Laying out the Lions mathematical possibility of still making the postseason

Believe it or not, there is one infinitely remote path for 0-10-1 Detroit to still make the playoffs in the NFC

Believe it or not, the Detroit Lions are still mathematically capable of making the postseason. Even at 0-10-1 entering Week 13, there is still a possibility for the Lions to shock the world and taste the postseason.

It’s not going to happen, of course. But CBS Sports laid out the exact scenario — there is only one — where the Lions could qualify for the playoffs. It requires 46 games over the final six weeks to play out in exactly the right way for Detroit.

After not winning in the first 12 weeks, expecting the Lions to hold up their own end of the bargain and win the final six contests on the schedule is sheer lunacy. Having the 40 other games play out in the exact manner needed is just as wildly improbable. But the math does check out, technically. Expect that path to come to an end in the early slate of games on Sunday.
