No Jaguars players selected to the Pro Bowl for second consecutive season

Though players like punter Logan Cooke may have had a chance, Jacksonville is still looking for its first Pro Bowler since 2019.

For the second-straight season, no Jacksonville Jaguars players were selected to the Pro Bowl. This shouldn’t come as a major surprise, as the team has struggled all season and sits at 2-12. With just a 3-27 record over the last two seasons and one of the youngest rosters in football, there haven’t been a lot of clear standouts.

The best player on the team is arguably running back James Robinson, who was named to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie team last year after breaking the NFL record for scrimmage yards from an undrafted rookie. However, injuries and limited carries have held him in check this season, though he has one more touchdown already than he did last year with eight, and his average (4.7) is slightly improved from last season.

Perhaps the Jacksonville player with the best argument was punter Logan Cooke, whose average of 47.1 on 63 punts was above average but not elite. However, 28 of those punts were downed inside the 20, which is the third-best mark in the NFL. Las Vegas punter A.J. Cole was the AFC’s Pro Bowl selection instead.

The last time the Jags had a player make the Pro Bowl was 2019, when it got DJ Chark, Calais Campbell, and Josh Allen in. Chark, who is a pending free agent in 2022, and Allen remain on the team. However, Chark’s season ended Week 4 against Cincinnati after he sustained a broken ankle early in the game.

As for Allen, he had a bit of a sophomore slump in 2020, but he’s been better this season, totaling a career-high 60 tackles already with 5.5 sacks. However, he’s not on pace to match his 10.5 sack total from his rookie season.

This is a Jags team that still needs to build more talent, and until that happens, this squad likely won’t have many players earning postseason honors.

Trevon Diggs top 5, Cowboys lead all NFL teams in Pro Bowl votes

The Cowboys are owning the fan vote, see which players are doing well at their respective positions in the early portion of the process. | From @KDDrummondNFL

The Dallas Cowboys have always fared well in popularity contests. Anyone that looks at annual top-rated television programs will undoubtedly find several Cowboys games at the top of the list. When the team is doing well, that popularity is often measured in the fan vote portion of the Pro Bowl process and 2021 is no exception.

With Dallas sporting a comfortable lead in the NFC East a little past the halfway point with a 7-3 record, the standout individual performances have motivated Cowboys Nation to flood the voting process. As a result, several Cowboys are in in good position in the early going for one-third of the overall selection process. Cornerback Trevon Diggsis doing the best among them in fifth place overall while running away with the interception lead with eight in 10 games including two Pick 6s.

Diggs, Ezekiel Elliott, Zack Martin and Tyler Biadasz are all position leaders in the NFC battle. In fact Diggs and his teammates are doing so well, the Cowboys lead all NFL teams in votes.

Micah Parsons is currently third among inside linebackers.

Roster selections are determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each group’s vote counts one-third toward determining the 88 All-Star players. NFL players and coaches will cast their votes on Friday, December 17.

Pro Bowl rosters will be announced on Monday, December 20 live on NFL Network’s Pro Bowl special “NFL Total Access: Pro Bowl Players Revealed” at 7:00 PM ET and integrated in ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown and ESPN/ABC’s Monday Night Football.

The 2022 Pro Bowl presented by Verizon will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 6, at 3:00 PM ET.

Eagles DE Brandon Graham hopes to play another four-years in the NFL

Brandon Graham secured his first Pro Bowl nod on Tuesday and during a zoom meeting with the media, he admitted that he wants to play 15-years in the NFL

Brandon Graham just secured his first Pro Bowl nod on Tuesday and the Eagles defensive end has no plans on slowing down.

During a Wednesday zoom meeting with the media, the Eagles captain and esteemed veteran admitted that he wants to play 15-seasons in the NFL.

Graham is currently in the midst of his 11th NFL season and it’s been one of his most efficient seasons as a pro.

Graham has logged seven sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 14 QB hits this season, as Jim Schwartz has done a great job of pacing the veteran’s snaps on gameday and utilizing the powerful veteran when he’s needed the most.

