ESPN FPI Predicts No. 13 Texas A&M’s SEC basketball opener vs. Texas

Texas A&M is still a heavy favorite to defeat rival Texas during both program’s SEC openers

Texas A&M (11-2) is off to its best start under coach Buzz Williams during his sixth season with the program. The Aggies cruised through nonconference play with wins over Ohio State, Purdue, and Creighton while staying undefeated at home.

Already building a 3-1 Quad 1 record, Williams’s veteran squad has relied on elite defense and rebounding to keep opponents at bay. At the same time, the offense has continued to improve, especially from beyond the arc.

Still led by senior point guard Wade Taylor IV, fellow senior guard Zhuric Phelps has stepped up, while junior forward Pharrel Payne has begun to make a consistent impact in the paint.

After defeating Abilene Christian 92-54, Texas A&M will open the SEC season vs. rival Texas, who are also 11-2 and riding a four-game winning streak ahead of the Longhorn’s first season in the conference.

Led by freshman guard Tre Johnson, who leads Texas with 19.7 points per game, the Longhorns are talented but somewhat untested compared to Texas A&M, while the Aggies hold the obvious advantage playing at home in Reed Arena.

According to ESPN FPI, Texas A&M has a 63.3% chance to defeat the Longhorns, while the visitors are sitting at 36.7% to pull off the upset.

For Texas A&M to protect the home court on Saturday night, Wade Taylor and Zhuric Phelps must produce double-digit outings. At the same time, the Aggies must win the turnover battle and outrebound the Longhorns while defending the perimeter.

Texas A&M will host Texas on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 7:00 p.m. CT. The game will air on the SEC Network.

NFL analyst: The NFC should fear Commanders, Jayden Daniels

A former NFL linebacker and current NFL analyst says the NFC should fear the Washington Commanders and Jayden Daniels.

Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels was the surprise of the NFL in 2024. Not only was he not projected to do as well as he did, but he was actually slated to take longer to develop than some other quarterbacks (*cough* Caleb Williams *cough*). Those projections turned out to be very wrong, though.

Daniels has led the Commanders to their first 11-win season in over 30 years, recording 3,350 passing yards and 25 touchdowns with just nine interceptions. He also rushed for 864 yards and six additional touchdowns, leading the ground game. On top of that, now is some hype from former NFL linebacker turned NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho, who says the NFC should “fear” Jayden Daniels.

“I think teams should fear the Commanders,” Acho said. “I have in my notes, always fear mobile quarterbacks. Jayden Daniels, first quarterback in the history of the NFL, two passing touchdowns, 200 passing yards, and 65 rushing yards in three consecutive games. You can stop everything, but if Jayden Daniels decides to tuck and run, it’s your linebacker versus that 4.4 quarterback, and that 4.4 quarterback, Chase, is probably going to win.”

Daniels is indeed a very good dual-threat quarterback who has 100% elevated the play of everyone around him this season. The Dallas Cowboys will get a taste of that for the second time this Sunday.

The panel in the video went on to discuss how there’s no good defense for a mobile quarterback, and there may never be a good defense for it.

“When you think about a mobile quarterback, they can always disrupt the game plan,” Acho said. And disrupting the game plan is what Daniels does best.

Why Joshua Dobbs was chosen as 49ers new starting QB

Why the 49ers made a change at QB with Brock Purdy out:

It looks like the San Francisco 49ers won’t have quarterback Brock Purdy for their season finale against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Week 18 will mark the second game Purdy has missed this season, but this time the starter in his stead will be different. Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Wednesday announced Joshua Dobbs would get the start ahead of Brandon Allen, who has been Purdy’s backup for virtually the entire season.

According to Shanahan, the change from Allen to Dobbs has more to do with the personnel surrounding the QBs than either player’s performance. He confirmed the switch was because San Francisco is down so many offensive lineman, and Dobbs’ mobility gives the 49ers offense a better chance to be successful. Dobbs has 503 rushing yards and seven career rushing touchdowns, including a seven-yard TD scamper in Monday night’s loss to the Detroit Lions. Allen has 68 yards on 36 carries in his career.

Shanahan heaped praise on both signal callers though, giving an indication that one or both may be back in 2025.

“(Dobbs has) been great, him and Brandon,” said Shanahan. “They’ve been two good guys to have there. I’ve kind of looked at both of them as our two throughout the year. Kind of a little bit what I said in preseason. But they both have done really good looks on scout team, they split all the reps there. They’re always ready. They both prepare like they’re going to be a starter every week, so they’ve been great.”

If the 49ers can’t retain both Allen and Dobbs when they hit free agency in the offseason, Dobbs’ performance Sunday may determine how much San Francisco prioritizes bringing him back.

Undrafted rookie Tanner Mordecai is another other option if the 49ers don’t bring back one or both of Allen and Dobbs. While he wasn’t in the mix to be the starter Sunday because he hasn’t gotten enough reps behind the other two QBs, Shanahan said Mordecai has found other ways to make the most of his first NFL season.

