Auburn (1-1) vs Arkansas (1-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Arkansas Will Win

So how is this happening? How did the program that was so miserable for so long pull off an upset over a Mississippi State team that throttled the LSU defense the week before? How did it hang around with Georgia for a half?

Turnovers and more turnvoers.

The offense hasn’t exactly been air-tight with five turnovers, but the two takeaways against Georgia helped and the four against Mississippi State were killers.

The Hogs have to be better than that against an Auburn offense that isn’t screwing up. If Arkansas can be at least a +2, and if QB Feleipe Franks can be as good as he was against the Bulldogs – 71% for 212 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions – this can be close. But …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Auburn Will Win

Arkansas isn’t moving the ball well enough.

The offense sputtered on third downs against Georgia and only converted on 5-of-14 chances against Mississippi State.

Auburn’s defense is having problems on third downs, and the team as a whole is settling in, but the offense isn’t going to make the big mistakes Arkansas needs. Defensively, the front needs to get past a rough day against Georgia, but Arkansas isn’t running for over 200 yards on this group.

At some point Anthony Schwartz is going to break out – the speedy receiver is only averaging 8.8 yards per grab – and Seth Williams is about to bounce back after being held to just 34 yards by Georgia.

The Auburn passing game will work again.

College Football Expert Picks, Predictions: Week 6

What’s Going To Happen

It’s one of the more fascinating games of the early SEC season. Is Arkansas for real? Can Auburn show that last week was just a bad day against an elite Georgia team?

Tiger QB Bo Nix might not be accurate enough, and he’s not getting enough help from the running game, but the offense will be efficient and the defense will keep finally start to come up with third down stops and get off the field.

Alabama (2-0) vs Ole Miss (1-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Alabama Will Win

He’s not in any sort of Heisman discussion quite yet, and he’s certainly not getting the attention of Mississippi State’s KJ Costello or Florida’s Kyle Trask in the SEC, but Mac Jones has been brilliant.

He’s only leading the nation in passing efficiency.

It helps to have a ridiculous receiving corps to work with, he’s been the one who’s making the whole O go by hitting 75% of his passes for 684 yards and six touchdowns with just the one pick last week against Texas A&M.

Ole Miss is dead last in the SEC in total defense, giving up 446 yards through the air to Florida and 408 rushing yards to Kentucky. Bama can move the ball however it wants to. However …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Ole Miss Will Win

The Crimson Tide secondary has been shaky. To be fair, the yards and numbers have come after the outcomes were well in hand, but this is Alabama – you play a full four quarters, or The Process isn’t working.

Missouri was done and almost buried, but it threw enough late to at least make the final score a cosmetically-better 38-19. It was the same thing with Texas A&M’s Kellen Mond, who threw for 335 yards and three touchdowns, but Bama had it won.

Welcome to Matt Corral, who’s third in the nation in passing efficiency.

He might have to keep throwing because of a defense that’s letting offenses roll at will, but he’s hitting 77% of his passes for 715 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 12 yards per throw.

The line is giving him time, the O is working at a good pace, and the big plays down the field are coming. He’ll keep pressing for 60 minutes.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

And here we go. It’s Lane Kiffin vs. Nick Saban, but the big dog has the talent on his side of the field.

It’s not like both coaching staffs don’t go full out every week, but this one is a wee bit different. Both offenses will work, both passing games will be great, and there will be a moment when it looks like the Rebels might be able to do something special, and then the talent will take over.

LSU (1-1) vs Missouri (0-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Missouri Will Win

The Missouri offense has to start throwing, keep throwing, and hope it all works.

Connor Bazelak wasn’t able to do enough to keep up in the loss to Tennessee, but he had several nice moments on the way to 218 yards. He’s getting the nod over Shawn Robinson, and he needs the Tiger ground game to help him out. It worked better against Tennessee than it did against Alabama, but it has to be along for the ride – Bazelak has to be fantastic.

LSU might have been fine against Vanderbilt, but the offense still isn’t doing enough on third downs and it’s relying on big plays and turnover margin. Don’t give the ball away, and Mizzou has a shot. But …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why LSU Will Win

Missouri’s offense isn’t working well enough to keep up if LSU gets going early.

