draft: First Round Mock Draft Post-Combine

And there’s the next step in the process.

It’s not like the NFL Combine should tell any GM or scout anything they didn’t already know, but when a 340-pound defensive tackle runs like a tight end, and when the class of receivers are all ripping off sub-4.4s, there’s a buzz.

The most important part of the NFL Combine is what no one sees – the interviews. The meet-and-greets, the sewing circle scuttlebutt, and the chances to get to know some of the prospects a wee bit make the biggest impact.

And then come the pro days, when the stars show what they can do under ideal conditions with everything staged to make them look perfect.

After all the fun in Indianapolis, how does the 2022 NFL Draft first round look?

Now we know the order after Los Angeles pulled off the thriller over Cincinnati to win the Super Bowl and everyone will react and overreact.

The 2022 draft will come down to two key things: 1) how much does everyone value the relatively mediocre – but wanted – class of quarterbacks, and 2) can the teams at the top trade out of their spots and move down?

There isn’t a sure-thing No. 1 overall pick, and there will be lots and lots of movement.

For this version of the 2022 Mock Draft, we give the call along with a likely second option if the first call doesn’t happen.

32 Detroit Lions (from Los Angeles Rams)

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: DT Devonte Wyatt, Georgia

Mock Draft Backup Option: QB Sam Howell, North Carolina

Here’s a general call on how Detroit will see this draft – it’s going to find anchors on the defensive front to build around. It’ll get its pass rusher at the 2, and it’s run-stuffer here.

31 Cincinnati Bengals

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OT Bernhard Raimann, Central Michigan

Mock Draft Backup Option: OT Nicholas Petit-Frere, Ohio State

It’s criminal what defensive fronts did to Joe Burrow this year. He might be the NFL’s new superstar, but he’ll have a shelf life of about ten more minutes if he doesn’t get some protection. Two words: Aaron Donald.

30 Kansas City Chiefs

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OT/OG Zion Johnson, Boston College

Mock Draft Backup Option: OT Bernhard Raimann, Central Michigan

Kansas City marches to the beat of its own drafting drummer, but in terms of need, it’s about cranking up options to keep upgrading the offensive line. The running game has been good, but can it take over games late? A masher like Johnson would help.

29 Miami Dolphins (from San Francisco)

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: WR Jahan Dotson, Penn State

Mock Draft Backup Option: OT/OG Zion Johnson, Boston College

Dotson might seem like a luxury item for a tam that needs to rebuild the foundation, but if the Dolphins really want to see what Tua Tagovailoa can do, the Penn State deep threat is the call. Defensive backs wouldn’t have a prayer with Jaylen Waddle on the other side.

28 Green Bay Packers

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: WR Chris Olave, Ohio State

Mock Draft Backup Option: TE Trey McBride, Colorado State

So, Green Bay. You’re “all in” on trying to keep Aaron Rodgers? Giving him yet another weapon to work with would be a big step, and landing Olave here would be a ridiculous steal.

27 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OG Kenyon Green, Texas A&M

Mock Draft Backup Option: OT/OG Zion Johnson, Boston College

The Bucs have to find a quarterback, but it won’t matter who they get if the offensive line doesn’t get some fresh new options. This should be a sweet spot for a top guard.

26 Tennessee Titans

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: WR Drake London, USC

Mock Draft Backup Option: OG Kenyon Green, Texas A&M

The Titans have to think long and hard about a blocker like Green to help upgrade the line, but they need a dangerous No. 2 wide receiver to help out AJ Brown even more.

25 Buffalo Bills

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: DE Travon Walker, Georgia

Mock Draft Backup Option: OG Kenyon Green, Texas A&M

Flip a coin on positions for the Bills here. The defense is already amazing, but it mostly rocked against the mediocre teams. It could use just a wee bit more help up front, but the O line needs attention, too.

24 Dallas Cowboys

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: S Daxton Hill, Michigan

Mock Draft Backup Option: OG Kenyon Green, Texas A&M

Oh will this be a fight among the Cowboy brass. The team has improved by leaps and bounds over the years by boasting one of the league’s best offensive lines, but a top defensive back – primarily a safety – would do more immediate good.

23 Arizona Cardinals

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: DE Jermaine Johnson, Florida State

Mock Draft Backup Option: DE Travon Walker, Georgia

This becomes the wild card part of the draft. There’s a whole lot happening with the Cardinals right now – Kyler Murray doesn’t appear to be too happy – but the defensive side could use a few more pieces up front.

22 Las Vegas Raiders

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: WR Jameson Williams, Alabama

Mock Draft Backup Option: WR Drake London, USC

Which injured wide receiver will be a Raider? The vertical passing game needs a main man, and either Williams or London will work just fine … eventually.

