Texas football: What can we expect from a Mike Yurcich offense?

With the new offensive coordinator in Mike Yurcich now in control, what could the Texas Longhorns offense look like?

One thing that the new OC mentioned was running the football. It has been a staple in the Yurcich offense for many years. In his final three seasons with the Cowboys the offense featured a 1,000 yard running back in two of them. Only once did the team fail to register 1,000 yards rushing between their top two running backs once.

This upcoming season the Longhorns will have Keaontay Ingram, Roschon Johnson and Bijan Robinson to carry the football. Last year the top two backs combined for 1,502 yards which doesn’t even factor in Ehlinger’s 663 yards. Running the ball hasn’t been an issue but add in Bijan Robinson and you might have an issue accounting for all of them.

Jordan Whittington is moving from running back to wide receiver but don’t discount him. He could also get some carries in a hybrid role. It could be very reminiscent to how Tyreek Hill was used for his lone season for Oklahoma State. Hill touched the ball 133 times for a 6.1 yards per touch. Whittington could be a hybrid player in this offense in 2020.
