Vikings reportedly never offered Justin Jefferson for No. 3 pick

WR Justin Jefferson was reportedly never offered to the Patriots

Much was made over the course of the offseason about potential trade packages between the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings for the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

There were even hypothetical discussions of Justin Jefferson being included in a potential deal with the Patriots. However, a recent report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested that the Patriots were never close to trading the third overall pick. Per Schefter, the Vikings also never offered Jefferson in a trade package.

The Patriots ended up staying put and selecting North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye third overall. Meanwhile, Minnesota traded with the New York Jets to move up from No. 11 to No. 10 and select Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

Schefter elaborated on his report during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“The Vikings did not offer [Jefferson]. They offered various pick packages to come up there,” said Schefter. “The Vikings had the most discussions with the Patriots. On Thursday, I texted somebody in New England. I’m like, ‘Any chance this gets done?’ And the text I got back a few hours before the draft was, ‘Zero chance.’ So clearly, the Patriots were determined to stick where they were.”

It would have been interesting to see what the Vikings’ trade packages were for the third overall selection. Evidently, the Patriots held the pick in high regard and were intent on not moving.

Kool-Aid celebrating Saints’ Kool-Aid McKinstry with a sweet limited edition flavor

Kool-Aid McKinstry has a pretty sweet partnership with his namesake. Kool-Aid is celebrating his draft experience with a limited edition flavor:

What a week for Kool-Aid McKinstry. First, he was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft — a cause worthy of celebration. And McKinstry has a pretty sweet partnership in the works with his namesake. Kool-Aid will soon launch a limited edition flavor offering named “Black Cherry Blitz,” inspired by McKinstry’s favorite flavor, to celebrate the occasion.

We’re still waiting on details for when these unique collectibles will become available, so stay tuned. But it’s tough to not draw a comparison to the special Alvin Kamara Airheads candies the star running back enjoyed early in his Saints career. Hopefully these two playmakers share more than a sweet tooth. If McKinstry achieves anything close to what Kamara has accomplished in the NFL, he’ll be able to look back on his career as a success. He’s already off to a good start endearing himself to the Saints’ fanbase.

Joel Embiid, Sixers in awe of Tyrese Maxey after saving them vs. Knicks

Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers were left in awe of Tyrese Maxey after he saved them against the New York Knicks.

NEW YORK — The Philadelphia 76ers looked dead in the water against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. New York’s Miles McBride made a mid-range jumper to put the Knicks up 96-90 with 28.2 seconds left and it felt like that was the dagger.

The obituaries for the 2023-24 season were being written. The Sixers looked defeated and headed toward elimination.

In the blink of an eye, Tyrese Maxey changed that. He converted a ridiculous 4-point play to bring Philadelphia within 96-94 and then drilled a logo triple to tie it and force overtime. The Sixers went on to win 112-106 in overtime and stave off elimination.

“It went in our favor thanks to Tyrese Maxey,” said Joel Embiid who had a triple-double, but nine turnovers. “He was unbelievable. Hitting big shots after big shots. Especially, with everything going on. Tobias (Harris) was amazing throughout the whole game. I think all my teammates. They did their job. Yeah. We got the win.”

Maxey has always been a confident kid. He exuded it on Tuesday. To have the guts to take and make the shots he made down the stretch is impressive and he carried the Sixers to a win and to fight another day.

“I saw confidence,” added Kelly Oubre Jr. “A will to not lose. I saw a big time player make a big time shot and I would expect nothing less.”

In the moment, Maxey did what he had to do. He made sure he got that shot up quick enough for Philadelphia to make a move and to continue to push forward. Coach Nick Nurse was just happy he did what he was supposed to do in that moment.

“We had to get it up the floor quick and get a 3-ball up, right?” said Nurse. “I’m glad we didn’t try to mess around and try to keep working for something or whatever. We had a little play call that has a counter to it and one of the options is just him pulling up and I know that was a deep one, but he raced it up there and took his chance.”

All season long, Maxey has proven to be a star player. He is going to do what he has to do with the season on the line to make sure Philadelphia is in the best position to win basketball games. He has been doing that all season long. Just Maxey being Maxey.

“Tyrese being Tyrese, man,” smiled Paul Reed. “Great players make great plays. Tonight, he made some great plays down the stretch that really sealed the win for us. He was awesome.”

Game 6 is back in Philadelphia on Thursday.

Four-Star receiver enters transfer portal

Four-Star receiver enters transfer portal #GoBucks

Another Ohio State football player has entered the transfer portal and it is yet another young buck in Kyion Grayes. The former four-star wide receiver comes from the state of Arizona and we see often times in this scenario, Grayes is likely to move to a spot closer to home.

It makes sense that he would want to seek opportunity elsewhere as he has spent two seasons on the bench, which includes his redshirt. The receiving depth is insane and Grayes was likely not going to see the field for a third season.

It needs to be noted that this past season, Grayes suffered an injury that did not allow him to keep for playing time. Wherever he ends up, we wish him good luck!

Notre Dame Baseball Gets Midweek Win at Michigan State

Go Blue…Go Gold

The following is courtesy of the Notre Dame Athletic Department:

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Notre Dame (23-20) held on to a 4-3 midweek victory at Michigan State (19-22) Tuesday evening, staving off a ninth-inning run by the Spartans after holding them scoreless through eight innings.

RHP Will Jacobsen (2-0) earned the win for his two three-up, three-down innings. RHP DJ Helwig started on the mound, going three full innings and allowing just one hit with no runs. On the day, Irish pitchers and defense forced five innings in which Michigan State batters went three up, three down.