21 New England Patriots

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: LB Nakobe Dean, Georgia

Mock Draft Backup Option: TE Trey McBride, Colorado State

Don’t be shocked if the Patriots give Mac Jones his new best friend and safety valve in McBride. However, that should come later. Be afraid of Bill Belichick gets Dean this late in the first round.

20 Pittsburgh Steelers

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: C/G Tyler Linderbaum, Iowa

Mock Draft Backup Option: QB Matt Corral, Ole Miss

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Pittsburgh wants a quarterback, and it will probably go with Corral, Malik Willis, or Kenny Pickett if one of them falls here. But it’s Pittsburgh, it values linemen, and that front five needs a whole lot of help. It might start with drafting its center for the next decade.

19 Philadelphia Eagles

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: CB Trent McDuffie, Washington

Mock Draft Backup Option: S Daxton Hill, Michigan

Just assume the Eagles will fill the more pressing needs in the first part of the draft and wait for the best defensive back option here. McDuffie would hard by a bad consolation prize to help the corner situation.

18 New Orleans Saints

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: QB Matt Corral, Ole Miss

Mock Draft Backup Option: CB Trent McDuffie, Washington

Don’t be so sold on the idea of the Saints taking a quarterback here. They need a whole lot of of work in a whole lot of spots, but Corral is the type of all-around baller who might free up a whole lot of possibilities for free agent money going elsewhere.

17 Los Angeles Chargers

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: DT Jordan Davis, Georgia

Mock Draft Backup Option: CB Trent McDuffie, Washington

Where are the offensive tackles at this point? There’s a shot the Chargers find more help for the offensive front, but they need work in the defensive interior even more.

And now it gets really fun.

The Senior Bowl was the next big step in the process with the workouts and the NFL Scouting Combine – coming March 1st – up next. The Senior Bowl game itself doesn’t really matter, but the practices sure did.

Who generated the biggest buzz around Mobile, and did the week change some things up? Yeah, in a big way.

Here’s the latest edition of our NFL Mock Draft with the deeper dive coming after the Super Bowl next week.

The last two are in alphabetical order depending on who wins the Super Bowl.

31-32 Cincinnati Bengals

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OT/OG Zion Johnson, Boston College

This might be a tad bit too early, but for a team that needs more offensive help to protect Joe Cool, Johnson is as solid as they come late in the first. He proved in Mobile he’s ready to handle the work.

31-32 Detroit Lions (from Los Angeles Rams)

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: Edge Jermaine Johnson, Florida State

Could the Lions really go with another pass rusher if it goes all in with Kayvon Thibodeaux at the 2? Yup. There won’t be any quarterbacks here to jump on, and Johnson showed this week just how much of a must have he is.

30 Kansas City Chiefs

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OT Bernard Raimann, Central Michigan

More O line, more O line, more O line. Raimann will be an interesting call. He could slide to the early third, or someone might fall in love and take him in the top 20. The skills are there.

29 Miami Dolphins (from San Francisco)

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: WR Jahan Dotson, Penn State

Anything interesting happening in Miami? It’s this simple. No matter what, Miami needs more pop and firepower. Pair the speed of Dotson with Jaylen Waddle, and look out.

28 Green Bay Packers

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: WR Chris Olave, Ohio State

This all depends on who’s still around, but no matter what, the Packers need to keep pumping in the receiver options even if Aaron Rodgers isn’t around to enjoy them.

27 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OT/OG Kenyon Green, Texas A&M

Obviously the Tampa Bay thing just got funky with the retirement of 12, but that can be fixed in free agency if the Kyle Trask era isn’t about to begin. Green might not be a QB, but he’ll be a solid ten-year pro for the interior line.

26 Tennessee Titans

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: WR Drake London, USC

The Titans need more help around AJ Brown, and Julio Jones just isn’t it. Here’s the big wide receiver to add more pop to the attack.

25 Buffalo Bills

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: DT Devonte Wyatt, Georgia

He went from being a first rounder to a must-have first rounder after the Senior Bowl practices before an ankle injury.

24 Dallas Cowboys

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: CB Trent McDuffie, Washington

The Cowboys will take whatever top corner is still on the board. For all of the amazing things Trevon Diggs does, this secondary needs more help.

23 Arizona Cardinals

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: CB Andrew Booth, Clemson

Flip a coin here between Booth and Washington’s Trent McDuffie. There’s a high risk, high reward thing with Booth, but he’ll look fantastic over the next few months in workouts.

22 Las Vegas Raiders

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OT Charles Cross, Mississippi State

He’ll slide a bit with all of the buzz about Trevor Penning, but the Raiders will need as many offensive linemen as they can get in this draft. They’ll take the best on the board.

21 New England Patriots

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: TE Trey McBride, Colorado State

Bill Belichick might not have a whole lot of luck drafting wide receivers early, but he knows his tight ends. There will never be another Gronk, but McBride has become a must-get safety valve for someone with a young quarterback.

