Rams at Cardinals: Final score prediction for Week 13 matchup

The Rams will pull off a close victory on Sunday against the Cardinals.

Having gone 1-2 in their last three games, the Rams’ backs are squarely against the wall. At 6-6, Los Angeles has almost no room for error. Another loss on Sunday to the Cardinals would create a situation where the Rams need a miracle to happen in order for them to make the playoffs, while even a win will hardly move them close to securing a berth.

The Cardinals may be 3-7-1, but they’re one of the better sub-.500 teams in the NFL right now. Kyler Murray is having a great rookie season and takes care of the football better than most veterans. He’s hardly the reason the Cardinals have struggled this season, given the way he’s played.

His athleticism has been a challenge for opposing defenses, too, making plays through the air and as a runner. We all saw how Lamar Jackson dismantled the Rams defense on Monday night, and Murray presents similar issues for Los Angeles.

Of course, the Cardinals aren’t nearly as dangerous and talented as the Ravens are, but Murray makes this offense dangerous is mental errors are made against the run.

The Rams should win this game, even though it’s on the road. However, it’s nowhere near a certainty after seeing the way they’ve played lately and with Arizona nearly upsetting the 49ers twice.

As ugly as it’s been for the Rams in recent weeks, they’ll pull this one off and keep their season alive. They’ll start slow but the offense will find its groove and hold the Cardinals offense in check. The defense was playing well before the Ravens came along, and it’ll get back in that rhythm on Sunday afternoon.

It won’t be as high-scoring as some think it might be, but the Rams will win a close one on the road.

Final score prediction: Rams 24, Cardinals 21

Did a former Bengals coach take a swipe at Andy Dalton?

Did Paul Alexander comment on Andy Dalton?

Paul Alexander is one of the more interesting elements of football twitter.

The former Cincinnati Bengals offensive line coach has all sorts of quality content up on his feed since moving away from coaching itself.

More recently, an interesting note about a quarterback came up. And while it seemingly refers to Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, it’s hard not to make the connection between Alexander, the Bengals and a starting quarterback by the name of Andy Dalton.

Keep in mind while the Chicago-Trubisky angle makes sense, the Bengals are off to the worst start in franchise history and a new head coach just went back on his decision and reappointed Dalton the starter.

The tweet in question:

Maybe this has nothing to do with Dalton. But this tweet followed closely:

What’s interesting here is Alexander saw plenty of bad quarterback play in Cincinnati. He arrived in 1994 as line coach and was trusted so much he was a top assistant to Marvin Lewis in 2002 as assistant head coach (he lasted half a season in Dallas after 23 years in Cincinnati).

But the Dalton connection is notable given the veteran’s downfall since his strong 2015 campaign, all the way to getting benched in favor of a rookie as soon as a new head coach arrived.

So far, it doesn’t seem like Zac Taylor has lost the locker room. The players are fighting. But Dalton was also a guy looking for a trade, which is impressive given his reputation and character.

With Dalton about to undergo his first start since getting the job back, this might be something to keep in mind.

Report: Chargers OT Russell Okung expected to play vs. Broncos

The Chargers get quarterback Philip Rivers’ security blanket back for Week 13 against the Broncos.

Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Russell Okung is expected to play against the Denver Broncos in Week 13, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

After missing two games with a groin injury, Okung will return to the starting lineup to protect quarterback Philip Rivers’ blindside.

Rivers struggled under pressure in those two contests, so having Okung back out there should be a confidence booster for Rivers.

With Okung coming back, rookie Trey Pipkins will likely go back to the bench.

Right tackle Sam Tevi, who’s missed the last three games with a knee injury, remains an unknown for today’s game. If Tevi can’t play, Trent Scott will resume the starting duties on the right side in place of him.

UGA football great after Tech win: ‘We still run this state’

UGA Football great Thomas Davis gave a shout out to the Georgia Bulldogs after beating Georgia tech again

On Saturday, Georgia beat rival Georgia Tech 52-7 for the 16th time in the last 19 meetings.

