Angry Tweets: CFB fans react to Georgia’s No. 4 ranking

Angry college football fans tweet after Georgia football checked in at No. 4 in the CFP Rankings.

On Tuesday night, Georgia checked in at No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings, remaining the highest ranked one-loss team.

According to the most recent edition of the CFP rankings, Georgia’s ranked wins include:

No. 16 Notre Dame

No. 10 Florida

No. 15 Auburn

The full top-six is as follows:

1. LSU

2. Ohio State

3. Clemson

4. Georgia

5. Alabama

6. Oregon

Surprisingly, Texas A&M, which Georgia hosts this weekend, remained unranked despite checking in at No. 23 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25.

Following the release of the rankings, college football fans gave their thoughts on Twitter.

Originally, I was planning on making this an article that included happy tweets from UGA fans. Then, as I browsed Twitter all I saw was triggered fans of other schools…mostly Alabama.

Enjoy.

Texans’ Deshaun Watson won’t make the same mistake twice

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson made plenty of mistakes against the Ravens. He won’t make them again against the Indianapolis Colts.

Two days ago, Deshaun Watson made a mistake — by fumbling the ball. Then he made another — by trying to play hero ball. And another — by throwing an errant interception.

Nov. 17 was a day of mistakes for Watson and the Houston Texans. The 24-year-old quarterback turned over the ball twice, finished with the third-worst starting passer rating of his career (63.7) and felt the pain of being trounced by the Baltimore Ravens 41-7.

Watson’s mistake-laden performance painted a clear picture of misery for the Texans. However, it’s about responding from a defeat that defines a football team, not the defeat itself.

Watson is here to respond. It’s who he is. It’s what he has done since setting Georgia state records at Gainesville High. When adversity strikes, he strikes back. When that adversity is his own wrongdoing, he learns from it.

“He really has a good memory bank so he can understand what happens. He’s not a repeat error, he doesn’t make the same mistakes twice. But he still is seeing things that are new. I think he does a great job in working hard to correct things,” said Texans coach Bill O’Brien on Tuesday. “That’s what good players do, and that’s what he is.”

After he became a full-time starter at Clemson, Watson never strung together games of back-to-back passer ratings of 104 or below (the equivalent of 63.7 in NFL). In his three seasons as a Texan, he is 4-1 coming off a rating of 75 or below.

“He does a really good job of that,” said O’Brien on Watson correcting mistakes. “He takes that to heart, whether it’s mechanics or reads, something in protection that he can fix in the next week. He works very hard to correct his own mistakes.”

Dwelling is not Watson’s forte. Revenge is. What better opportunity than the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night?

Doc Rivers: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is going to be a ‘superstar’

The Clippers coach sees big things in the future for the Oklahoma City guard.

Long before Thunder fans got a glimpse of the player that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could be, Doc Rivers already knew what he had.

Gilgeous-Alexander had to wait 10 games until earning his first start during his rookie season with the Clippers. From there, he never looked back.

SGA turned in a second-team All-Rookie year, playing in all 82 games while averaging 10.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest. He set the franchise record for points by a rookie in a playoff game with 25 in a Game 4 win over the Warriors in the first round.

That’s what it was so hurt so much for Los Angeles to give him up in the trade for Paul George.

According to The Athletic, Doc Rivers and the Clippers were “heartbroken” when the Thunder asked for SGA to be included in the deal.

“It’s tough because he’s such a great kid,” Rivers said. “It’s the price of doing business in the NBA. It’s a trade you have to do, right? But, you know, as excited as I was when we knew that the whole deal was going through, when Lawrence (Frank) told me that Shai’s name was still in it, you were sad, disappointed. He’s such a good kid.

Per Jovan Buha, Rivers believes that Gilgeous-Alexander is going to be “a superstar”. Those sentiments are echoed by his former teammate, Lou Williams.

“I think Shai is gonna be a star,” Williams said. “I’m just happy for him that he’s finally striding. He’s made so many jumps just over the summer working on his game, working on his body. You can see the difference in how he’s played. He’s grown. I’m so happy for him.”

Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t have his best game in a Thunder uniform during his return to Los Angeles Monday. He scored 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting in Oklahoma City’s 90-88 loss to the Clippers.

But his start to the season has been better than most expected. He’s leading the team in scoring at 19.7 points per game while hitting 45.9% of his shots from the floor.

The Thunder believe that with time, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander can be a franchise player in the NBA.

Doc Rivers certainly thinks so.

Alabama still at No. 5 in latest College Football Playoff rankings

The Alabama Crimson Tide didn’t drop in the latest College Football Playoff rankings after a dominating Mississippi State on Saturday.

[jwplayer OoFi41Mv-er0jUifI]

Alabama is fresh off a dominate 38-7 road victory over Mississippi State, which is probably why the College Football Playoff committee left them at No. 5 in the latest rankings.

On Tuesday night, it was revealed that Alabama had not dropped despite the news that star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had been lost for the season due to a hip injury.

Here is how the rankings check out:

There had been some speculation that a team like Oregon, who has impressed over the last few weeks, could jump the Crimson Tide for that No. 5 spot, but it looks like the committee isn’t ready to count them out.

Surprisingly, the Oklahoma Sooners didn’t make a move up after making an epic 28-3 comeback against Baylor, who is now ranked No. 14 after the loss.

Auburn, who will be Alabama’s last opponent of the regular season a week from Saturday, only dropped a couple of spots to No. 15 after Georgia handed the Tigers their third loss of the season.

Things are still wide open in the race for who makes the College Football Playoff, and from the looks of things, the Crimson Tide are still in the mix.

Stay tuned for more analysis and breakdowns of the rankings from Roll Tide Wire!

Vikings offense set to get star receiver back at the right time

Adam Thielen injured his hamstring in Week 7 while scoring a touchdown against the Detroit Lions.

The bye week is here for the Minnesota Vikings, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The team has won six of their last seven games, and four of their last five without their star receiver.

Adam Thielen injured his hamstring while scoring a touchdown against the Detroit Lions in Week 7, and tried to come back too early against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9. The Vikings have played well without Thielen, but there have been moments his absence has limited the offense.

During the recording of Under Center on Monday Morning with Kirk Cousins and Mark Rosen, Cousins said the team will be getting its receiver back when the team travels to Seattle.

While Thielen has been a go-to target for Cousins, and proven that he is a top ten receiver in the NFL, other names have stepped up in his absence.

The Vikings wouldn’t be sitting at 8-3 if it wasn’t for the recent explosion of the tight end position. Both Kyle Rudolph and Irv Smith Jr. have made big play after big play. Bisi Johnson has proven he is a legitimate third wide receiver and Stefon Diggs has continued to gash defenses with his elite route running. The pass catching group has proven that they can hold their own, even without one of the leagues best over the last five weeks.

Not only did the receivers prove they have more depth than originally believed, but the running back tandem of Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison have proven that they are one of the top one-two punches in the league. The two have combined for 1, 411 yards, providing one of the most balanced attacks in the NFL.

Adding Thielen back into this mix, alongside a quarterback that has entered the MVP conversation, is a recipe for even more success for the Vikings offense. In the Mike Zimmer era, the team has prided itself of a strong defense. The defense will need to continue to improve, but it looks as if the offense is the strong suit to the 2019 Vikings.

WATCH: Nets will be without Kyrie Irving on road vs. Hornets

The Brooklyn Nets are 1-1 without Kyrie Irving, Wednesday the team will be without the point guard again when it plays the Hornets.

The Brooklyn Nets are 1-1 without Kyrie Irving, Wednesday the team will be without the point guard again when it plays the Charlotte Hornets (6-8).

Irving was initially listed as questionable ahead of the Nets (5-8) game versus the Nuggets on Nov. 15 because of right shoulder impingement. The 27-year-old played through the pain in Denver but did not take the court for the team’s next game Saturday versus the Bulls. The Nets still managed to pick up and eight-point win in Chicago without Irving, but did not fair as well versus the Pacers Monday and fell 115-86.

