Expert score prediction: Nebraska vs. Rutgers

What’s your prediction?

The Nebraska Cornhuskers return home following a 28-10 bounce-back win over the Purdue Boilermakers. However, the win wasn’t pretty. Penalties and missed field goals riddled the first half before the Huskers cleaned up in the second. Now, they’re facing a team that thrives on opponent’s mistakes.

Rutgers is 4-0 on the season, but several key moments in their last two wins went in their favor. In the Scarlet Knights’ win over Virginia Tech, the Hokies struggled in the first, which saw a punt return fumble that became a Rutgers touchdown.

Virginia Tech also failed a fourth-down conversion and coughed up a safety, giving Rutgers a 16-7 lead. The Scarlet Knights scored a touchdown out of halftime and almost did it again after the Hokies fumbled on the next drive. Rutgers failed on fourth and goal.

The Scarlet Knights managed to get a go-ahead field goal after Virginia Tech tied the game 23-23. But were it not for some of the Hokies’ mistakes, Rutgers would not have snatched the win.

The same occurred in last week’s bout against Washington. The Huskies only punted twice on their 11 drives but missed three field goals and failed two fourth-down conversions.

The play of the game, however, occurred when Washington allowed a blocked field goal to turn into a Rutgers touchdown due to a 12th player coming onto the field in celebration following the block. Washington also coughed up penalties that halted drives, resulting in points scored.

These scenarios are too similar to Nebraska’s win over Purdue, which the Huskers cannot allow to happen again. Nebraska continues to control its own fate each game, and the same applies here.

The offense needs to be clean and stop letting penalties halt drives. The defense can’t let Rutgers’ Athan Kaliakmanis go off in his third game against the Huskers. The same can be said about Rutgers’ Kyle Monangai, who averages 6.1 rushing yards off 97 total carries. Finally, Nebraska needs to capitalize on field goal opportunities, not allowing any blocks or misses.

If the Huskers can carry their second-half play against Purdue into this game, they’ll be fine.

Score Prediction: Nebraska 24, Rutgers 14

Ohio State basketball ends regular season on high note with win at Rutgers

What a different looking team. #GoBucks

It has been a much different Ohio State basketball team than what we saw under  former head coach Chris Holtmann. Since interim head coach Jake Diebler took over, the Buckeyes are 5-1 after yet another win on Sunday, this time on the road against a Rutgers team that is awfully hard to take down at home. The final score wasn’t even close; OSU won 73-51.

For those efforts, Ohio State has improved from 13th to no worse than 10th in the league standings. The placement isn’t anything to write home about, but it does get OSU closer to being a bubble team, which would have been unthinkable just three weeks ago.

The Buckeyes raced to a 10-1 lead, but Rutgers clawed its way back thanks to some stiff defense. It closed the gap to two, and OSU headed to the locker room up 30-28.

The second half was a different story, however. Defensively, OSU’s looked like the better team, which led to some runouts and good possessions on the offensive end. The lead gradually grew and made the outcome no longer in doubt.

Roddy Gayle Jr. led Ohio State with 14 points, but three others also finished in double figures: Thornton (11), Jamison Battle (10) and Felix Okpara (10).

The win improves Ohio State’s overall record to 19-12 and its Big Ten mark to 9-11. Next up is the Big Ten Tournament, and with a little bit of a run there, who knows …

The Huskers remained home following their win against Purdue to face Rutgers on Saturday afternoon. Though Nebraska put up a fight with the Scarlet Knights, Rutgers squeaked out the win.

The Scarlet Knights won the battle through their shooting efficiency, going 28-of-47 while Nebraska completed 23-of-68. Week 10 LBM Coaches Poll released. Where did Ohio State land after win on the road at Rutgers?

The updated US LBM Coaches poll has been released after Week 10. Do you agree with where Ohio State is? #GoBucks

It’s that time of the week again when the major polls update their rankings. And while we wait on what the College Football Playoff rankings will be on Tuesday, every Sunday we get an update from the US LBM Coaches poll.

Ohio State didn’t go to Piscataway and perform a surgical strike on the college football world, but it did win by pulling away in the second half to keep its record unblemished and stay on track for some pretty special things. The coaches have ranked the Buckeyes highly all season, but the lack of otherworldly offensive production like we’ve seen in years past haven’t exactly impressed them all.