The Dawgs move to 11-1 on the season and will have a tough matchup with LSU for the SEC Championship, which for Georgia will be a College Football Playoff play-in game.

One former Bulldog who was proud to see his alma mater take home the Governor’s Cup once again is Thomas Davis, who is in his 15th NFL season and now with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Davis was a monster at Georgia, and though he made his NFL earnings as a linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, he actually played safety in Athens before becoming a first round pick. One of the hardest hitters in school history, Davis was a two-time All-SEC selection, making the second team in 2003 and the first team in 2004. Also, if that’s not enough, the dude has come back from three torn ACLs in the same knee. And you know who he credits his perseverance to? UGA.

Kyler Murray to start at QB for Cardinals vs. Rams despite hamstring injury

Murray was listed on the final injury report of the week but did not miss any practice time.

[jwplayer xr2BPSUF-ThvAeFxT]

The Arizona Cardinals listed quarterback Kyler Murray on the final injury report of the week for Week 13 with a hamstring injury. Officially, he is questionable for the game at home against the Los Angeles Rams.

However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Murray will start for the Cardinals.

The hamstring injury was not enough to cause him to miss any practice time. He was a full participant in practice on Friday. The Cardinals, who only have Murray and Brett Hundley on the roster at the position, did not add a third quarterback to the 53-man roster, so it was evident the injury was not a huge concern.

Murray has started every game this season as a rookie and has played all but three of the team’s offensive snaps this season.

Murray has completed 64.6% of his passes this season for 2,703 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also rushed for 418 yards and three touchdowns.

No. 4 St. John Bosco scores 34 consecutive points to conquer No. 1 Mater Dei in comeback

St. John Bosco has done it. The Braves went on a 34-0 run to mount an epic comeback over No. 1 Mater Dei and win the CIF-SS Div. 1 championship.

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, California) which looked unbeatable through the first 14 weeks of the season, led St. John Bosco 28-5 in the first half of the CIF-SS Div. 1 championship game on Saturday night.

It was going to be a runaway victory. The No. 1 team was going to win again and play in two weeks for its third straight National Championship.

Then St. John Bosco scored 34 points in a row. The Braves fought back in the second half and took down the two-time reigning champions 39-34.

[lawrence-related id=101411403]

Wide receiver Logan Loya, who transferred to St. John Bosco from Orange Lutheran (California), scored the final two touchdowns for the Braves.

After taking the lead, St. John Bosco went for a fourth-down conversion needing one yard with a five-point lead and about three minutes remaining. The ball at their own 29-yard line, the Braves needed just one yard to convert.

It was an aggressive move, but it made sense. The only proven way to stop Monarchs quarterback Bryce Young from scoring was to keep it out of his hands.

St. John Bosco did not convert. Mater Dei got the ball back with great field position.

But St. John Bosco found one more way to prevent Young from scoring and keep the ball out of his hands: Knock it out of them.

Ma’a Gaoteote stripped Young at the 13-yard line, getting St. John Bosco possession back with about 1:30 left in the game. The Braves could not ice it and had to punt, leaving Mater Dei 23 seconds to drive without any timeouts remaining.

It was not enough time.

[lawrence-related id=101411531,101411452]

The Monarchs have been a first-half team throughout season, but the primary reason was because they so often took insurmountable leads in that half and used the second half to run out the clock and stop playing aggressive.

Against Centennial (Corona, California) in the opening week, Mater Dei led 35-0 at the break. Against St. Frances Academy (Baltimore), the Monarchs took a 31-6 lead early in the third quarter. Against Mission Viejo (California) last week, they led 28-3 at the half.

St. John Bosco is better than all those teams. Its defense was phenomenal in the second half and quarterback DJ Uiagalelei showed what made him the ALL-USA Offensive Player of the Year last year, finishing the game with 444 passing yards and five touchdowns.

For much of the year, it looked like the only way the Monarchs could lose was if they beat themselves. In the first matchup against St. John Bosco this season, Mater Dei nearly allowed a comeback largely due to penalties.

