Texas Football Recruiting: Where does the 2021 offensive class sit now?

Three months away from early signing day, blue-chip players are still available. Here is an update on the offensive 2021 recruiting class:

Wide receiver

Commits: Jaden Alexis, Gunnar Helm (TE), Casey Cain

Remaining targets: Ketron Jackson, J.J. Henry

Analysis: It is unusual for Tom Herman and his staff to target out-of-state prospects. However, all three of Texas’ current wide receiver commits come from three different states.

Casey Cain committed on May 15, giving the Longhorns a Louisiana prospect. Listed at 6-2 and 175 pounds, Cain is a multi-sport athlete, also playing basketball and running track.

Gunnar Helm is listed as a tight end, measuring in at 6-5 and 225 pounds. A top-five player from the state of Colorado, Texas beat out tight end powerhouse Iowa for the three-star’s commitment.

The latest commit came from Jaden Alexis, a speedy inside receiver from Florida. Alexis has run a verified 4.41 40-yard dash, giving him elite NFL level type speed.

To round out the class, Texas will be looking to add a blue-chip outside receiver in Ketron Jackson. Arkansas is also in the running for Jackson but the in-state receiver is currently leading towards the Longhorns. Jackson recently released a top seven.

If Jackson does not work out, J.J. Henry of McKinney North High School will be the target. As a junior, Henry had 1,419 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. Between him and Jackson, Texas will be adding an in-state wide receiver before the recruiting cycle ends.
