Colts’ rookies set to report for training camp

The rookies are set to report for camp.

The Indianapolis Colts rookie class is set to report for training camp at the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield on Saturday.

The time is just about here for training camp to begin, and it starts with the rookies reporting on Saturday. The veterans aren’t expected to report until July 26, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if a few shuffled in early.

The Colts have all of their draft picks under contract entering camp so there won’t be any issues with holdouts or contract issues. They are also expected to bring in a number of undrafted rookie free agents.

Led by second-round pick Alec Pierce, the Colts have a quartet of Day 2 selections from the draft who will be right in the competition for starting roles, outside of tight end Jelani Woods, who is likely to start out as third on the depth chart.

The other two—offensive tackle Bernhard Raimann and safety Nick Cross—are expected to compete for starting roles right away.

Meanwhile, four Day 3 selections will be looking to carve out roles and spots on the roster throughout camp.

The Colts also have a number of undrafted rookies who could show some promise. Linebackers Jojo Domann and Sterling Weatherford are coming off of strong outings in the spring while offensive tackle Ryan Van Demark has a solid chance of making the roster as well.

The Colts are looking to bounce back from their late-season collapse in 2021, and it all starts Saturday when the rookies report for training camp.

Colts’ 2022 training camp preview: Safety

Taking a look at the safety position entering Colts camp.

The Indianapolis Colts are set to report to the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield for the start of training camp in less than a week. Among the many positions to watch, the safety group will have plenty of eyes on them.

It’s been a whirlwind of an offseason when it comes to the safety position. The biggest news came from the surprising announcement of Khari Willis’ retirement at the age of 26. We also saw the return of starting free safety Julian Blackmon during the spring workouts for the first time since tearing his Achilles.

Under the radar players to watch at Colts training camp

These Colts are flying under the radar entering camp.

Can you feel it? No, not the heat wave that is going on across the country. It’s the NFL season that is less than 50 days away and teams are gearing up to get training camp underway. The Indianapolis Colts are set to open up their training camp on July 27.

Head coach Frank Reich is entering his fifth season with the organization and will be looking to set up his team for a successful 2022 campaign. That all starts in the dog days of the summer as players will be competing for a spot on the 53-man roster and of course, for playing time on the field.

If the Colts are going to go on a playoff run this year, they will need role players to step up and be more significant contributors.

Here are some under-the-radar players that will be looking to impress at training camp over the next month:

Colts’ 2022 training camp preview: Cornerbacks

Here is a preview of the CB room entering training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts are less than a week away from the start of training camp when they return to the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield.

One of the rooms that went through a lot of changes this offseason was the cornerback room. The unit saw Rock Ya-Sin get traded to the Las Vegas Raiders while five-time Pro Bowler Stephon Gilmore was added via free agency shortly after.

Colts’ training camp preview: Who are the 2022 rookies?

The Colts currently have 25 rookies entering training camp. Who are they?

The Indianapolis Colts have a full 90-man roster going into the final week before the start of training camp and a number of those players are getting their first taste of the NFL life as rookies.

Though these rookies didn’t have to go through a modified offseason training program as the last two rookie classes did, first-year players always need some time to adjust to their new life.

The Colts have several rookies on the roster entering training camp. Eight of them were selected in the 2022 NFL draft while the other 17 were signed as undrafted rookie free agents following the draft.

Even though the streak of having an undrafted rookie on the Week 1 roster was snapped in 2021, there’s a solid chance that streak gets going again in 2022 as there are several intriguing names to keep an eye on.

Starting with the draft picks, here are the rookies on the Colts roster entering training camp:

Colts’ 2022 training camp preview: Linebackers

Here’s a look at the LB corps entering Colts training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts are officially one week away from the start of training camp with veterans set to report July 26.

Among those veterans will be the linebackers led by Darius Leonard and Bobby Okereke. The Colts didn’t make too many changes to the linebacker room outside of adding a veteran special teamer and two intriguing undrafted rookie free agents following the 2022 NFL draft.

Colts’ training camp preview: 1 player to watch from each position

Here is one player to watch from each position entering training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts are just over a week away from the start of training camp at the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield.

Coming off of the late-season collapse, the Colts made several changes to the roster this offseason. They swapped quarterbacks, likely upgrading from Carson Wentz to Matt Ryan. They added defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and cornerback Stephon Gilmore to go with a class of eight draft picks.

With training camp just around the corner, here is one player from each position to watch:

Colts’ 2022 training camp preview: Defensive Tackle

DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart lead the DTs into Colts training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts are just over a week away from the start of training camp at Westfield where the interior defensive line will boast some strong competition.

The starting spots will remain the same in Gus Bradley’s new defense. It’s the depth roles that will be the ones to watch when the team officially returns from summer break.

Not many additions were made to the interior defensive line outside of two intriguing Day 3 picks in the 2022 NFL draft, and this unit will have a lot of say in the type of production the entire defense has in 2022.

Colts’ 2022 training camp preview: Edge Rushers

Yannick Ngakoue and Kwity Paye lead the edge rushers into Colts training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts officially report to Westfield for the start of training camp in just over a week’s time where the defensive ends look to form a group that vaults the defense into a new tier.

The defense will be brought along by new coordinator Gus Bradley, who replaces Matt Eberflus. Bradley’s aggressive scheme will feature assignments from edge rushers that focus solely on getting upfield and impacting the quarterback.

The Colts made a big addition to the room this offseason via trade when they added Yannick Ngakoue while they hope a pair of their second-year players will take a jump.

For positional purposes, we are going to include Dayo Odeyingbo with the interior defensive line players even though he could see an equal amount of time on the edge as well.