So what about this week? Did Ohio State move up any? The usual suspects are all there: Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Penn State, Florida State and more. But what order do they fall in after some pretty close games and Oklahoma once again falling victim to an upset?

Here’s a look at the updated US LBM Coaches poll after Week 10 action. We count down the top 10 teams then share the complete poll.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day discusses win over Rutgers

Watch and listen to what Ohio State head coach Ryan Day had to say after the win on the road vs. Rutgers. #GoBucks

Ohio State used a second-half surge to beat Rutgers on the road and remain unbeaten at 9-0 after struggling on offense in the first half. It was another game in which the offense took time to figure things out and had to rely on the defense to keep things in check.

Head coach Ryan Day was happy with the win and didn’t feel the need to apologize for winning a very physical game on the road in the Big Ten when he met with the media for his postgame press conference after the contest.

Thanks to the WBNS 10TV YouTube channel, we’re bringing Day’s entire postgame comments to you to get a little perspective from the guy wearing the headset. Day discussed the defense’s performance, touched on some injuries, gave credit to Rutgers and more.

Ohio State will begin preparations for hosting Michigan State this Saturday and we’ll have a wealth of coverage leading up to the game. Check back early and often to get more Buckeye news, opinion and analysis throughout the week.

WATCH: What Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano said about Ohio State postgame

What did Greg Schiano think of Ohio State after losing to the Buckeyes? Hear and watch what he said. #GoBucks

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights looked awfully intent on upsetting the Ohio State football team through about a half of football. In fact, the Buckeyes headed to the locker room down after 30 minutes of play and had to find a way to play better in the second half.

There’s no doubt the Rutgers program is getting better and should continue to do so under head coach Greg Schiano’s second stint in Piscataway. Somewhere down the line, the Scarlet Knights will break through against Ohio State, but it wasn’t meant to be on Saturday in a 35-16 OSU victory.

Schiano met with the media for his postgame press conference after the loss to the Buckeyes, and we’ve got the entire 10 minutes or so thanks to the Rutgers football YouTube channel in case you missed any of what he said.

Schiano was very complimentary of Ohio State. He talked about the talent of the OSU defense, how good the duo of Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka are, why the Buckeyes are ranked No. 1, and more.

Ohio State turns the page to next week and will begin preparations to host Michigan State next Saturday. Stay with us for a week of coverage leading up to the game.

Best photos of Ohio State football’s win over Rutgers

Check out some of the best photos of Ohio State’s win over Rutgers Saturday afternoon. #GoBucks

It seems like we keep pointing to an ugly win for Ohio State after a first half in which the offense can’t quite find a groove, but I guess that’s just the way this team is this year. The Buckeyes used a second half surge to get by Rutgers, 35-16, in Piscataway, New Jersey.

The victory keeps Ohio State undefeated at 9-0 and on track for a chance at playing for some astronomical goals. There’s still a couple of games to go before what could be a massive clash with Michigan, but we’re here to appreciate what the Buckeyes accomplished on the road.

In fact, we like to share some of the best photos of all the action on the gridiron for Ohio State each week and it’s time for us to do that again after this Big Ten matchup.

Here are some high-resolution photos of Ohio State’s win over Rutgers on Saturday.

Ohio State vs. Rutgers: Behind enemy lines with Rutgers Wire’s Kristian Dyer

How are Rutgers fans and media feeling about the matchup with Ohio State? We talked to Kristian Dyer from our sister site, Rutgers Wire. #GoBucks

It’s another game week for the Ohio State football team, and this time it’s against a Rutgers team that has been much improved at 6-2. The Scarlet Knights have one of the country’s best defenses and a mobile quarterback that can extend plays and make the Buckeye defense have to be a disciplined, assignment-sound bunch.

It’s always nice to get a perspective of this year’s Ohio State team and what to expect from the opposite sideline, and we are lucky to have a sister site that covers the Scarlet Knights, Rutgers Wire.

We went “Behind enemy lines” with publisher/editor Kristian Dyer to ask him about how Rutgers fans view this game, the Ohio State program, the job Greg Schiano is doing, and more.

Here’s the complete conversation we had with Dyer including his very own prediction on what he thinks will happen Saturday.
