Pictures of Ohio State football’s statement win over Penn State

Some photos to remember Ohio State’s win over Penn State Saturday. #GoBucks

Turns out, this Ohio State team might be better than we gave it credit for. After watching the Nittany Lions dismantle pretty much everyone they played, including a curb-stomp of Iowa, many thought this could be the year Penn State slays the Buckeyes at home.

It wasn’t meant to be and it had a lot to do with the OSU defense outshining a Nittany Lion defense many thought was the best unit in this game.

It was a close contest again, but the Buckeye defense dictated things more often than not and allowed the offense to do just enough behind the chemistry of Kyle McCord and Marvin Harrison Jr. in what ended up being a 20-12 victory for the good guys.

After every game, we like to share some of the best high-resolution pictures our USA TODAY SMG team snapped on site, and those colors going against each other on the banks of the Olentangy made for some pretty good eye candy.

Here are some stunning photos to re-live Ohio State’s victory over Penn State Saturday.

Defense, Marvin Harrison Jr. lead Ohio State to 20-12 victory over Penn State

Ohio State came away with a massive 20-12 victory over Penn State in one of the biggest games of the season to date. Here’s a recap.

In one of the biggest games of the season to date Ohio State came away with a 20-12 win over Penn State for its seventh straight victory over the Nittany Lions, and move to 7-0 on the season.

The Ohio State defense has been one of the best in the country this season and it certainly lived up to that billing with a dominant performance on Saturday.

Penn State came into the matchup averaging 40.6 points per game and were shut down. The Nittany Lions didn’t find the end zone until late in the fourth quarter and went 1-of-16 on third downs for the game.

Offensively, the Buckeyes rode arguably college football’s best player with Marvin Harrison Jr. delivering time and time again in critical situations — finishing the game with 11 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown.

Buckeye nation should be thrilled about this victory as with a seventh straight win over Penn State to the Buckeyes, add a second top 10 victory to their resume in the season so far.

Next week the undefeated Buckeyes will go on the road to take on the Wisconsin Badgers in a Saturday night game on NBC. The march continues.

Five things we think we learned from Ohio State’s win over Penn State

Here are some things we took from Ohio State’s statement win against Penn State. #GoBucks

Well that was a donnybrook if I’ve ever seen one.

Both defenses made life extremely difficult for the opposing offense, and it was a razor thin margin (despite the junk time score) that was the difference in Ohio State outlasting the Nittany Lions, 20-12, Saturday afternoon in the ‘Shoe.

At the end of the day, it’s another close loss to the Buckeyes by a James Franklin led team, and another massive win in this matchup from the Scarlet and Gray sideline. It was a pretty ugly game, but all you want in these types of games is to get out of it with a win, and that’s where we are … thankfully.

After every OSU game we try to take stock in what we saw and pull out some observations. Here are five things we think we learned after Ohio State’s big win against Penn State as the Buckeyes stay on the path to what they hope is a fantastic journey in 2023.

Is it too early to be thinking about Michigan?

Ohio State football vs Penn State: Five observations halftime review

Ohio State football vs Penn State: Five observations halftime review #GoBucks

Welcome to halftime of the most important game of the year. We are very lucky that the Ohio State Buckeyes are beating the Penn State Nittany Lions to the tune of 10-6, because things could be much much worse.

Penn State is an elite team and I know fans are probably wanting this game to be a blowout, but that’s just not going to happen. Coming away with a win should be the one and only goal, no matter how ugly it may be.

We have noticed five specific things from the first half that are interesting to monitor. The game is so close, some of the items on this list are just due to pure luck or more deal with the Nittany Lions’ situation.

Social media reacts to Ohio State running back Miyan Williams’ touchdown vs. Penn State

Some of the best social media reactions to Miyan Williams finding the end zone against Penn State #GoBucks

Ohio State is in the midst of a battle with Penn State and took a 10-3 lead in the first half on a Miyan Williams touchdown run. As many expected, it has been a defensive slugfest in the first half with two of the nation’s best defenses living up to that billing so far.

