2024 4-Star Edge Zina Umeozulu has placed Texas A&M among his Top 9 program list

2024 4-star edge Zina Umeozulu out of Allen, Texas, has included Texas A&M in his Top 9 program list

The incoming Edge class in the 2024 recruiting cycle is just downright fun from a pure talent perspective, and Texas A&M remains squarely in the battle for five-star Colin Simmons. However, one prospect in the 2024 cycle, four-star Edge Zina Umeozulu, has recently stuck out after placing the Aggies in his final Top 9 program list late last week.

Out of Allen, Texas, Umeozulu is currently positioned as the 11th-ranked Edge and the 25th-ranked prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Standing at 6-4 and 210 pounds, Texas A&M DE coach Terry Price has been in constant contact as the incoming senior at Allen High School took an unofficial visit to College Station back in January; Umezulu has accumulated 89 tackles, nine sacks, 15 tackles for loss, and three forced fumbles in his sophomore and junior season.

Umezulu’s Top list includes three SEC programs, including Georgia, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC, Miami, SMU, and Texas A&M, as he will take consecutive official visits to Oklahoma (June 16) and Texas (June 23).

One fact that may come to be very important down the stretch, Zina’s brother is the University of Texas sophomore offensive lineman Neto Umeozulu. As we’ve seen with several recruits in years past, the family becomes the sole influence while mulling a collegiate-based decision. So look for the Aggies and head coach Jimbo Fisher to set up an OV campus visit later this summer.

4-star edge rusher Zina Umeozulu names Oregon as one of top schools

Check out EDGE prospect Zina Umeozulu’s — who named Oregon as one of his top schools — recruiting profile.

As the 2024 recruiting season matures, the number of blue-chip recruits interested in the Oregon Ducks continues to grow. Today, 4-star edge rusher Zina Umeozulu announced his top nine schools, one of which is the Ducks. Umeozulu is ranked by 247Sports as the 141st player in his class and 11th best EDGE.

Umeozulu is from Allen, Texas, and his top schools seem to reflect a liking for his home state and its surrounding region. Of the nine schools he named, five are in Texas or in a state that borders Texas. In addition, Umeozulu’s only two scheduled official visits are with Texas and Oklahoma.

One thing that could make Oregon an attractive target for Umeozulu is the interest of another high-quality 2024 pass rusher, Elijah Rushing. According to On3, the Ducks are the favorite to land Rushing, who many think is the best pass rusher in the 2024 class.

Historically, edge rushers do much better when they have a quality teammate on the other side of the D-line, because it prevents the O-line from focusing too much on one or the other. If Rushing is to come to Oregon, Umeozulu could be attracted by the prospect of being part of a powerhouse freshman pass-rushing tandem.

Recruits react to weekend spent in Norman with the Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma hosted an important recruiting weekend for the 2024 class, and here’s how they reacted on social media.

A rough first season on the gridiron for Brent Venables, and his staff didn’t slow them down one bit on the recruiting trail for 2023. And it’s unlikely to hinder anything they do in the 2024 cycle as well.

A month removed from a strong performance in the Cheez-It Bowl, the Oklahoma coaching and recruiting staff have been grinding in preparation for this past weekend’s “Junior Day” on campus at the University of Oklahoma.

The Sooners hosted a number of top prospects in the 2024 recruiting class, including four-star quarterback [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag], four-star running back [autotag]Jeremy Payne[/autotag], four-star OL [autotag]Casey Poe[/autotag], and four-star safety [autotag]Aaron Flowers[/autotag]. Each has been trending in the Oklahoma Sooners’ favor.

Venables and his staff also hosted four-star in-state product [autotag]Xadavien Sims[/autotag], a defensive lineman out of Durant, Oklahoma. Michigan State is heavily pursuing Sims in addition to David Stone, who will be coming to Norman in a couple of months. These will be two crucial recruiting battles for the Sooners, especially after losing Norman’s Bai Jobe to the Spartans.

The Sooners’ staff has shown that they can recruit in the little more than a year they’ve spent in Norman. This weekend was a big opportunity to make some headway in some notable recruitments.

Here’s how a number of those prospects reacted to their time in Norman.

Recruits react on social media to Oklahoma Sooners Spring Game weekend

How did recruits react on social media to their experience in Norman for the Oklahoma Sooners Spring Game?

The spring game is always more than just a football game for college teams. It’s an opportunity to show off your program to not only fans but to recruits as well. For Brent Venables, it was his first opportunity to put his team and vision on display for the world’s consumption.

And what a display it was.

The Sooners hosted more than 200 former players and a long list of more than 50 recruits according to Brandon Drumm of OUInsider (VIP).

Those recruits were treated to more than 75,000 Sooners fans in attendance showing the support they have not only for the current state of the program but for the past as well.

Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma’s sixth Heisman winner, received an outpouring of love from the Sooners faithful, which had to stand out to the recruits in attendance.

Here’s some of what the recruits had to say via social media after their weekend in Norman with the Oklahoma Sooners.

Texas offers four-star EDGE Desmond Umeozulu from Maryland

Desmond is the cousin of Texas offensive line signee Neto Umeozulu and top 2024 target Zina Umeozulu.

Texas went to the east coast to offer 2023 four-star edge rusher Desmond Umeozulu on Monday afternoon.

That last name should sound familiar to Longhorn fans. Desmond is the cousin of Texas offensive line signee Neto Umeozulu and top 2024 target Zina Umeozulu.

247Sports composite ranks Desmond as the No. 4 player in the state of Maryland and a top 300 prospect nationally.

Colleges all over the country love his upside as a player. He has picked up over 33 offers from big name programs such as Georgia, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State and now Texas.

Umeozulu has a very projectable 6-foot-6, 230-pound frame that should play well at the next level. He helped lead C.H. Flowers High School to an impressive 11-2 season and a state semifinal appearance in his junior year.

Texas offers 2024 four-star edge rusher Zina Umeozulu

Texas offers one of the best players in the 2024 class.

The Longhorns are in dire need of talent on the defensive line and have been hitting that position extremely hard in the recruiting ranks.

Texas’ defensive line does not have a Joseph Ossai on the roster this year, or a player that can control the line of scrimmage and generate consistent pressure on the quarterback.

Luckily for the Longhorns, defensive line coach Bo Davis has been in his bag when it comes to recruiting. He has already secured seven defensive line commits in the 2022 class, and he and the rest of the staff are already looking for the top players at the position in the 2023 and 2024 cycle as well.

The latest target is four-star edge rusher Zina Umeozulu. Texas extended an offer to the Allen, Texas native on Wednesday, and he is currently rated the No. 2 edge rusher in the country and the No. 4 overall prospect in the state for the 2024 class, according to 247Sports.