20 Pittsburgh Steelers

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: C/G Tyler Linderbaum, Iowa

There’s no way Linderbaum lasts this long … maybe. Interior lineman is a luxury for most of the teams picking in the top 20. The Steelers need a quarterback, but first they’ve got to rebuild the O line to block for Najee. The franchise doesn’t have any luck with centers, does it?

19 Philadelphia Eagles

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: S Daxton Hill, Michigan

Opinions on Hill will be all over the place – he could slide to the early second – but the Eagles need defensive back help, and Hill is a right-pick-right-guy-right-time selection as the team’s third 1st rounder.

18 New Orleans Saints

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: QB Kenny Pickett, Pitt

If it’s not Matt Corral at the 11 to the Commies – uh, Commanders – it’ll be Pickett. He’s a good prospect who’ll be a fine pro, but he’s not going to show off the same pop as Malik Willis in the workout process.

17 Los Angeles Chargers

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: DT Jordan Davis, Georgia

Take your pick of several good defensive tackles available here. This is the Good Value section for the big guys in the middle.

16 Philadelphia Eagles (from Indianapolis)

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: WR Jameson Williams, Alabama

Draft him, wait for the knee to get right, enjoy the payoff. He’s the first receiver off the board if he didn’t tear his ACL in the National Championship.

15 Philadelphia Eagles (from Miami)

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: DE George Karlaftis, Purdue

The Eagles will take a pass rusher with one pick, and a wide receiver with another – assuming they stay put. Karlaftis might not be as flashy as some of the top Edge guys, but he’s a true defensive end who fits.

14 Baltimore Ravens

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OT Trevor Penning, Northern Iowa

The Senior Bowl helped cement him as the likely next big tackle off the board after the first wave of stars are gone.

13 Cleveland Browns

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: WR Garrett Wilson, Ohio State

The Browns can work on defensive tackle a little bit later. They need a whole lot more reliable receiving help, and it starts here.

12 Minnesota Vikings

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: CB Derek Stingley Jr., LSU

Oh, the process. Stingley seemed like a sure-thing top five overall pick last year at this time, but it’s been a few years since he dominated and he should slide out of the top ten. Minnesota won’t mind.

11 Washington Commanders

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: QB Matt Corral

Flip a coin between Kenny Pickett and Matt Corral. Pickett is the safer, steadier call, but Corral offers more versatility.

10 New York Jets (from Seattle)

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: CB Ahmad Gardner, Cincinnati

Yeah, Gardner might be top five once we’re all done with the Mock Draft process, and he could even go to the Jets at 4. They’ve got to improve the secondary, and the best corner on the board does the instantly.

9 Denver Broncos

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: LB Nakobe Dean, Georgia

Where is he going to play, inside or out? It doesn’t matter. He’s a do-it-all-defender who won’t get out of the top ten.

8 Atlanta Falcons

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: DE David Ojabo, Michigan

Atlanta’s eternal search for more pass rushers continues. The best one on the board is gone in a snap.

7 New York Giants (from Chicago)

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: LB Devin Lloyd, Utah

Assuming the Giants go offensive line with the 5, it’s pass rusher here – unless Kayvon Thibodeaux slides. Lloyd might not be the exact type of pass rushing linebacker the Giants might be looking for, but he’s a force on the inside.

6 Carolina Panthers

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: QB Malik Willis, Liberty

Kenny Pickett ruled the Senior Bowl, but Willis was the one who had everyone talking in the practices. The tools, the talent, the upside, the personality – Willis showed it all to the scouts.

5 New York Giants

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OT Ikem Ekwonu, NC State

It’s either Ekownu or Evan Neal. Whichever one slides gets snapped up.

4 New York Jets

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: S Kyle Hamilton, Notre Dame

Defensive back, defensive back, defensive back. Hamilton is the safety everyone will want, but CB Ahmad Gardner out of Cincinnati could go this high.

3 Houston Texans

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: OT Evan Neal, Alabama

He’s not moving past the 3, and he might be No. 1 overall. There’s a chance Detroit – even though it doesn’t need a tackle – could take him and shuffle some things around.

2 Detroit Lions

2022 Mock Draft First Call: DE Kayvon Thibodeaux, Oregon

Like Jacksonville, Detroit will likely try to move down out of this pick. Thibodeaux seems the be cooling off, but he’s one big workout away from changing the narrative.

1 Jacksonville Jaguars

2022 Mock Draft Latest Call: DE Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan

The Jaguars will push to trade out of the spot, but they need a pass rusher if they stick around.

2022 NFL Draft Top Pro Prospects: Pre-2021 NFL Draft

How crazy is it to try figuring out the best pro prospects a year or two in advance? If you’re an NFL general manager, you’ve got to know what’s coming down the road to judge the value of the upcoming draft.

