Georgia Bulldogs football player card: DB Lewis Cine

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Lewis Cine is expected to start at safety opposite Richard LeCounte in 2020.

Lewis Cine, defensive back (#16):

Class: Sophomore

Height: 6-1

Weight: 185 pounds

Hometown: Cedar Hill, Texas

High School: Trinity Christian High School

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back Lewis Cine had the difficult task of guarding LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the SEC Championship Game. Cine flashed his versatility in containing the Kansas City Chiefs first round pick.

Now, Cine is anticipated to start at safety opposite Richard LeCounte. Cine has the versatility to play nickel defensive back as well, but he’s needed to replace JR Reed at starting safety.

Cine finished last season with 20 tackles. he played in every game and started the final two contests. He recorded six tackles in both of his starts (against LSU and Baylor). Cine, who enrolled early, broke out immediately in the G-Day game last season. His freshman season was excellent, but Dawg fans can expect more in 2020.

UGA football player card: LB Trezmen Marshall

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Trezmen Marshall dominated in high school before coming to Athens. He’ll fight for playing time in 2020.

Trezmen Marshall, Linebacker (#15):

Class: Sophomore

Height: 6-1

Weight: 230 pounds

Hometown: Homerville, Georgia

High School: Clinch County High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Trezmen Marshall played in every game last season primarily as a special teams player. Marshall recorded five tackles including a key tackle on the kickoff against Texas A&M.

Marshall came to Athens as a four-star recruit, who was widely considered a top-100 prospect. He enrolled early at the University of Georgia and participated in 2019 spring practice.

Before coming to the UGA, Marshall dominated public school Class-A football en route to winning three state titles in four seasons. He played inside linebacker, quarterback/running back, defensive end, and fullback.

Marshall is clearly the best player on the field on every play in high school. Now, he’s fighting for playing time along Georgia’s elite defense. Dan Lanning plays a lot of guys, so don’t be surprised if Marshall works his way into the line-up next season.

UGA football player card: DB DJ Daniel

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back DJ Daniel transferred to Athens from Georgia Military College.

DJ Daniel (#14):

Class: Senior

Height: 6-1

Weight: 185 pounds

Hometown: Griffin, Georgia

High School: Spalding High School

Georgia Bulldogs defensive back DJ Daniel transferred to Athens from Georgia Military College. He was a four-star JUCO prospect and has lived up to the hype.

Daniel played in 13 out of 14 games last season and started the final eleven contests. He took over for former five-star recruit and uber-talented CB Tyson Campbell, who battled a nagging turf toe injury last season. The two will compete once again in the fall.

Daniel started opposite number one cornerback Eric Stokes. He was often picked on, but lived up to the challenge.

Daniel totaled over forty tackles last season and deflected eight passes. He helped break up a last minute pass versus Notre Dame. He was up for the challenge on a key play against Auburn. The same type of play burned stud LSU cornerback Derek Stingley.

UGA football player card: WR Trey Blount

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Trey Blount played in just four games last season while fighting through injuries and redshirted.

Trey Blount, Wide Receiver (#14):

Class: Junior

Height: 6-2

Weight: 200 pounds

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

High School: Pace Academy

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Trey Blount played in just four games last season and redshirted. Blount came to the University of Georgia as a four-star recruit.

Blount is a sound, fundamental blocker who knows his assignments. He fought through injuries in 2019. Before last season, Blount played in 14 games in both 2017 and 2018. He has four receptions for 52 yards in his career.

In 2020, Blount will compete for the receiver playing time in the position opposite George Pickens. Dominick Blaylock is recovering from a torn ACL. Georgia secured a top recruiting class in 2020 and has a wealth of talent at the wide receiver position. It will be position group competition to watch next season.

Georgia Bulldogs player card: OLB Azeez Ojulari

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Azeez Ojulari had the most sacks on the team in 2019. The Marietta High School product was a 4-star recruit.

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker/defensive end Azeez Ojulari came to Athens as a four-star recruit. He redshirted during his freshman year in 2018, where he played in three games. Azeez made an impact the Sugar Bowl against Texas where he previewed his talent for the years to come.

Ojulari’s freshman season was impressive. He recorded the most sacks (5.5) and pressures (34) on the best scoring and rushing defense in the country. Kirby Smart has shown immense respect for the Marietta High School product. He became Kirby’s first freshman to captain a game against Tennessee. Ojulari proved worthy of captaincy recording ten pressures against the Volunteers.

Now, Ojulari is a stud returning to arguably the best defense in the country in 2020. He is one of the best pass rushers returning in the SEC. He’s only cracked the surface of his potential and could declare for the NFL after this season. Enjoy Ojulari while he lasts Dawg fans!

His brother, BJ Ojulari, will be a true freshman outside linebacker on the LSU Tigers this season. BJ was also a four-star recruit out of Marietta.

UGA football player card: QB Stetson Bennett

Georgia Bulldogs junior quarterback Stetson Bennett transferred to UGA from Jones County Junior College.

