Texas Basketball: Five things we learned from the Maui Invitational

UT’s season began in spectacular fashion, winning the Camping World Maui Invitational. Here are three things we learned from the tournament.

Texas can compete with the best

Getting bracketed against Davidson then Indiana was no easy task. Both teams will be seen as NCAA Tournament teams when March comes around. While neither was ranked in the AP top 25, Texas will leave Maui with a Quadrant One and Quadrant Two victory from those two teams.

With the win against North Carolina, the Longhorns get a top 15 and another Quadrant One win. Leading by 12 at halftime, the Tar Heels started out hot. Texas fended them off, getting another huge win in crunch time.

The tests will continue to come on Sunday against Villanova and once Big 12 play begins. With a home-and-away round-robin schedule, two games against Baylor, Kansas, and West Virginia are on the way. Texas will have confidence against all of them after their Maui Invitational win.