Spencer Dinwiddie is starting at point guard with Irving out. Dinwiddie scored 24 points in Saturday’s win on 5-for-11 shooting (0-for-4 from three). He added 28 points in Monday’s loss with 9-for-21 shooting (4-for-8 from three).

WATCH: Tyreek Hill to have MRI on right hamstring after MNF injury

Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill is set to have an MRI on his right hamstring “in the next day or so,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday.

Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill is set to have an MRI on his right hamstring “in the next day or so,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday.

Hill suffered a hamstring injury on the last play of the first drive of Kansas City’s 24-17 win against the Chargers Monday night at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

The 25-year-old left the field and was worked on by the medical staff on the sideline before heading to the locker room. Hill returned to the sideline but never re-entered the game Monday.

Hill missed four games this season (Week 2 through Week 5) with a sternum injury. He averages 16.5 yards per catch on 33 receptions for 543 yards in seven games this season. Hill has scored 5 touchdowns this year.

The Chiefs (7-4) lead the AFC West and are now in their bye week for Week 12.

WATCH: Colin Kaepernick considering holding second pro-day style workout

The Kaepernick camp is making good use of the video footage that moving the workout allowed them, as well as all media, access to. Agent Jeff Nalley says that he sent copies of the film from Kaepernick’s workout to all 32 NFL teams.

Colin Kaepernick’s gunshot NFL workout Saturday ended with the former 49ers quarterback abandoning the setup that the league arranged and held sole control over in order to provide transparency, as he and his representatives explained it.

ESPN’s Howard Bryant reports that now, Kaepernick is considering holding another similar workout during the NFL owner’s meetings in March.

All 32 owners, general managers and head coaches of NFL teams will be at the meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. in March.

When Nalley sent all of the teams’ unedited video footage from the workout Saturday in Atlanta, he also sent a note offering to have Kaepernick speak with the teams either in person or over the phone, but he is not optimistic his client will be signed.

Jarrad Davis earns PFF TOTW honors for his Week 11 performance

Detroit Lions linebacker Jarrad Davis earns Pro Football Focus’ team of the week honors for his Week 11 performance against the Dallas Cowboys.

Detroit Lions linebacker Jarrad Davis earns Pro Football Focus’ team of the week honors for his Week 11 performance against the Dallas Cowboys.

Here’s their reasoning on why Davis was deserving of this week’s recognition:

“Davis was dominant in run defense against Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys on Sunday,” Pro Football Focus said. “He recorded three defensive stops, zero missed tackles, and a 94.9 run-defense grade.”

Elliott was held to 45 yards on 16 carries, for a well below his typical average of only 2.8 yards per attempt — he is averaging 4.3 yards per carry this season and 4.6 over his career.

Davis is coming off the best two-game stretch of his career, according to PFF-Detroit, “has earned an 89.7 overall, led by a strong presence in run defense. His 94.4 run defense grade is the best in the NFL in that span”

Davis joins several other Lions who have earned a spot on PFF’s team of the week, including:

WATCH: Antonio Brown apologizes to Robert Kraft on Instagram

Antonio Brown injected himself into headlines yet again for a post that is out of character by comparison to the many rants he has gone on throughout the fall.

Antonio Brown injected himself into headlines yet again Tuesday, this time for a social media post that is out of character by comparison to the many rants he has gone on throughout the fall.

A post the free-agent wide receiver shared on his Instagram account included a picture of him in his Patriots uniform Sept. 15 and was captioned, “Mr.Kraft I apologize sincerely to you and your organization! All I wanted to be was an asset to the organization; sorry for the bad media and the drama! Thank you sincerely, AB”

Brown played in only one game this season, helping the Patriots (9-1) past the Dolphins with four receptions for 56 yards and one touchdown. He was released the following week after the NFL opened an investigation in response to accusations of violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy — specifically, Brown is accused of sexual assault, harassment, and rape.

At different points since team owner Robert Kraft and the Patriots announced that Brown would no longer be a part of their team, Brown took to social media to attack the owner for his own legal case involving his visit to a massage parlor and engagement in sex acts.

A week after the NFL sat down with Brown for the first time since opening its investigation, Brown’s tone is apologetic.