C Joey Spence scored what would prove to be the deciding run on a leadoff homer in the third inning. The Irish manufactured three more runs on a groundout, a sac fly and a double steal. Notre Dame took advantage of Spartan gifted bases, as in seven-consecutive innings Tuesday, Michigan State allowed the leadoff Irish batter to take base, with two extra-base hits, three walks and two HBPs as Notre Dame’s leadoff rewards to start those innings.

Ohio State football offers 2026 elite North Carolina quarterback

The Buckeyes offered the elite 2026 NC quarterback

The high-level recruiting of quarterbacks for Ohio State football doesn’t look like it is going to stop anytime soon.

The list of highly regarded prospects to be Buckeyes is long, especially over the past few years. Two were “signed” in the 2024 class, Air Noland and Julian Sayin (transfer from Alabama) and in the 2025 class its the potential No. 1 overall player Tavien St. Clair.

Since the current class already has its quarterback, it allows the Ohio State coaching staff to look towards the 2026 cycle. With that said, an offer went out to North Carolina’s Faizon Brandon on Tuesday evening, the latest power program to offer the elite talent.

Ohio State joined Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Michigan and others in offering the nations No. 4 quarterback and 53rd overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Brandon recently took part in the Elite 11 Atlanta regional and performed well considering many of the campers were a grade ahead of him. It was more than enough to warrant an Ohio State offer and it looks like he will highly consider the Buckeyes.

WATCH: Back-to-back first round draft picks Taliese Fuaga, Laiatu Latu compete 1-on-1

It isn’t too often that two players competed against each other and then got drafted with back-to-back picks. So who won when Taliese Fuaga and Laiatu Latu squared up?

It isn’t too often you’ll see a pair of first round draft picks compete against each other at the college level. So it’s really impressive when you see two players picked back-to-back line up against one another.

That’s exactly what happened when UCLA kicked off against Oregon State last season, pitting right tackle Taliese Fuaga (the New Orleans Saints’ future pick at No. 14) against outside linebacker Laiatu Latu (the Indianapolis Colts’ choice at No. 15).

And it was one impressive battle. JM Football’s Bobby Skinner highlighted the battle in the trenches between these two future first-round picks, pointing out where they each got their wins. As for who won the day? You’ll have to tune in and see for yourself.

2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson prop bet picks and PGA Tour predictions

Analyzing the odds for the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson with PGA Tour picks and predictions for the top prop bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The PGA Tour is back in Texas for the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson this week after Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry came away as the champions of the Zurich Classic over the weekend. The 1st round from TPC Craig Ranch begins Thursday.

Below, we search for the best value prop bets among the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

There are co-favorites this week, with Jordan Spieth and Si Woo Kim both holding +1600 odds. Jason Day, the 2023 champion, has the 3rd-best odds at +2000, followed by Alex Noren (+2200). Will Zalatoris was in the field but he withdrew Tuesday due to a back injury flare-up.

TPC Craig Ranch is a par-72 and 7,414 yards, often ranking as one of the easiest courses on tour. It’s a wide-open layout with very few hazards to trip up players. It’s why the winning score has been between 23-under and 26-under in each of the last 3 years.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Top-5 picks

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Jordan Spieth (+350)

Admittedly, it’s really hard to get behind Spieth with the way he’s been playing lately, but he’s back home in Texas and has good course history (2nd and 9th). Even as inconsistent as he’s been this season, he has the ability to flip a switch very quickly and get back on track.

Alex Noren (+450)

Noren has finished between 9th and 23rd in each of his last 5 starts this season and has results of 12th and 21st in 2 starts at TPC Craig Ranch. He’s a perfect blend of recent form and tournament history.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Top-10 picks

Tom Hoge (+320)

Hoge should find himself in contention just based on his ball-striking, but he’s also putting the ball well enough to win soon, too. In his last 2 individual events, he’s finished 18th and 14th.

Keith Mitchell (+375)

Mitchell has played really well this season, with his lone hiccup recently coming at the Houston Open where he missed the cut. That was right after his collapse at the Valspar Championship but he’s since gotten back on track with a T-14 at the Valero Texas Open.

Byeong Hun An (+275)

An finished 14th here last year and he was on a roll this season before missing the cut at the Players and Valero Texas Open. He bounced back with a T-16 at the Masters and with this week being a birdie fest, he should be in the mix.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Top-20 picks

Nate Lashley (+333)

Lashley has finished 17th and 23rd in his last 2 starts in this event and earlier this year, he came in 3rd at the Famers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. All we need is a top 20 and it’s a good value at +333.

C.T. Pan (+333)

Pan came in 4th place at this tournament last year, the first time he played this event. He’s currently on a 6-event made-cut streak and if he plays the weekend at TPC Craig Ranch, he’ll have a decent shot at cracking the top 20.

Jhonattan Vegas (+500)

Vegas came in 23rd at the Corales Puntacana Championship, his 2nd top-25 finish this season. Back in 2021, he finished 9th and he made the cut (59th-place finish) in 2022, which are his lone 2 starts in this event.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Matchups

Suggested play is golfer in bold.

Byeong Hun An (-110) vs. Min Woo Lee (-110)

It’s not that I don’t like Lee this week, but I just prefer An. Lee hasn’t taken that major step forward that many were expecting this year and he missed the cut last year when An finished 14th.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – Top English

Aaron Rai (+160)

Rai ranks 27th in SG: tee-to-green, but it’s been his putting holding him back. It’s not a great field for Englishmen, with Matt Wallace having the 2nd-best odds at +350, so I’ll take Rai.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – First-round leader

Alex Noren (+3300)

Noren ranks 7th on tour in 1st-round scoring average this season. He fired a 65 here in the opening round in 2021, which was tied for 7th.

CJ Cup Byron Nelson – To make the cut

An, Min Woo Lee and Hoge: Yes (+165)

I like all 3 players this week with how open the course is. An and Lee are good drivers of the football, while Hoge is a terrific iron player.
