Snap counts and playtime percentages: Seahawks at Panthers

Snap counts and playtime percentages from the Seattle Seahawks Week 15 win over the Carolina Panthers.

The Seattle Seahawks defense was truly tested Week 15 with four starters out for the matchup. Defensive ends Jadeveon Clowney and Ziggy Ansah, linebacker Mychal Kendricks and cornerback Shaquill Griffin were all inactive on Sunday.

To make matters worse, three more defenders were injured later in the contest, including safety Quandre Diggs and linebacker Bobby Wagner, who both succumbed to sprained ankles and did not return to the game.

“Yeah, we didn’t have Clowney, we didn’t have Shaq, we didn’t have Ziggy out there today – Mychal Kendricks not out there,” coach Pete Carroll said after the win. “I think that’s a great statement for us to go out and win a football game with the other guys playing for us. Really proud of those guys. And it’s great for us, again. It gets them closer to helping us when we need it down the stretch. They’re all going to have to contribute. Everybody plays on our team, so they’re going to have to, so hopefully we’ll get better.”

Here’s a look at the snap counts and playtime percentages for both the Seahawks and the Panthers.

A look at the Seahawks injuries heading into Week 15

The Seattle Seahawks could see a number of players return from injuries in time to face the Carolina Panthers Week 15.

The Seattle Seahawks are a bit dinged up heading into Week 15 although a number of players could return to action. Coach Pete Carroll provided a number of injury updates during his Monday afternoon press conference.

Running back Rashaad Penny (knee): Penny’s season is now over after he suffered a significant knee injury against the Rams. A recent report indicates Penny has a torn ACL.

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett (leg, illness): Lockett has been battling the illness circling the Seahawks locker room but should be on the mend. “He’s fighting through it,” Carroll told reporters. “You can tell he’s carrying it. He’s out of that now. It’s a real positive for us. I’m glad for him.”

Linebacker K.J. Wright (finger): Wright only missed a few snaps Sunday night after he dislocated his finger.

Linebacker Cody Barton: Carroll couldn’t be certain yet whether or not Barton is battling a knee or ankle injury. “I don’t know that, I don’t know if it’s one or the other,” Carroll explained. “Generally, it would be your knee because it’s a more difficult injury, but I don’t know. He was okay and he went back int here. He’s very tough and very demanding of himself. He just overcame it. We’ll find out. I don’t know.”

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (core): “He’s hurting – he’s going to have to work his way through the week to make it for game day,” Carroll cautioned. “He’s playing really tough under the circumstances. He’s got some core issues that he’s working with, but he’s making it through. He’s toughing it out, doing rehab and all that stuff.”

Defensive end Ziggy Ansah (neck): Ansah was inactive Week 14 but Carroll expects him to practice ahead of the Panthers. “Yeah, I do because he practiced last week,” Carroll said. “He certainly should, it’s just whether his strength can be mustered here by the end of the week and get back at it. We’ll look forward to that.”

Seattle and Carolina are set to kick off Sunday at 10:00 a.m. PT.

Week 14 snap counts and playtime percentages: Seahawks at Rams

Complete Week 14 snap counts and playtime percentages from the Seattle Seahawks’ loss to the Los Angeles Rams in primetime.

The Seahawks suffered a tough divisional loss to the Los Angeles Rams Sunday night on the national stage to yield the NFC West lead back to the San Francisco 49ers. Seattle also realized its first road defeat of the year.

With a few players battling injuries – including defensive end Ziggy Ansah, who was inactive for the matchup – some adjustments had to be made.

“We made our efforts, we made – the things that we do to get us back in it, we had couple great picks and a great touchdown by (Quandre Diggs) and we blocked the field goal too,” coach Pete Carroll said postgame. “We did the kinds of things that we needed to do, but we needed a couple plays on the other side to go ahead take advantage of it, and we weren’t able to find it. So a difficult night. And you got to hand it to them. They played great.”

Here’s a look at the snap counts and playtime percentages for both the Seahawks and the Rams Week 14.

3 Duds and only 1 Stud as Seahawks fall to Rams Sunday night

Who stood out in Seattle’s disastrous Sunday night performance? Here are the duds and studs from the Seahawks’ loss to the Rams.

Ouch. The Seattle Seahawks suffered a brutal 28-12 loss in front of a national audience on Sunday night at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams. It was about as complete a team loss the Seahawks have been dealt in the Pete Carroll era. Seattle looked entirely out of sync in nearly every aspect of the game.

On a night where the Seahawks had a prime opportunity to move into first place in the conference thanks to the 49ers beating the Saints, Seattle has fallen back to a wild card as San Francisco reclaimed first place.

The loss proved costly, but if there is a silver lining, the Seahawks still control their destiny for a division title and first-round bye. The bad news is all margin for error is now eliminated and Seattle must win all remaining games.

Here is who stood out in the ugly loss.

Ziggy Ansah, Jadeveon Clowney both game-day decisions for Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks defensive ends Ziggy Ansah and Jadeveon Clowney will both be game-day Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Seattle Seahawks had a solid week of practice ahead of the Sunday night matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

“We got out on the grass and got running around,” coach Pete Carroll said Friday afternoon. “We had to put together a week that’s a little adapted because of the shorter week. It seemed like things worked out fine. We were able to get some guys recovered. That’s one of the big questions and I think we got that done. Looking forward to it. Ready to go.”

A couple of players remains question marks for Sunday, however, including defensive ends Ziggy Ansah and Jadeveon Clowney, who are both battling injuries.