Myles Brennan has thrown three picks in the first two games, and he had too many misfires early against Mississippi State, but he hit the 330-yard passing mark in each game with seven touchdowns. The Mizzou secondary isn’t coming up with enough stops, and it hasn’t picked off a pass.

Missouri’s defense hasn’t come up with enough third down stops, and the pressure into the backfield isn’t leading to mistakes with just one takeaway so far. If LSU doesn’t start screwing up, it’s going to be okay.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Missouri will fight the good fight, the lines will hold up well, and the passing game will keep working, but LSU will be balanced and throughout after being explosive early. The Bayou Tigers will get up fast and coast from there.

Mississippi State (1-1) vs Kentucky (0-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Mississippi State Will Win

The passing game still works.

It might not have thrown for 623 yards like it did against LSU, but it still moved the ball against Arkansas. There weren’t as many deep plays, and KJ Costello threw three picks, but the offense can still crank up the production against a Kentucky team that’s not built for shootouts, even if it did keep up in a 42-41 loss to Ole Miss last week.

The Wildcats need to control the clock for its style and system to work, but so far, the Mike Leach Bulldogs have been fantastic at owning the tempo, holding the ball for well over 33 minutes per game.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Kentucky Will Win

The Kentucky running game destroyed Ole Miss last week.

The passing game didn’t have to do much with the ground attack cranking out big run after big run, putting up 408 yards in the wild firefight. Mississippi State’s run defense has been fantastic so far, but LSU and Arkansas didn’t commit to the ground game like UK will.

For the Wildcats, it’s all about the turnover margin.

It’s been un-UKlike to not have a takeaway in two games – the Cats are -4 in turnover margin – but that should change against a Bulldog team that likes to give the ball away with four turnovers in each of the first two games.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Kentucky is desperate.

It needs to muck it up, control the game in all ways, and own the turnover margin. However, the pass defense won’t be able to keep Costello and company in check.

He’ll throw two picks, but Auburn’s Bo Nix and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral came up with every big throw needed. UK’s pass defense has allowed quarterbacks to hit 71% of their passes for 553 yards and seven touchdowns.

It’s not hyperbole to think that Costello can get all that by himself if the O works.

Tennessee (2-0) vs Georgia (2-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Tennessee Will Win

It’s early, but Tennessee is doing some of the key basics right

It was hard for South Carolina and Missouri to pull off upsets when the Vols weren’t screwing up. Tennessee is +3 so far in turnover margin without a giveaway so far. Combine that with just nine penalties, and there shouldn’t be too many breaks for the Dawgs.

The Vols have to pound away with a running game that pushed through Missouri for 232 yards and four touchdowns, QB Jarrett Guarantano is playing well enough to keep things moving, and overall, the team is … competent.

That’s not a knock. Tennessee is starting to finally look and play like Tennessee is supposed to.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Georgia Will Win

Stetson Bennett has been terrific.

The Georgia offense has been great for the last six quarters, stepping up against Arkansas after Bennett took over, and it was balanced enough to own Auburn throughout last week in a 27-6 win.

Bennett has hit 65% of his passes for 451 yards and three scores with no picks so far, and he’s hitting enough downfield throws to open the attack up more than it did last year.

The run defense has been a rock – allowing just 2.3 yards per carry and 116 total yards with no touchdowns – and its showing as the Bulldogs are wearing down teams so far. The Georgia offense has held on to the ball for almost 35 minutes per game, and Tennessee isn’t converting on enough third downs.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Georgia will have the ball more, and it’ll show as the game goes on.

Tennessee will hang punch for punch for the first quarter, but Bennett will connect on one big play to break the game open, at least a bit. It’ll never be a comfortable lead for the Dawgs until late, but the defense will come up with enough stops to maintain control.

South Carolina (0-2) vs Vanderbilt (0-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why South Carolina Will Win

The Vanderbilt offensive line isn’t getting the job done.

The Commodores are last in the SEC in tackles for loss allowed, the rushing offense hasn’t been good enough, and there’s been too much pressure allowed on QB Ken Seals to keep things moving.

On the other side of the ball, there’s no pressure coming from the Vandy defensive front. USC QB Collin Hill has been fine so far – throwing for 502 yards and three scores – but this is the week to start pressing deep a bit more. But …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

The South Carolina offensive line isn’t getting the job done.

