Eagles RB Saquon Barkley trolls Giants owner John Mara with Unisom ad

Eagles RB Saquon Barkley trolls the New York Giants owner John Mara with Unisom ad

Last summer’s premiere episode of “Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants” gave a glowing example of differences in strategy. The biggest reason why Howie Roseman is head and shoulders better than a lot of NFL GMs was on full display during the opening episode of what was an insightful series.

The NFL world and social media reacted to the February meeting of the Giants team brass and an urgent discussion on the future of running back Saquon Barkley. Giants senior vice president of football operations and strategy Kevin Abrams, who can be seen on camera, raised doubt about any team (Eagles) being willing to pay Barkley the tag cost of $12 million (minus any money paid by the Giants to facilitate a deal) and give up a draft pick in a trade. Schoen then questioned whether it was worth having a 27-year-old running back earn $12 million per season when there were many pressing needs at other positions.

Everyone can remember the one moment in the series when Giants owner John Mara stated that he wouldn’t “be able to sleep” if Philadelphia landed Barkley.

The Eagles signed Barkley, and 2005 yards later, the rest is history. Looking to jab his former team one final time, Barkley dropped a new commercial for Unisom, helping those tired Mara eyes get some sleep.

Cowboys pocket-watching VP says Eagles are headed for salary cap hell

Dallas Cowboys VP Stephen Jones says the Philadelphia Eagles are headed for salary cap hell and will have some tough decisions to make

The Cowboys and Eagles are franchises headed in different directions. While Dallas will look to retool, Philadelphia has retooled and looks like a Super Bowl contender.

Howie Roseman is a salary cap wizard, and his dominance over the rest of the NFC East has been glaring for some time. During a recent sitdown with 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys Vice President and son of Owner Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, attempted to excuse his own incompetence by claiming that the Eagles will soon face salary cap struggles.

When asked about the difference between the two rosters following a 41-7 loss in Week 17, Jones mentioned that 50% of their cap space was on injured reserve.

A current look at salary cap space shows the Eagles have $9,856,286 available to roll over to 2025, while the Cowboys have $19,411,873 available.

According to Over The Cap, Philadelphia will start with over $31,102,970 before the cap rises, while Dallas will be at $19 million.

Looking at cap hits for 2025, Dak Prescott has $89,896,666, CeeDee Lamb has $35,450,000, and so on. In Philadelphia, Jalen Hurts has just $21 million against the cap, with A.J. Brown and Lane Johnson having $17 million.

Roseman is a wizard, and salary cap hell will likely never happen, regardless of the dead cap hits accrued by pushing time back with void years.

Jalen Hurts to wear mismatch cleats during Eagles game vs. Commanders in Week 16

Jalen Hurts to wear mismatch cleats during Eagles game vs. Commanders in Week 16

You can’t ban greatness, and on the heels of the NFL fining Jalen Hurts for wearing mismatch cleats against the Steelers in Week 15, the Eagles star quarterback is doing it again.

Knowing full well that Jordan Brand would cover the fine, Hurts again, donned the mismatched Kelly Green and Midnight Green Jordan cleats for the game against the Commanders in Washington.

The NFL fined Hurts $5,628 for violating the league’s uniform and equipment rules in Sunday’s win over Pittsburgh.

Officially, Hurts was fined for wearing a shoe color other than one of the Eagles’ “Constitutional team colors.”

Nick DePaula reported that Hurts won’t be paying that fine or this week’s financial punishment. Jordan Brand will ensure their star quarterback keeps his money, similar to a move they made with Michael Jordan 40 years ago.

Earlier in the season, Hurts turned heads when he was forced to wear one white Jordan and another Green Jordan cleat after having his foot stepped on and not wanting to miss a play.

Micah Parsons hates the Eagles so he won’t be rooting for a Birds win over Commanders

Micah Parsons says he hates the Eagles so he won’t be rooting for a Philadelphia win over the Washington Commanders

The Cowboys (6-8) are currently the 12-place team in the NFC, tied with the 49ers (6-8), one game behind the Cardinals (7-7), Falcons (7-7), two games behind the Seahawks (8-6) and three behind the 7th place Commanders (9-5) with three games left in the regular season.

Dallas needs a win over Tampa on Sunday and a Philadelphia win over Washington to remain in that tight playoff hunt.

On Thursday, Cowboys star pass rusher Micah Parsons was asked about potentially rooting for the Eagles to remain in the playoff hunt. Parsons didn’t hold back his contempt and disdain for the NFC East rivals, telling Dallas that “he hates the Eagles.”

Parsons has dealt with injuries in a quiet season production, logging 7.5 sacks, 13 QB hits, and six tackles for loss over the past six games.

Parsons will be able to speak his peace in person when Dallas visits Philadelphia in Week 17.

WATCH: Darius Slay on Mike Trout wanting to join Eagles end zone fight with Steelers

Darius Slay says Philadelphia fan and Angels outfielder Mike Trout wanted to to join Eagles end zone scuffle with Steelers

Mike Trout might play for the Angels of Anaheim. Still, the South Jersey native is Philly personified and proved his worth to Eagles fans during the dustup involving Darius Slay and Darnell Washington.

During a recent episode of his ‘Big Play Slay’ podcast, the Eagles’ star cornerback discussed Trout’s readiness to jump in the fight and help.