And then Joe Burrow happens. Or Mac Jones.

We almost didn’t have a 2020 college football season. Just imagine, Zach Wilson probably wouldn’t be a first rounder much less the No. 2 overall pick, Jones would be just another promising quarterback, and DeVonta Smith wouldn’t have the same juice without that season.

However, opting out didn’t make too much of a difference for the best of the best prospects. Any GM worth his salt already knew what Penei Sewell and Micah Parsons could do.

The idea here is to create a starting point and a set of expectations. In last year’s version of the Top 32 Pro Prospects piece, for every Trevor Lawrence on the list there was a KJ Costello. For every Justin Fields and Trey Lance, there was a Walker Little and a Chuba Hubbard who slid in the process.

With the understanding that this can and will change over the next few months much less the next year – and understanding that at least 32 others could’ve made this list – 32 of the top pro prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft are …

[lawrence-related id=530885]

32 LB Ventrell Miller, Florida

The Gators’ leading tackler came up with 86 stops with 3.5 sacks in his 11 games of work, and now he’s going to be on the radar as a dangerous outside linebacker with the speed to get sideline-to-sideline and be used even more as a pass rusher. He’ll work inside, but with his 6-1, 225-pound size, he’ll have to be used on the outside at the next level.

31 WR John Metchie, Alabama (Jr.)

No one’s expecting DeVonta, or Jaylen, or Ruggs, or Jeudy, but Metchie is the next dangerous Tide receiver. The 6-0, 195-pounder finished second on the team with 55 catches for 916 yards and six touchdowns as he stepped up in a big way when Jaylen Waddle went down.

30 DE/EDGE Merlin Robertson, Arizona State

A true hybrid for the outside, he’s a linebacker who can do anything you need, but he’ll be at his best when allowed to take off and get in the backfield. He made 151 tackles with seven sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss in his first two seasons, and came up with 20 stops in three games last year.

29 QB Tyler Shough, Texas Tech (Jr.)

Please by kind here for potentially underestimating him. With his size, arm, and mobility, he’s one great season away from possibly being No. 1 on this list.

The 6-5, 220-pounder was a huge recruit for Oregon as the next great Duck QB after Justin Herbert moved on. He got his shot last year, but was just okay hitting 64% of his throws with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions with 271 rushing yards and two scores in seven games. He led the team to the Pac-12 title, though.

Now he gets to operate the Matt Wells offense at Texas Tech.

28 QB JT Daniels, Georgia (Jr.)

There was some concern early on last season that his knee wasn’t quite ready after injuring it at USC, but the transfer took over late in the 2020 season and Georgia became a different team. The former super-recruit got to USC after his junior year, and while he was fine, he played like he needed the seasoning.

The arm talent is great, the deep ball ability is there, and after throwing for 1,231 yards and ten touchdowns with two picks in his limited time with the Dawgs, he could move up the draft charts in a hurry.

27 OT Rasheed Walker, Penn State (Soph.)

Already a great veteran with All-Big Ten honors and 22 starts in his first two years, he’s just getting going. Just a third-year sophomore, he’s a 6-6, 312-pound left tackle who can move, can pound, and is still growing into the job. He’s still a project, but if he takes that next step up in his third year as a starter – if he’s a steady force as a pass protector – the NFL will be ready for him as a starting left tackle.

26 DE George Karlaftis, Purdue (Jr.)

He’s coming off a rough year after getting hit with COVID and suffering a leg injury, but when he’s right, he’s an NFL pass rusher who’s always working to get behind the line. He has to get back his groove, but at 6-4 and 275 pounds, he’s got the size, and he’s got the talent – he made 7.5 sacks with 17 tackles for loss as a freshman.

2022 NFL Draft Top Pro Prospects By Position: Pre-2021 NFL Draft

Everyone knew before the 2020 college football season began that Trevor Lawrence was going to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Zach Wilson as the slam-dunk No. 2 – at least, he’s expected to be the slam-dunk No. 2 – not so much.

No one in a million years would’ve pegged Joe Burrow to be the sure-thing No. 1 overall pick in 2020, and there obviously will be more shockers like him who become NFL Draft household names by next April.

Every year, a whole slew of guys we all think will be certain first round picks turn into late round fliers – and vice versa – so the idea here is to create a starting point that gets it somewhat close to the pin.

Who has the best combinations of talent, NFL size, NFL tools, and NFL upside to look ahead to 2022 – all while still figuring out the 2021 NFL Draft?

Here’s the first look at the 2022 NFL Draft with ten of the most promising prospects at every position among those who will be eligible – not yet, DJ Uiagalelei fans.

If you don’t see your guy here – or don’t like where he’s ranked – relax. We’ll go in-depth with the more detailed lists just before the season, and obviously this will change up wildly several times before the 2022 NFL Draft gets going in Las Vegas.
