5 facts you didn’t know about Corona’s palm tree Christmas commercial that airs every year

Feliz Navidad!

Editor’s Note: This article originally published on November 30, 2023

The general debate over when Christmas season truly begins has plenty of options. For some, it’s the day after Thanksgiving. Others say it begins earlier. For another contingent it’s the first snowfall or first day of December.

Then there are those who believe one specific commercial dictates the start of Christmas season: Corona Extra’s ‘O Tannenpalm’ ad.

You know the one, where the palm tree gets dressed up with Christmas lights while someone offscreen whistles ‘O Tannenbaum’.

The ad pops up every year without fail and without virtually any updates. It’s simple, it’s calming and it’ll play approximately 80,000 times during every sporting event from late November to New Year’s Day.

The commercial has been around so long and become such a staple that it’s worth knowing a few fun facts about it.

The Bluey balloon horrifyingly popped during inflation before the Thanksgiving Day Parade

“Bluey went Ka-Bluey.” Somebody help her!!!

While it’s always a treat to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade every year, you can always be sure that something will go wrong.

Last year, it was the Monkey D. Luffy balloon deflating in the middle of the parade, much to the chagrin of One Piece fans everywhere.

This year? Aside from the rain, the biggest left turn we’ve gotten so far has been the Bluey balloon popping before the parade. On Wednesday, the character’s balloon popped when the balloons were being inflated.

EVERY BALLOON INCLUDED: Here are all 22 of the balloons included in the parade

This could’ve ended terribly. Think about all the kids who were promised they’d see Bluey flying in the sky on Thursday. They might riot if she isn’t there!

Look at this. You can hear all the disappointment and terror in all the kid’s voices as she loses air.

“Bluey went Ka-Bluey.” Hey, mom. You’re not helping right now.

Luckily for us (and all those parents out there who may have had a Thanksgiving mutiny on their hands), parade workers got Bluey patched up and inflated before the parade.

Here’s more from NBC New York.

“Those who saw it happen described it as a loud pop, and then a gust of wind in their face. They also said parade volunteers or workers told them the balloon would be patched and ready to go for Thursday’s spectacle.”

Today she looks as good as new!

Fly, Bluey. Fly!

Dancing with the Stars crowned Joey Graziadei as its latest champion

Dancing with the Stars has crowned its latest champion.

The latest season of Dancing with the Stars has crowned a new champion.

The reality dancing competition’s 33rd season ended with The Bachelor star Joey Graziadei taking home the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy over the other four finalists.

Team USA Olympians Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik, former NFL receiver Danny Amendola and television star Chandler Kinney participated in Tuesday night’s finale but didn’t take home the top prize.

It was Graziadei who was victorious. Best known for starring on the ABC reality dating show, Graziadei will now hold one of the biggest reigning prizes in televised reality competition.

He was partnered with professional dancer Jenna Johnson during the season.

The 34th season of Dancing with the Stars, marking the show’s 20th anniversary, should air sometime in 2025.

Danny Amendola danced to ‘I’m Just Ken’ during the Dancing with the Stars finale

Danny Amendola is Kenough.

Former NFL wide receiver Danny Amendola tapped into his inner “Ken-ergy” for his Dancing with the Stars finale freestyle routine.

Amendola paid homage to Ryan Gosling’s Oscar-nominated turn as Ken in 2023’s Barbie by dancing to “I’m Just Ken.”

The whole number earned raves from the show’s judges for its entertainment value, and the costumes and production design from Amendola’s dance felt ripped straight out of Barbieland. It was pretty fantastic.

Amendola also danced along to a rendition of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s “Bye Bye Bye” opening scene earlier in the season, giving his run on the show a couple of cinematic moments for fans to remember.

SNL brings back Domingo with Charli XCX and a Chappell Roan cover

D-O-M-I-N-G-O!

Singer and actress Ariana Grande hosted Saturday Night Live just over one month ago, taking the stand up show by storm on October 12 with Stevie Nicks as her musical guest. On Saturday night, one of Grande’s most iconic and viral performances made a return, as the singing friend group once again told a story about Kelsey with hilarious lyric changes to a popular song.

In the first skit, Grande and SNL regulars Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Sherman serenade Kelsey at her wedding to an off-key version of “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter. The new lyrics tell the story of meeting mysterious Domingo (Marcello Hernandez) on the bachelorette party, much to the chagrin of the groom.

This time around, we’re at a baby shower for Kelsey (Chloe Fineman), and the singers are back again. Charli XCX replaces Grande’s character, and the quartet blesses everyone with a remix of Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!”

We just got “direct from Domingo” out of our heads. I guess “D-O-M-I-N-G-O!” will happily take it’s place.

SNL cold open features Alec Baldwin and Dana Carvey returning for Donald Trump transition sketch

The comedy show takes on Donald Trump’s cabinet selections.

Once again, the cold open for Saturday Night Live tackled politics.

This time, it parodied Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) visiting Joe Biden (Dana Carvey) as the pair prepared to turn over the presidency. In the skit, Johnson’s Trump explained some of the controversial cabinet selections he has made to this point, with Matt Gaetz and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. making guest appearances.

Sarah Sherman made her debut as Gaetz, the pick for Attorney General, while comedian and long-time SNL guest Alec Baldwin played Trump’s pick for director of the Department of Health and Human Services.

You can watch the skit here:

Dwight Howard was eliminated from the latest Dancing with the Stars after an impressive run

Dwight Howard’s time on Dancing with the Stars ended on Tuesday night.

Former NBA star Dwight Howard’s Dancing with the Stars journey came to an end on Tuesday night.

Howard and his dance partner Daniella Karagach made it to the competition’s quarterfinals, one celebrating past dance routines in the show’s history for its 500th episode, but couldn’t advance to next week’s semifinal round.

Three other athletes, former NFL wide receiver Danny Amendola and recent Team USA Olympians Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik, all advanced to the show’s semifinals.

Howard, the former Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets standout, won an NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. He most recently played for the Taoyuan Taiwan Beer Leopards from 2022-2023.
