Jalen Reagor a full participant in Eagles practice, 4 others limited

The Philadelphia Eagles just released their Thursday injury report in advance of Sunday’s season opener and there was some good news, as Jalen Reagor was a full participant.

Four other Eagles players, DE Derek Barnett (hamstring), RB Corey Clement (quadricep), T Lane Johnson (ankle), and RB Miles Sanders (hamstring) were limited participants and it’s unclear of their status for Sunday.

Javon Hargrave (pectoral, hamstring) and Alshon Jeffery (foot) both missed practice again and could be doubtful for Sunday.

Eagles RT Lane Johnson restructured his contract to make room for Jason Peter’s new deal

Eagles RT Lane Johnson restructured his contract to make room for Jason Peter’s new deal

Jason Peters and Lane Johnson are brothers at arms and nothing shows loyalty to a teammate like having moves that help financially. Jason Peters had his contract redone after volunteering to move back to left tackle for the Eagles.

To assist the move from a financial standpoint, the Eagles all-world right tackle restructured his own deal, turning the bulk of his 2020 base salary into a signing bonus creating more than $5M in cap room for the Birds while pushing money to the future.

Frustrated Zach Ertz is approaching this season like it’s his last with the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are just days from the kickoff to their 2020 season and the best tight end in franchise history isn’t feeling the love. During a zoom meeting with the media on Thursday, Ertz visibly voiced his frustration over a lack of a contract extension after the 49ers and Chiefs locked up George Kittle and Travis Kelce to mega-deals.

On Thursday Ertz made it clear that he wants to retire as an Eagle, but he’s “frustrated” and approaching this season as if it’s “his last” in Philadelphia from a contract point of view.

Ertz finished the last season third among tight ends in receptions (88), fourth in yards (916), and tied for fourth in touchdowns (6).

During the past three seasons, Ertz ranks third in receptions (278), third in yards (2,903), and second in touchdowns (22). That normally would make the case for Ertz to get a similar deal to his two counterparts, but Kittle is younger and more dynamic. The Eagles also have the pressure of extending two top-10 tight ends, with Dallas Goedert also needing a new deal at some point.
Ertz reportedly turned down a deal that would have paid him $10.5 million per year with two years left on his current deal.

Ertz, 29, currently is set to make $6.6 million in 2020 and $8.25 million in 2021, before becoming an unrestricted free-agent in 2022, but the Eagles could release the star tight end and move on at no cost.

Ertz’s legacy puts pressure on the Eagles as a guy who’ll be the franchise’s all-time receptions leader this season, a possible Hall of Famer, and the player who caught the game-winning score in their first-ever Super Bowl. That would usually give a player the benefit of the doubt in regards to a team wanting him to retire in an Eagles uniform.

The Eagles can let 2020 play out and see where Ertz stands physically after turning 30 years of age, or they can strike now and lock up both of their star tight ends using the leverage of legacy and playing for one team to help get a hometown discount from Ertz.

What they can’t do is let the franchise’s all-time reception leader spend the 2020 NFL season feeling unloved.

Eagles’ restructure Jason Peters contract making his 1-year deal worth $8 million

Jason Peters contract with the Eagles is now a 1-year, $8 million deal

The ‘Bodyguard’ is officially back at left tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles after the team restructured his one-year deal to make it worth $8 million with $4 million guaranteed.

Peters returned to the Eagles as a free agent after right guard Brandon Brooks suffered a torn Achilles that’ll keep him out for the regular season. Peters was initially slated to stay at right guard with Matt Pryor playing left tackle.

After some reported discussion on Peters being paid his worth at the position, the future Hall of Famer walked in Doug Pederson’s office and made the switch on good faith and loyalty to the team.

The team responded by making Peters comfortable just days away from the season opener in Washington against a football team that now features Chase Young on the edge.

“It’s a little bit of a different approach this year,” Pederson said on Wednesday morning shortly after informing the players at the daily team meeting. “It is important to me to select players who are great leaders, who are going to be captains all year. I felt like these gentlemen represented what we’re looking for in the way they’ve worked so hard and led the way for the team on and off the field. It’s a group I’m proud to call our captains for the season.”

The offensive captains for 2020 are – quarterback Carson Wentz, center Jason Kelce, and left tackle, Jason Peters. The defensive captains are defensive linemen Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham, along with safety Rodney McLeod. The special teams’ captains are Duke Riley and Craig James, two players who’ve only been with the Eagles since last year.

James has impressed so much, that he was rewarded with a contract extension.