The Gamecocks are getting Hill hit way too often – they’re last in the SEC in sacks allowed – and there hasn’t been enough of a running game to help the cause.

South Carolina should play this at Vandy’s speed. Slow things down, ball control will be at a premium, and this shouldn’t get out of hand at any point. The offense has to avoid turnovers – South Carolina has just two takeaways so far – and take advantage of every opportunity in a low-scoring game. However …

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

South Carolina does a better job of controlling the clock than Vanderbilt does.

The Commodores have to hold the ball and keep its defense off the field, but the SEC’s worst offense will have a hard time doing that. South Carolina is third in the nation in time of possession, and it’ll show. Don’t expect anything scintillating, but it’ll be a win for a Gamecock team in desperate need of something positive.

Florida (2-0) vs Texas A&M (1-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Florida Will Win

The Texas A&M secondary hasn’t been a rock so far.

Mac Jones went full Tua with a 435-yard passing day with four scores last week in Alabama’s win over the Aggies, hitting on big play after big play. That’s one thing, but letting Vanderbilt’s Ken Seals connect on 69% of his throws – he struggled way too much against LSU the following week – is a problem.

Welcome to Kyle Trask.

He doesn’t have as many passing yards as Joe Burrow did through the first two games of 2019, but he has one more touchdown pass, completing 72% of his throws for 684 yards and ten scores with just one pick in the first two games.

Kyle Pitts has already locked up the Mackey Award as the nation’s top tight end with 12 catches for 227 yards and six touchdowns in the first two weeks. He and his quarterback are about to give the Aggies some huge problems.

However …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Texas A&M Will Win

Come on, Kellen Mond, let’s do this already.

The senior quarterback has to rise up and be special for the Aggies to be any sort of a factor in the SEC, and while he threw for 318 yards and three scores last week against Alabama, most of the production came too late.

The Florida secondary sharpened up a bit against South Carolina – there weren’t as many big plays allowed or downfield shots as Ole Miss came up with the week before – but it was still hardly the rock it’s supposed to be.

The Gator run defense hasn’t been anything special, either.

For an Aggie offense that hasn’t gotten off the ground yet, this is the week to crank up the production.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Trask and the Florida offense have been just that good. The line is giving Trask time to let the deep plays develop, and the receivers are making things happen when they get the ball on the move.

No, the defense hasn’t been good enough, but the pass rush is there to bother Mond. It’ll be a shootout early, but the Gators will be steadier later.

Kansas State (2-1) vs TCU (1-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Kansas State Will Win

Takeaways, takeaways, takeaways.

Kansas State isn’t doing its Kansas State thing so far when it comes to dominating the time of possession battle, but it’s crushing the turnover margin with seven takeaways so far – including four in the upset over Oklahoma – and a grand total of zero turnovers.

This isn’t a rock-solid defensive team, and the offense isn’t running like it should, but it’s capitalizing on just about every opportunity.

TCU in two games gave it up three times, took it away three times – highlighted by a gigantic fumble recovery against Texas last week – and it’s going to need to be air-tight in what should be a close battle.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why TCU Will Win

How healthy is Skylar Thompson?

The Kansas State quarterback was fantastic over the first two games, started off a little rocky against Texas Tech, and then he got knocked out with an arm injury. Freshman Will Howard picked up the slack to get the win, but Thompson is banged up – at best – if he tries to give it a go.

On the other side, Max Duggan has been a Big 12 star over the first two games, hitting 74% of his passes for 472 yards and three touchdowns and an interception, and he ran for 89 yards so far and two big scores against Texas.

The Kansas State struggled to contain the quarterbacks it faced so far – even when it wasn’t dealing with the Arkansas State or Texas Tech starters – but its bigger problem might be …

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Time of possession. Again, this is usually where Kansas State shines – it keeps control of the game and makes teams play its style – but TCU is fourth in the nation in possession, keeping the ball for well over 35 minutes a game.

This is a good enough Kansas State team to keep it close throughout no matter how strong the quarterback play is. The defense will come up with just enough stops – and get just enough takeaways – to keep the Horned Frogs from running away with this.

Duggan will be too good, though.