The Buckeyes offense has struggled to find a groove early but leaned on the run game, and a third down and 10 completion to Marvin Harrison Jr. to move the ball on this drive which ended in Miyan Williams punching it in on a two yard touchdown run.

Ohio State narrowly escaped disaster on the drive as well as a scoop and score from Penn State was negated by a holding penalty in the secondary.  What did X, formerly known as Twitter, think about it?

We have the some of the best reactions to share.

Who did each member of the Fox Big Noon Kickoff crew pick to win between Ohio State and Penn State? #GoBucks

It’s game day for the Ohio State football team, but not just any game day. Ohio State is hosting a top ten Penn State squad that could be its biggest challenge of the season to date (no offense Notre Dame).

You know it’s a big one when the two major pregame shows originate from the banks of the Olentangy, and that’s exactly what we have Saturday with Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff and ESPN’s College GameDay in the shadow of Ohio Stadium

The ESPN crew already made their picks, and shortly thereafter, Urban Meyer and and the rest of the crew including Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, and Mark Ingram all made their predictions and had differing opinions.

Here’s what they all said.

Ryan Day previews Penn State game

In case you missed it, here’s what Ryan Day said about the huge matchup with Penn State on Saturday #GoBucks

Every Tuesday of a game week, Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day meets with the media at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center to reflect on what the Buckeyes did in the previous game and to look ahead to the next opponent.

This week, the Purdue game was put in the rearview mirror pretty quickly because Saturday’s game is against a top ten Penn State team looking to make a national statement in Ohio Stadium on Saturday. To say that Day’s press conference had a little more to it than previous weeks would be an understatement, and if you missed any of it, thanks to the fine folks at Ohio State, we have the presser in its entirety for your listening ears and brain consumption.

If you missed any of what Day said, check out the video and audio below and listen to him discuss the challenge of playing Penn State, the potential of getting some of the injured players back, what this game means to the program, and more.

We’ll be onsite and engaged as this massive contest unfolds pregame, during all the action, and afterwards for some analysis and reaction, so be sure to check back with Buckeyes Wire often.

WATCH: What Penn State head coach James Franklin said about Ohio State prior to the game Saturday

In case you missed it, watch and hear what James Franklin said about Ohio State leading up to the game on Saturday. #GoBucks

It’s time for a game that always seems to deliver a close and physical game, and one that could go a long way towards shaping the college football landscape in 2023. Ohio State hosts Penn State and there’s sure to be a lot of emotion, blood, sweat, and yes, tears, at the end of it all.

Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin has been on the losing end of these battles more than he cares to admit, and he knows that Saturday is another opportunity for him to get that monkey off his back and show the world what kind of team he has this year. Before that though, Franklin met with the local media in State College to preview the massive matchup.

We’re always interested in what the opposing head coach says in leading up to the game, and maybe you are right there with us. If so, we’ve got Franklin’s Ohio State preview press conference for you thanks to the Blue and White Illustrated YouTube channel.

You can watch and listen to Franklin touch on the respect he has for Ryan Day and Ohio State, touch on trying to contain Marvin Harrison Jr., what it would mean for Penn State to beat the Buckeyes, and more.

Ohio State and Penn State are set to kickoff Saturday at noon and we’ll have complete coverage before, during, and after the game so stay with us and check back often.

Ohio State vs. Penn State Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

Our writers all predict the outcome of Ohio State and Penn State. Give us your score prediction. #GoBucks

Ok. Here we go.

A game everyone pointed to at the beginning of the year is finally here and the entire college football world will be tuned in. Ohio State hosts Penn State in a top-10 matchup Saturday inside Ohio Stadium, and there’s a great deal on the line.

Both teams are unbeaten. Both have a wealth of talent. Both have designs on a Big Ten title and a berth in the College Football Playoff.

But first things first, the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions will have to win what looks like a war of attrition on Saturday, come out the other end and move on toward other matchups — notably against Michigan — in an effort to keep those goals on the table.

Each week we ask our writers to weigh in on what they think will happen with that week’s Ohio State game, and it’s time for that again. We have five writers with differing opinions, and here’s what each predicts and a reason things will play out they way they see them.