This time around, turnovers in key situations did them in. Wide receiver Kyron Ware-Hudson, fumbled late in the third quarter with a nine-point lead, which led to a St. John Bosco score. On the next drive, Young threw an interception. He also fumbled on the potential game-winning drive.

Whatever self-inflicted wounds Mater Dei had with turnovers this season, it was never a turnover-prone team. The receiving corps has great hands. Young escapes pressure better than any other quarterback in the nation. The running game was good enough to keep defenses on their toes.

But St. John Bosco found a way to execute and force Mater Dei to give up the ball. With the sound defense forcing turnovers, Uiagalelei could get enough chances to get the ball to his play makers.

Give the Clemson quarterback commit, ranked No. 1 at his position in the country, enough opportunities, and he will do that.

That’s just what he did, leading St. John Bosco to an epic comeback over the top team in the country.

[lawrence-related id=101411432,101411390]

Now, Uiagalelei has one more game to secure his high school legacy. With the Player of the Year award last year but two losses in the CIF-SS Div. 1 title game to Mater Dei, he was just missing that championship.

He has finally taken them down. He earned the Southern Section trophy. Now, one win against De La Salle (Concord, California) in the California Open Division title game will send him out on top.

Mater Dei’s defense, so sound this season, could not stop him long enough. The offense, so explosive, could not maintain control.

The team, so unbeatable, could not hold on.

St. John Bosco got the victory. The Braves took down Mater Dei.

NFL Prop Bet Payday – Week 13

Analyzing key Week 13 NFL prop bets that seem poised for a pay day, featuring props around Davante Adams, Zach Ertz and Jack Doyle.

Some prop bets are pure luck in nature, like betting on whether the final point total will be even or odd. There is no skill to determining that. Where skill does come into play is taking on the bets that challenge an individual player to have a big game … or at least score a touchdown.

Here are three bets we’re making along with our friends at The Huddle that you should consider placing bets on — and we’re not including that absurd -400 number on Christian McCaffrey scoring a a touchdown. These are three affordable bets that could easily hit for you.

Up and Adams

The Giants pass defense has been hideous all year and have allowed huge days to elite receivers all season, including Mike Evans (three TDs), Adam Thielen (two TDs), Kenny Golladay (two TDs), Amari Cooper (one TD) and Allen Robinson (one TD). In two career meetings, Packers wideout Davante Adams (-143 to score) has caught 13 passes for 210 yards with a touchdown in each game. You have to know the Packers are aware of this and will push Adams early and often, especially when they get in the red zone.

The truth Ertz

Bill Streicher – USA TODAY Sports

The Dolphins are brutal on multiple levels on both sides of the ball. The Eagles got a new lease on life with the Cowboys’ loss to Buffalo on Thanksgiving Day and need to take advantage of it. It is easy to envision Philly scoring four or five touchdowns in this game and, if they score four, it’s hard to imagine tight end Zach Ertz (100) not having at least one of them.

Jack of all trades

Brian Spurlock – USA TODAY Sports

The Titans have been brutalized by tight ends all season – both great and middling alike. It is a weakness teams have taken advantage of, including the Colts, with Eric Ebron scoring a touchdown in the teams’ first meeting this season. Now Jack Doyle (+230) is the only show at tight end and, at that price, is a value pick for a team prone to not covering tight ends in the red zone.

Steelers vs Browns: 3 keys to victory

The Steelers must run the ball and protect it this week.

Mandatory Credit: David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

There is no love lost between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. They are going to square off this week to determine which team is in the driver’s seat for the final AFC playoff spot. The Browns already beat Pittsburgh once, and the Steelers cannot afford to let it happen again.

Here are the Steelers’ three keys to victory this week.

Take care of the football

The first time these two teams played, Pittsburgh turned the football over four times. Meanwhile, the defense didn’t force a single turnover. This is part of the reason the Steelers turned to quarterback Devlin Hodges this week. No one is asking him to be Ben Roethlisberger but at this point he just needs to be better and taking care of the football than Mason Rudolph.