“We’ll still check those guys both out,” Carroll said. “They did practice enough this week that we feel good about it. We got to check them out on gameday.”

Clowney (core) was listed as a full participant in Friday’s practice, while Ansah (neck) was limited.

The Seahawks and Rams are set to kick off from Los Angeles Sunday night at 5:20 p.m. PT. You can find everything you need to know to catch the action here.

Pete Carroll updates Seahawks injuries ahead of Rams Week 14

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a number of player injury updates ahead of the Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Following the team’s walkthrough on Friday, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a number of player injury updates ahead of the Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Cornerback Neiko Thorpe (core) has been ruled out for Sunday night after undergoing hernia surgery and will be shut down for the remainder of the year. He is the only player Seattle officially listed as “out” for the contest.

Defensive ends Ziggy Ansah (neck) and Jadeveon Clowney (core) will both be game-day decisions. “We’ll check those guy both out,” Carroll said. “They did practice enough this week where we feel good about it. But we’ve got to check them out on game day.”

Linebacker Mychal Kendricks is doubtful to play Week 14 with a hamstring injury and Cody Barton is likely to hear his number called Sunday night as Kendricks’ replacement.

Tight end Luke Willson (hamstring) and fullback Nick Bellore (quadriceps) are also doubtful for Sunday against the Rams.

Seahawks DE Ziggy Ansah limited to start week with shoulder stinger

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Ziggy Ansah began the work week limited in practice after suffering a shoulder stinger against the Vikings.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Ziggy Ansah suffered a minor setback Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings. He was limited to start the practice week on Wednesday.

“He had a stinger in the game,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters. “Just got to make sure he’s okay.”

While the stinger impacts the same shoulder Ansah had operated on over the offseason, Carroll can’t be certain if there’s a correlation with the new injury.

Coming off a Monday night game, the Seahawks had a light practice on Wednesday consisting of only a walkthrough. While the participation report was estimated as though a full practice had taken place, it was at least encouraging Ansah was able to take the field.

“He looks like he’s doing okay so far,” Carroll said. “We won’t know for a couple days if he’s clear and all that.”

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was also listed as limited on Wednesday but is expected to play Week 14.

Ansah, Clowney and the rest of the Seahawks have a few more days to recover before heading down to Los Angeles to face the Rams Sunday night.

Ziggy Ansah’s shoulder is a problem, according to Pete Carroll

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll admitted that Ziggy Ansah’s shoulder could be an issue going forward this season.

The Seattle Seahawks not only came out of Monday night’s game with a victory and a first place standing in the NFC West, they also managed to avoid any serious injuries – which is always crucial at this stage of the season.

However – coach Pete Carroll did indicate the shoulder injury suffered by veteran defensive end Ziggy Ansah could be more of an issue than originally thought.

“Ziggy’s shoulder is a problem,” Carroll said on 710 ESPN’s Danny and Gallant show Tuesday morning. “But he bounced back from it and he did recover from the stinger, so we’ll see. He’s been nursing the shoulder all along from last year and we’ll have to see how it goes going forward.”

The fact that Ansah’s injury is to the same shoulder he battled with last season, throughout training camp and the preseason is certainly not a good sign, and should it flare up at all this week there’s a decent chance he has to miss some time.

Ansah’s performance has started to come around as of late, with five quarterback hits in his last two games, and his absence would be felt by this up-and-coming Seattle defense.

A short week will make it a little tougher for these veteran guys to get right by Sunday night, when Seattle takes on the Rams in Los Angeles.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Minnesota Vikings: Week 13 keys to victory

Keys to victory for the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings as the two teams square off Week 13, Monday night at CenturyLink Field.

The Seattle Seahawks are set to host the Minnesota Vikings in a prime-time affair Monday night at CenturyLink Field. The game is crucial to both NFC contenders, who are still eyeing their division titles but currently fighting for the top seed of the wild-card spots.

Here are the Week 13 keys to victory for both the Seahawks and the Vikings.

Vikings’ keys to victory: The Vikings are coming off their bye week well-rested and ready to face the Seahawks in primetime. Minnesota, like Seattle, is second in their divisional standings and can’t afford an NFC loss in the final stretch of the season.

The Vikings will need to rely heavily on their quarterback Kirk Cousins, one of the better signal-callers in the league with 21 touchdowns to only three interceptions. Cousins, whose record in primetime is less than sub-par, is actually in the midst of the best campaign of his career.

Minnesota’s defense, however, will have to find a way to stop Seattle’s own QB, Russell Wilson, who is enjoying an MVP-caliber year.

Seahawks’ keys to victory: Seattle has been a better road team this season and desperately needs a win in front of the home crowd. Hard to beat on the national stage, Wilson and Co. will need to stick to basics, relying on running backs Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny to pound the ground and set the tempo for a Week-13 win.

The Seahawks have finally found a way to rush the passer, which is exactly what they will need to do to stop Cousins and the Vikings’ offensive attack. That being said. . .

Matchup to watch: Vikings QB Kirk Cousins vs. Seahawks defensive ends Late in the season, Jadeveon Clowney has truly emerged as one of Seattle’s most formidable defensive weapons. Recently battling a hip/groin injury, his health could be a question mark heading into Monday night. Fortunately for Seattle, Ziggy Ansah has stepped up and will likely factor heavily into the game plan.

Who wins? The Seahawks will find a way to seal the deal with a statement win on Monday night but it might require some last-minute Wilson heroics to get the job done.

Seahawks 27, Vikings 20.
