Texas Football Recruiting: Where does the 2021 offensive class sit now?

Three months away from early signing day, blue-chip players are still available. Here is an update on the offensive 2021 recruiting class:

Offensive line

Commits: Hayden Connor (OT), Michael Myslinski (OC)

Remaining targets: Bryce Foster (OG), Savion Byrd (OT), Jack Leyrer (OT)

Analysis: Missing on the Brockermeyer brothers was the biggest recruiting swing and miss Tom Herman has had since taking over as Texas head coach. James and Tommy were supposed to be the crown jewel of the 2021 class but will now play in Tuscaloosa.

Now, Texas has been left scrambling, trying to find a center and tackle to round out their offensive line class.

It began with Michael Myslinksi, a three-star center from Florida. Once James Brockermeyer committed to Alabama, the Longhorns swooped in for Myslinski, the No. 13 center in the country. Offensive line head coach Herb Hand did an excellent job quickly filling the vacancy at the center position.

Moving to tackle, Hayden Connor has been one of the backbones in the 2021 class, committing in July 2019. Connor has been on social media, trying to lure other targets to Austin.

However, the Longhorns still want another offensive linemen to round out the class and it could come in Jack Leyrer from Dallas, Texas. Leyrer was recently offered by Texas and will be making a visit soon. He hopes to commit before the 2020 season begins.

The two wild cards are Savion Byrd and Bryce Foster.

Beginning with Byrd, the four-star tackle from Duncanville has been fading away from Texas for a while. It seemed as SMU led the way but now, Oklahoma is making a real splash for the once five-star. Byrd attended the “Soomer Summit” this past weekend.

Moving to Foster, Oklahoma has long been seen as the favorite for the guard. He also was in Norman this weekend, joining Byrd for the recruiting weekend. Foster has not visited Austin since Nov. 2017 and it was unofficial.

It would be a major win for Texas and Hand to land Byrd or Foster. It would even lessen the sting of losing the Brockermeyer twins to Alabama.
