Texas LB DeMarvion Overshown rejoins the team after personal boycott

Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was present at summer workouts on Thursday.

DeMarvion Overshown is widely projected to secure a starting role at linebacker for Texas this season.

On July 2, Overshown stated on Twitter that he had made a personal decision to not participate in any team activities for the foreseeable future. His primary goal was to provide a sense of urgency to the administration in regards to racial and social injustice issues on campus.

Texas delivered by announcing a series of sweeping changes on Monday. In response to athlete requests, the school implemented these changes to “promote diversity, inclusion and equity and to more fully support Black students on campus,” university officials stated.

Overshown had previously stated that he would sit out until changes were made, but many were still curious as to when or if he would return after the historic announcement by the university.

On Thursday, he expressed on Twitter that he was happy to be back.

It was also reported by Anwar Richardson of Rivals that Overshown was participating in summer workouts on Thursday and had rejoined the team the day prior.

The junior playmaker from Arp, Texas was originally recruited as a four-star defensive back, where he had appeared in 17 career games for the Longhorns. Head coach Tom Herman announced in February that Overshown would be making the switch to linebacker for spring practices.

It made sense to move the 6-foot-4, 210-pound athlete to inside linebacker, considering the depth was minimal at the position. On the other hand, the safety spot was loaded with talent.
