Cobra King Forged TEC (2022), Forged TEC X irons

Cobra’s two new hollow-bodied irons deliver more distance and feel for better players and mid-handicap golfers.

Gear: Cobra King Forged TEC, Forged TEC X irons

Price: $1,199 (Steel), $1,299 (graphite)

Specs: Forged 1025 carbon steel body and MS-300 stainless steel face with tungsten insert (Forged TEC); Cast 431 stainless steel body with forged ST-118 stainless steel face and tungsten insert (Forged TEC X)

Available: April 29

Who it’s for: The King Forged TEC is for accomplished golfers who want more distance, while the Forged TECX X is for mid-handicap golfers who want more distance and forgiveness in a compact iron.

The Skinny: The fourth generation of Forged TEC irons has a shorter blade length, thinner topline and narrower sole to make it appeal to better players, and Cobra also is releasing the first Forged TEX X, a game-improvement club that looks similar but is larger, more forgiving and delivers more ball speed for mid-handicap players.

As with many Cobra irons, the Forged TEC and Forged TEC X are available in a traditional, variable-length set or a One Length set. In the One Length version, each club is the same length as a typical 7-iron (37.25 inches).

TaylorMade Golf and G/Fore have teamed up for a limited edition footwear release in three different colors for men and women.

TaylorMade Golf and G/Fore, two of golf’s most popular brands, have teamed up for a limited edition shoe release.

TaylorMade clubs and G/Fore footwear are in pro shops and golf specialty stores throughout the United States, but now they are coming together to create a type of collection that we rarely see.

The collection will feature three different colorways and styles of G/Fore’s signature Gallivanter and MG4+ model. The golf shoes will come in colors that are suitable for year-round wear. The three shoes will consist of Navy camouflage, white, red and black camouflage and light blue for women.

Tiger Woods’ used golf clubs sold at auction for record price — five times more than expected price tag

The set of Tiger Slam irons and wedges features nine Titleist 681-T irons, 2-iron through pitching wedge.

Tiger Woods wasn’t thrilled with his putter on Saturday at the Masters, but one fan was so excited with some of Woods’ old clubs that he dropped more than five million dollars to get them.

The set of clubs that helped Woods win the Tiger Slam includes irons and wedges — nine Titleist 681-T irons, 2-iron through pitching wedge, as well as two Vokey wedges. One is a 58-degree wedge, the other a 60. Both wedges have “TIGER” stamped on them. The club that gets the most attention is the 8-iron, because of its small wear pattern in the middle of the face.

The set sold on Saturday for $5,156,162 at Golden Age Auctions.

Woods won the U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship in 2000 to become just the second golfer since Ben Hogan to win three majors in one year. Woods then made the turn in 2001 and won the Masters, becoming the first to hold all four professional major golf championships at the same time.

To verify the authenticity of the clubs, the irons come with an affidavit and polygraph results in 2010 from former Titleist vice president Steve Mata as well as a 2020 affidavit from former Titleist vice president Rick Nelson. The set also includes a 2000 Golfweek article by Jim Achenbach detailing the specs of the irons Woods used to win the 2000 PGA Championship, which match the specs of the irons being sold.

Ryan Carey, the owner of Golden Age auctions, said he has talked to “dozens of people intimately familiar with these clubs” about their authenticity. “We can say with 100 percent confidence that these clubs were used by Tiger Woods during his legendary 2000-01 seasons,” he told PGATour.com.

Golden Ages Auction ran the sale and if that name sounds familiar, it’s probably because it’s the same auction house that sold one of Woods’ backup Scotty Camerons last year for nearly $400,000. Golden Ages also sold Horton Smith’s green jacket from his 1934 Masters in 2013 for $682,000. It also sold a badge from that 1934 Masters Tournament for $600,000.

The clubs were purchased in 2010 by Todd Brock, who made a winning bid of $57,242. He kept them in a frame in his office.

“I got to enjoy them for 11-12 years,” Brock told PGATour.com. “I live a boring life. I don’t entertain a whole lot, so they weren’t getting the eyes on them that they deserve.”

Ever since he took the world by storm in 1997 when he won his first Masters and his first of 15 (and counting) majors, Tiger Woods has been the standard for golf fashion. Yes, we’re counting the baggy-pant phase as fashion.

This list explores the apparel and accessories that you too can wear to channel your inner Tiger. Unsurprisingly, most of our list is red and black. If Sunday greatness isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other colors offered throughout Nike’s collection of TW products.