As far as his fit with the Eagles going forward, Graham signed a three-year, $40 million deal to return to Philadelphia, with $27 million in guarantees over the first two-years per Over The Cap.

The guarantees consisted of a $12.5 million signing bonus, a $3.5 million option bonus, and Graham’s 2019 and 2020 base salaries.

The Eagles have looming salary cap decisions to make and with Graham’s guaranteed money all paid out, Howie Roseman could ask the veteran to take a pay-cut, as his base salary would be $13 million, with an almost $18 million cap hit.

Working in Graham’s favor is the fact that he didn’t become a full-time starter until 2015, only appearing in 16 games his first two seasons, while also not playing more than 43.3 percent snaps in a season over the next three seasons.

Graham’s strip-sack of Tom Brady late in the fourth quarter of the Eagles’ 41-33 victory will go down as one of the biggest plays in Philadelphia sports history and that might’ve earned the former Michigan star the chance to retire as an Eagle.

Four former Ohio State players make Pro Bowl rosters

Rosters for the 2020-2021 Pro-Bowl were announced Monday, and four former Ohio State players have been recognized.

The NFL Pro Bowl rosters were announced Monday and there’s a decent Ohio State flavor to it. In all, four former Buckeyes made it as All-Pro. It probably could have been more, but with Nick Bosa and Michael Thomas dealing with injuries, that takes two potential players out of the mix.

Still, though, we can celebrate the four former OSU players that did get the nod and look forward to many more in years to come. Included in the four are three defensive lineman and a defensive back. There are veterans, a rookie, and multiple-year Pro-Bowlers included among the group that will miss out on playing the game this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Simply being named to the Pro-Bowl is recognition enough for many though. You can also be on the lookout for these rosters coming to the virtual Pro Bowl on Madden NFL 21.

So, what four Buckeyes made the cut? We are glad you asked.

T.J. Hockenson clarifies his 2019 stint on I.R. was due to a broken leg, torn ligaments in ankle

Today, T.J. Hockenson revealed that his time on I.R. in 2019 was not only due to torn ligaments in his ankle, but he also suffered a broken leg.

On Thanksgiving 2019, Detroit Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson went down with a gruesome ankle injury (warning: graphic), eventually landing on injured reserve.

Today, in a virtual meeting with the Lions media, Hockenson revealed that he not only tore the ligaments in his ankle, but he also suffered a broken leg.

“Obviously, the beginning of last offseason was tough,” Hockenson said. “Breaking my leg and then tearing a few ligaments in my ankle, it was definitely a tough situation.”

This is new information that was not disclosed at the time and it makes his timeline for rehab, recovery, and rise to the Pro Bowl this season all the more impressive.

Hockenson made a point to recognize the physical therapists that have helped him during his recovery period, as well as crediting teammates for helping him keep stay mentally prepared to return to football.

“There were a lot of guys in the locker room that really just laid it out there,” Hockenson said. “‘As long as you work hard, and as long as you do what your trainers tell you, and what everyone is telling you, then you’ll be able to come back’, and that really meant a lot (to me). A lot of guys had my back throughout the offseason, texting me, just trying to make sure that everything was going well… There’s not a lot of better guys, I could ask for in that locker room.”

The future is bright for Hockenson, and if he was able to elevate his game to a Pro Bowl level with virtually no offseason while also recovering from this type of injury, the sky is the limit for where his career can go.

Were any Falcons snubbed from the 2021 Pro Bowl selection?

The Pro Bowl voting was finalized Monday evening and two Falcons players made the cut.

Voting for the 2021 NFL Pro Bowl was finalized on Monday evening and two Falcons players made the cut. Kicker Younghoe Koo was selected to his first career Pro Bowl and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett will be making his second consecutive appearance.

While both Koo and Jarrett rightfully deserved their places on the roster, did any Falcons players get snubbed?

The obvious choice that comes to mind is WR Calvin Ridley and when you look at his stats, he certainly does have a compelling argument. Despite ranking No. 11 in the NFC in total receptions, Ridley is third in the conference in receiving yards this season. Not to mention, Ridley is tied for second in the league in catches of 20 yards or more.