Trout is an Eagles season ticket holder and usually can be found seated right in front of that section of Lincoln Financial Field where the Steelers tight end and Eagles cornerback were engaged in blows getting thrown after Washington attempted to block Slay out into the street.

Michael Vick hired as the new head football coach at Norfolk State

Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is the new head football coach at Norfolk State University

Michael Vick is a Virginia legend, and although the former Eagles star has a cushy job at Fox Sports, he will now join the collegiate coaching ranks.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that Norfolk State has hired the former NFL quarterback after a recent interview.

Vick and NSU agreed to contract terms Tuesday, multiple sources said, with an introductory news conference expected within a week. He replaces Dawson Odums, whom the Spartans dismissed last month after a four-season run in which the program went 15-30.

A Newport News native and four-time NFL Pro Bowler, Vick, 44, has never coached, which will make staff composition paramount. Vick has already reached out to potential assistant coaches and support staff, sources said, and some of his hires likely will be familiar to fans.

The hire comes after Norfolk State dismissed former head coach Dawson Odums on Nov. 26.

Odums’ teams compiled a 15-31 record during his four years and finished with a losing mark in each of his final three seasons.

Vick, a Newport News native and star at Virginia Tech, has no formal coaching experience. He was a training camp intern with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Vick played 13 seasons for four teams, including the Falcons and Eagles. He threw for 22,464 yards and 133 touchdowns. He was selected to play in 4 Pro Bowls and won one Comeback Player of the Year award.

Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell is the favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year

Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell is now the favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year over Rams Jared Verse

The Eagles hit the jackpot when they could draft Quinyon Mitchell at No. 22 overall in the 2024 NFL draft without moving up. A Week 1 starter, Mitchell has transformed Philadelphia’s top-ranked defense and played a significant role in shutting down some of the NFL’s top wide receivers.

On the heels of the Eagles winning ten straight games and defeating the Steelers 27-13 on Sunday, Mitchell is now the betting favorite to win the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

BetMGM says Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell has overtaken Rams pass rusher Jared Verse as the favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year. It’s still an incredibly close race, but Verse’s grip on the award is slipping away slightly.

Mitchell is +105 ($100 bet wins $105) to take home the hardware, while Verse is +135. Chargers standout Tarheeb Still has the third-best odds at +900, followed by Chop Robinson at +1000. Everyone else is +3500 or longer to win.

  • Quinyon Mitchell: +105
  • Jared Verse: +135
  • Tarheeb Sill: +900
  • Chop Robinson: +1000
  • Laiatu Latu: +3500
  • Cooper DeJean: +3500
  • Calen Bullock: +4000
  • Payton Wilson: +6600
  • Kamari Lassiter: +6600
  • Braden Fiske: +6600

Philadelphia’s two rookies in the top six speak to Howie Roseman’s dedication to making a much-needed personnel change in the Eagles’ revamped secondary.

NFC playoff picture: Lions RB David Montgomery could miss rest of season with MCL injury

Lions RB David Montgomery could miss rest of season with MCL injury

The Eagles (12-2) earned an impressive 27-13 win over the Steelers (10-4) in Week 15, and then they received even better news when the Buffalo Bills defeated the Detroit Lions 48-42 at Ford Field.

The win dropped Detroit to 12-2 on the season, keeping Philadelphia within striking distance of the No. 1 seed. Because Philadelphia’s two losses came to NFC teams, the Eagles would need to win out and have the Lions lose to the Bears, 49ers, or Vikings in their next three games. The Vikings would need to lose to either the Bears, Seahawks, Packers, or Lions down the stretch for Philadelphia to earn the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage.

The news that star running back David Montgomery could miss the remainder of the season with an MCL injury adds more uncertainty to the Detriots’ stretch run.

On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Lions would be without starting defensive tackle Alim McNeill, who suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s loss to Buffalo, ending his season.

Schefter reports that starting cornerback Carlton Davis III suffered a fractured jaw in Sunday’s loss. Davis will undergo surgery and be sidelined indefinitely. Head coach Dan Campbell said the Lions also lost cornerback Khalil Dorsey to a season-ending ankle injury during Sunday’s game.

The injuries are the latest setbacks for the Lions’ defense, with 13 defensive players on the injured reserve list entering Sunday’s game. That includes star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who suffered a fractured tibia and fibula in Week 6.

The loss to the Bills snapped the Lions’ 11-game winning streak. The Lions (12-2) are still in the top spot in the NFC playoff bracket, holding the tiebreaker over the Philadelphia Eagles (12-2) based on winning percentage in conference games, with three games to go.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen was 23-34 passing for 362 yards (10.6 avg), two touchdowns, and a 122 passer rating; Allen also had ten strong carries for 69 yards (6.9 avg) and two touchdowns.

Buffalo running back James Cook had 14 carries for 105 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Bills wide receiver Ty Johnson exploded for five catches for 114 yards.

While the Detroit defense struggled on the day, the Lions offense exploded. Jared Goff, who passed for 494 yards and five touchdowns, went 38-59. Amon-Ra St. Brown exploded with 14 catches for 193 yards and two touchdowns.

Detroit’s dynamic duo at running back, Jahmyr Gibbs, was held to 8 carries for 31 yards and a touchdown, while David Montgomery was held to five carries for four yards.