Stetson Bennett, Quarterback (#13):

Class: Junior

Height: 5-11

Weight: 190 pounds

Hometown: Blackshear, Georgia

High School: Pierce County High School

Georgia Bulldogs junior quarterback Stetson Bennett was Georgia’s primary back-up behind current Buffalo Bills QB Jake Fromm in 2019. Bennett played in five games last season.

He threw for 260 yards completing 20/27 of his passing attempts. Bennett also passed for a pair of touchdowns and one interception. He rushed for twelve yards and scored one rushing touchdown.

Bennett is projected to be the back-up behind Jamie Newman in 2020 and will compete with D’Wan Mathis, and Carson Beck. Bennett has the most experience in UGA’s system, but lacks the physical talent that Mathis, Beck, and Newman all have.

Bennett came to Athens as a lightly recruited three-star prospect. He redshirted in 2017, while playing scout team quarterback. He then transferred to Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi. He helped Jones County win their conference, scoring 20 total TDs and accumulating almost 2,000 total yards in the process.

Following his junior college season, Bennett transferred back to the University of Georgia and enrolled for the spring semester of 2019.

UGA football player card: LB Rian Davis

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Rian Davis redshirted during his freshman year. He tore his ACL as a high school senior, but looks 100% now.

Class: Redshirt freshman

Height: 6-2

Weight: 230 pounds

Hometown: Apopka, Florida

High School: Wekiva High School

Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Rian Davis redshirted during his freshman year in 2019. He appeared in the home defeat against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Davis came to Athens as a four-star recruit, who was a top-100 prospect. He tore his ACL as a senior in high school (four games in). Davis, an Orlando-area recruit, enrolled early at the University of Georgia and was healthy enough to participate in spring practice.

Davis should be much more like himself this season. Most severe lower body injuries take two years to fully recover back to 100%. Davis will be a depth piece on Dan Lanning’s defense, which plays a high number of defenders every season. Don’t be shocked if Davis, now healthy, can crack the rotation for consistent playing time.

Recruiting spotlight: 5-star UGA QB commit Brock Vandagriff

Get to know Georgia football 2021 #2 ranked dual-threat QB commit Brock Vandagriff.

5-star dual-threat 2021 quarterback prospect Brock Vandagriff gave his commitment to the G this past January.

Vandagriff, the 6-3, 205 pound rising high school senior, currently attends the Prince Avenue Christian School, in his hometown of Bogart, GA.  He made the decision to stay close to home and play for Kirby Smart and the Dawgs.

Vandagriff is the #2 dual-threat quarterback in the 2021 class and already has a perfect college frame. He ranks as the No. 12 player overall.

His poise in the pocket is very nice, showing confident throws and strong runs in his high school film.

Vandagriff was Georgia’s third commitment for the 2021 class, a class that has been slightly delayed due to coronavirus, but we know Kirby’s recruitment never stops.  Georgia’s 2021 class currently has seven commits.

He had offers from Oklahoma, Auburn and Alabama but turned those down for UGA.

“I trust the coaches there, and I trust them in the direction they are going and I want to be able to compete for national championships,” Vandagriff told DawgNation on his decision to sign with the Bulldogs.

According to 247Sports, Vandagriff clocked in at 4.69 seconds on a 40-yard dash, and also recorded a 36.9-inch vertical jump.  Those are crazy numbers for anyone, not just a 6-3 quarterback.

Vandagriff has one more year of high school ball until he gets to work in Athens to compete for the starting QB job.

UGA football player card: WR Tommy Bush

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Tommy Bush came to Athens as a four-star recruit., but he only played in one game last season.

Class: Redshirt Sophomore

Height: 6-5

Weight: 195 pounds

Hometown: Schertz, Texas

High School: Samuel Clemens High School

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Tommy Bush redshirted as a freshman in 2018, when he played in two games: against Austin Peay and UMass. Bush only played one game in 2019. He caught one pass for one yard against Georgia Tech.

At 6-5, Bush has excellent size and the potential to replace Lawrence Cager as a red zone target. Bush came to Athens as a talented four-star wide receiver.

In 2020, Bush will compete for the receiver playing time in the position opposite George Pickens. Dominick Blaylock is recovering from a torn ACL. Georgia secured an elite recruiting class in 2020 and has plenty of talent at the wide receiver position. It will be an interesting position battle to see unfold.

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker Jermaine Johnson appeared on the Netflix documentary “Last Chance U” before transferring to UGA.

Height: 6-5

Weight: 240 pounds

Hometown: Eden Prairie, Minnesota

High School: Eden Prairie High School

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker/defensive end Jermaine Johnson transferred to Athens from Independence Community College. He was coached by Jason Brown and appeared on the Netflix documentary “Last Chance U” in season three.

Johnson came to UGA as a four-star recruit. He racked up 20 tackles and 2.5 sacks last season. He’ll be a factor once again in 2020. Look for him to top his 12 total pressures from last season. His biggest plays of the season came when he pressured Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book on the final play and when he forced a fumble against the Auburn Tigers.

Johnson played in all 14 games last season. He helped Georgia have the best  scoring defense and the nation’s top run defense in 2019. Kirby Smart, Dan Lanning and the Bulldog defense should be elite once again in 2020.
