Giants’ Janoris Jenkins apologies for offensive tweet

New York Giants CB Janoris Jenkins has apologized for making an offensive and disparaging tweet.

New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins let emotions get the better of him on Wednesday, tweeting an offensive comment to a fan who was critical of his value.

After sharing a series of statistics meant to defend his play in 2019, Jenkins took exception to a comment about the team’s record this season and how little his play has aided in a turnaround.

Head coach Pat Shurmur sounded unhappy with Jenkins’ conduct. Not only had the cornerback used a disparaging insult, but had done so while receiving treatment on his injured ankle and the team’s live practice.

“I was just made aware of [Jenkins’ tweets] as I was going through the injury report. He shouldn’t be tweeting during practice,” a frustrated Shurmur told reporters.

Jenkins later issued an apology for his remarks.

Jenkins drew similar unwanted attention last week when he questioned defensive coordinator James Bettcher’s use of him, prompting a meeting between he, Shurmur and Bettcher.

Jenkins is clearly frustrated with the losing in East Rutherford, but that has begun to boil over and cause some unnecessary problems. He likely doesn’t mean any harm, but as the saying goes, good intentions pave the way to…

With one-year and $14.75 million remaining on his contract, the Giants will need to make a decision on Jenkins this offseason. They could save more than $11 million by releasing him, absorbing $3.5 million in dead cap.

Colby Covington won’t let ‘Uncle Fester’ Dana White put belt on him at UFC 245

Colby Covington is adamant about this.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Colby Covington[/autotag] is adamant he won’t allow UFC president Dana White to place the welterweight championship belt around his waist at UFC 245.

Covington (15-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) is not the least bit concerned about whether or not he’ll dethrone champ Kamaru Usman (15-1 MMA, 10-0 UFC) in Saturday’s headliner, which takes place at T-Mobile Arena and airs on pay-per-view. “Chaos” is certain it’s going to happen.

What won’t happen after, though, he said, is White crowning him with gold. The relationship between White and Covington never has been great, but a difficult negotiation to finalize the matchup with Usman apparently fractured it even further.

For that reason, Covington said he’s paying no mind to the UFC boss.

“Everybody knows I ain’t got nothing to say to Uncle Fester,” Covington said during Wednesday’s UFC 245 athlete panel at MGM Grand Casino & Resort. “He’s not going to wrap that belt (around my waist) on Saturday night. I promise you that.”

[lawrence-related id=469415,469432]

Although White putting the belt on a title winner is longstanding tradition, Covington said it’s not something he cares about. He thinks any legitimacy to that moment was washed away after the “BMF” title fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz, when a fictional belt was placed on the winner by celebrity superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Because of that, Covington doesn’t want White in the middle of the octagon with him after his win and would prefer someone who better aligns with his character – a conservative, Donald Trump-supporting political commentator.

“It was tradition until they did the ‘Broken Mediocre Fighting’ championship last (month) in New York, and they gave away that Bernie Sanders participation trophy, and they let The Rock put it on ‘Journeyman Jorge’ (Masvidal),” Covington said. “So, I want Candice Owens to put it around my waist on Saturday night.”

Jacoby Brissett on Drew Brees: ‘He sets a great example’

Jacoby Brissett has a lot of praise for Drew Brees.

The Indianapolis Colts (6-7) have their final primetime game of the season when they take on the New Orleans Saints (10-3) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Monday Night Football.

When the two teams square off against each other, Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett will be watching closely to the quarterback on the other sideline—future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees.

When speaking to the media Wednesday, Brissett had plenty of praise for Brees.

“He just sets a great example for us. A guy, obviously that I grew up watching and then being in the league now and being able to see him on a more personal level,” Brissett said. “It’s awesome to see him play. What he does for the league, what he does for the position is unmatched. Just hopefully not this week.”

As Brissett will use this as a week to prove he has to potential to be the future of the Colts quarterback position, there is a chance he and the rest of the country could be witnessing history being made.

The current leader in passing touchdowns in NFL history is Colts legend Peyton Manning. That could all change Monday night, though, as Brees is currently just two touchdowns behind Manning for the all-time lead. And he has a chance to do it against Manning’s former team.

Regardless, Brissett’s future as the Colts quarterback has come into question. While he certainly has the intelligence and leadership qualities to succeed at the position, his inability to consistently push the ball downfield and his struggles with anticipation have led to many questions.

He’ll try to change that narrative on Monday night when he faces one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time in Brees.