However, you also have to look at the four receivers selected over Ridley to understand why he was snubbed. Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, DK Metcalf and Justin Jefferson were voted into the Pro Bowl over the former Alabama star.

There is no denying that Metcalf, Adams and Hopkins should be placed ahead of Ridley. You could certainly make a case for Ridley over Jefferson, who’s having a great year but is a rookie.

Ridley has a higher yardage total, more receptions and above Jefferson in almost every major receiving statistic. Jefferson has eclipsed 100 yards six times, while Ridley has seven.

So if Jefferson doesn’t have better numbers, then why was he selected over Ridley?

It’s as simple as fanfare surrounding an up-and-coming star receiver, coupled with the fact that the Falcons’ offense has been an embarrassment. Ridley is just a casualty of the team’s dysfunction. In addition, Jefferson did break the Vikings single-season reception record that was previously held by Randy Moss.

So on paper, Ridley did put up better numbers. However, the difference in production between the two receivers isn’t big enough to cover the media attention that Jefferson has gotten — and deservedly so.

Pair of Chargers named to 2021 Pro Bowl roster

A player from each side of the ball was named to the 2021 Pro Bowl.

The votes are in and there are two players from the Los Angeles Chargers named to the 2021 Pro Bowl roster.

While the actual game will not be held due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, wide receiver Keenan Allen and edge defender Joey Bosa have been acknowledged for their play this season.

A total of 88 players were named to the AFC and NFC Pro Bowl teams, with rosters determined by the consensus of votes of fans, players and coaches.

This marks Allen’s fourth Pro Bowl appearance. The 28-year old is on his way to setting a career-high in receptions and touchdowns, as he already has 100 catches and eight scores.

Meanwhile, this will be the third time that Bosa has earned this honor. Despite being banged up for the majority of the season, Bosa still has 27 quarterback hits, 15 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. He is 2.5 away from reaching the 50-sack mark.

T.J. Hockenson, Frank Ragnow, and Jack Fox have made the 2021 Pro Bowl

Three Detroit Lions players have been named to the 2021 Pro Bowl: Tight end T.J. Hockenson, center Frank Ragnow, and punter Jack Fox.

Three Detroit Lions players have been named to the 2021 Pro Bowl: Tight end T.J. Hockenson, center Frank Ragnow, and punter Jack Fox. This is the first time in eight years the Lions have had more than two players in the Pro Bowl and all three are first-time honorees.

Hockenson led the NFC tight end group from the very beginning of the voting process, which shouldn’t be overly surprising considering the statistical season he is having. Over 14 games, he has 60 receptions for 675 yards, and six touchdowns on the year, tops among NFC tight ends, and third overall in the NFL at the position.

Hockenson, just in his second NFL season, is listed as the NFC starter, while the New York Giants Evan Engram is listed as the NFC’s reserve.

According to the Lions PR department, Hockenson is the fifth tight end to be nominated to the Pro Bowl in team history, with the others being: David Sloan (1999), David Hill (1978-79), Charlie Sanders (1968-71, 1974-76), and Jim Gibbons (1960-61, 1964)

Ragnow has started all three years in the NFL and is in his second year at center for the Lions. Per Pro Football Focus, Ragnow is the second-highest graded center in the NFL, behind the Packers Corey Linsley, and on the 2021 Pro Bowl team, Ragnow is the NFC’s reserve at center, behind the Eagles Jason Kelce.

According to the Lions PR department, Ragnow is the fourth center to be nominated to the Pro Bowl in team history, with the others being: Kevin Glover (1995-97), Ed Flanagan (1969-71, 1973), and LaVern Torgeson (1954).

Fox has been PFF’s highest-graded punter since the beginning of the season, while his stats have come down to earth a bit in the second half of the season, he is currently second in net punting average (45.3 yards), third in overall average punting distance (49.3 yards), third in hang time (4.57 seconds), and fourth in punts landing inside the 20-yards line (30).

According to the Lions PR department, Fox is the third punter to be nominated to the Pro Bowl in team history, with the others being: Jim Arnold (1987-88) and Tom Skladany (1981).

The NFL has the entire NFC and AFC rosters on their website.