“It’s always tough having four, just because of the reps,” said Shanahan. “So I mean, that’s kind of, (Minnesota Vikings QB) Nick Mullens his first year, I think he was the fourth and he got scout-team reps at safety until basically his first start. So that does happen. You’ve got to find ways to get the work in, but he’s taken advantage of his time here too.”

Dobbs performed well in his handful of snaps in Monday night’s loss after Purdy went down with a right elbow injury. If he puts together another strong outing behind a patchwork offensive line, he may quickly become San Francisco’s second-biggest offseason priority at QB behind Purdy and his contract extension.

SportsbookWire’s NFL Week 18 picks: ML, ATS and O/U predictions for all games

The SportsbookWire staff makes their NFL Week 18 picks and predictions for moneylines, spreads and totals.

The Minnesota Vikings (14-2) took over as the best covering team this season, improving to 11-4-1 ATS with its 27-25 home win as 1-point favorites vs. the Green Bay Packers in Week 17.

The Detroit Lions (14-2), Denver Broncos (9-7) and LA Chargers (10-6) are each 11-5 ATS, while the Washington Commanders (11-5) are 10-5-1 ATS.

The Vikings visit the Lions in the final Week 18 game, Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC / Peacock). The winner will claim the NFC North title and the NFC’s No. 1 seed, while the loser drops to the No. 5 seed. As of Thursday at 6:29 a.m. ET, BetMGM Sportsbook lists the Lions as 3-point favorites (-105).

The Tennessee Titans (3-13) are still the NFL’s top team to fade — bet against — with a 2-14 ATS mark. The Cleveland Browns (3-13) are 4-12 ATS, while the New York Jets (4-12), New York Giants (3-13) and San Francisco 49ers (6-10) are each 5-11 ATS.

The Baltimore Ravens (11-5) played an Under game in Week 17 — a 31-2 Christmas Day win at the Houston Texans. That allowed the Carolina Panthers (4-12) to tie them for the top Over record in the league as they’re both 12-4 O/U.

The Cincinnati Bengals (8-8), Dallas Cowboys (7-9), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-7) and Commanders, are each 11-5 O/U, while the Broncos are 10-5-1 O/U.

The best Under team is Houston (9-7), which is 5-11 O/U. Four teams — Atlanta Falcons (8-8), Chicago Bears (4-12), Browns and Giants are each 6-10 O/U.

Clippers at Thunder picks and predictions

Prediction

Thunder 114, Clippers 101

Moneyline

PASS.

The Thunder are the top team in the Western Conference and are a conference-best 14-2 at home. They should come out on top, but are far too expensive to play outright.

Against the spread

BET THUNDER -9.5 (-110).

The Thunder have been on fire, covering in 5 straight home games. They have held 9 of their last 10 opponents to under 106 points, allowing fewer than 100 points in 5 of those.

The Clippers have scored 102 points or fewer in 3 of their last 5 games, so they could struggle to keep pace against a strong OKC defense. Los Angeles is 4-6 ATS in its last 10 and 2-3 ATS on the road in that span.

Back THUNDER -9.5 (-110).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 218.5 (-105).

The Thunder are 3-5-1 O/U in their last 9 games and 14-17-1 O/U on the season. They have the No. 1 ranked defense in the NBA as well.

The Clippers are 12-21 O/U on the season and 1-5 O/U in their last 6 games, allowing 110 or fewer points in 4 of their last 7 contests. Los Angeles ranks 22nd in pace, so it doesn’t play at a high tempo either.

Play UNDER 218.5 (-105).

What is Forex Trading?

Before diving into the best forex brokers, it’s important to understand what forex trading is. Marcus Mariota’s role in Commanders’ Week 17 win over Falcons

Marcus Mariota tipped off Jayden Daniels about something with the Falcons’ defense and it paid off.

Dan Quinn told the press Wednesday he loves to talk about the impact Marcus Mariota brings to the team.

What a whirlwind last week was for Mariota. He was ill early, as some other players had been the previous week, and then he returned home as a son was born.

Quinn insisted Mariota did his homework, so he was on the sidelines Sunday night communicating with Jayden Daniels about the Falcons’ blitzes in the first half.

The Commanders then scored 17 second-half points on sustained drives and six more, going 70 yards on the opening possession of overtime, defeating the Falcons 30-24.

“When somebody can give you that kind of support and love, it’s really remarkable,” expressed Quinn. “And so great teammates do make great teams.”

“To see him go through that whole week and then in the game give that type of support, like that, was the clearest illustration of brotherhood I saw in the entire game.”

Quinn expressed he loved what he saw from Mariota, giving both wisdom and encouragement to Daniels in the overtime.

Quinn then asked, “What wouldn’t we all give to have that kind of support from people? Like it’s remarkable. And so, I know that Jayden feels that, we all do.”

Pointing to Mariota’s life experience, Quinn also feels that is important for Daniels. “There’s certain things that he can say from the lens of the helmet that I can’t or the coach can’t, but he can because he lived it and has seen it.”

“I’m really pumped that he’s on our team because he adds a lot to what we do. It may not show up on the stat sheet in that game, but let me tell you, he had a big hand in us winning that game.”

Mariota has also played in playoff games, so his experience could also help Daniels in those situations.
