NFL Mock Draft roundup: Texas OT Sam Cosmi could become top 10 pick

Matt Miller of Bleacher Report announced on Thursday that several NFL scouts prefer Texas OT Sam Cosmi over Oregon OT Penei Sewell.

Bleacher Report released an updated 2021 NFL Mock Draft recently.

Although the 2020 college football season is sitting in a puddle of uncertainty, there’s still going to be an NFL Draft to prepare for next April.

The most shocking difference in this particular mock draft comes at the No. 1 overall selection. Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars at the top spot, while Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is not taken until the No. 4 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers.

Texas offensive tackle Sam Cosmi landed at the No. 13 overall pick to the Denver Broncos. However, Matt Miller of Bleacher Report announced via Twitter on Thursday that several NFL scouts have Cosmi graded higher than Penei Sewell.

Sewell was taken with the No. 2 overall pick in this particular mock draft, meaning Cosmi has serious potential to end up becoming a top five draft pick if scouts value his play over that of the dominant Oregon offensive tackle.

At left tackle, Cosmi anchored an offensive line that helped produce the second-most yards of total offense in school history last season. Another impressive year under his belt would certainly be beneficial in showcasing his talent as a top overall prospect.

Cosmi has also been piling on the accolades ahead of the 2020 season. He was recently named a preseason All-American, All-Big 12 preseason team, second-team preseason All-American by Phil Steele, named a first-team All-Big 12 preseason selection by Phil Steele, and a first-team preseason all-Texas selection by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine.

Another top draft prospect that’s expected to come out of Austin is defensive back Caden Sterns. Although Bleacher Report only completed one round of projections, many expect Sterns to be selected late on day one or early on day two of the 2021 NFL Draft.
