Texas Basketball: Five things we learned from the Maui Invitational

UT’s season began in spectacular fashion, winning the Camping World Maui Invitational. Here are three things we learned from the tournament.

Greg Brown still needs time

Shaka Smart has had a couple of one-and-done players during his time in Austin. None of them quite had the hype Greg Brown did. The No. 9 overall prospect on the 247Sports composite, the five-star recruit decided to stay home to make an NCAA Tournament run with Texas.

Despite the hype, the true freshman is going to need some time to get accustomed to high-level college basketball. His defense was great at times but he struggled offensively, especially from behind the arc. For the overall tournament, Brown shot 1-12 from 3.

Young players in college basketball always need to adjust. Once Brown fully settles in, his time will come. Especially with the supporting cast around him. Once the Longhorns are in the midst of the Big 12 push, Brown will be a superstar.
