The Huskers remained home following their win against Purdue to face Rutgers on Saturday afternoon. Though Nebraska put up a fight with the Scarlet Knights, Rutgers squeaked out the win.

The Scarlet Knights won the battle through their shooting efficiency, going 28-of-47 while Nebraska completed 23-of-68. The Huskers remained in the battle through trips to the free-throw line (17) and points off turnovers (25).  But Rutgers’ third-quarter surge put Nebraska down 60-49, forcing the Huskers to climb out of the hole in the fourth.

Alexis Markowski and Jaz Shelley finished the game as Nebraska’s top scorers. The duo dropped double-digit points for the Huskers, with Markowski scoring 13 and Shelley landing 11.

Freshmen Jessica Petrie and Logan Nissley each put together a solid game for Nebraska, with Petrie scoring nine points and Nissley dropping eight.

Kendall Moriarty also scored eight points, going 2-of-2 in total shooting, landing both of her shots from beyond the arc while also being 2-of-2 from the free throw line.

The Huskers now fall to 14-8 on the season and 6-5 in conference play. Nebraska will travel to Michigan for its next game Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and can be viewed on B1G+.

Women’s basketball holds off Michigan State to win 80-74

The Huskers entered their first Big Ten game of the season Saturday afternoon following a historic win over UNC Wilmington earlier this week.

The Huskers entered their first Big Ten game of the season Saturday afternoon following a historic win over UNC Wilmington earlier this week. Nebraska clashed with Michigan State, who stood with a record of 7-1. The Spartans battled the Huskers till the very end, but Nebraska built a strong enough lead to pull away with an 80-74 win.

Though Michigan State finished with more shots, the Huskers finished with more baskets, including from three-point range. Nebraska went 29-of-61 in total shooting and 10-of-23 from beyond the arc. The Spartans only went 27-of-67 in total shots and landed just 4-of-27 in three-point shooting.

The Huskers saw four players finish with double-digit points. Alexis Markowski led Nebraska with her sixth double-double of the season, dropping 13 points and a season-high 17 rebounds. Freshman Jessica Petrie finished behind Markowski with 11 points for her second-straight double-digit game. Petrie scored 11 points after going five-of-seven in shooting.

Jaz Shelley also delivered 11 points in the win, accompanied by nine assists and seven rebounds, nearly earning herself another triple-double. Freshman Natalie Potts rounded out the front four for Nebraska, finishing with 10 points.

The Huskers move to 8-2 on the season and will return home to face off against Southern on Dec. 17. Tipoff is set for noon and can be viewed on B1G+ and Nebraska Public Media.
