Eagles agree to deal with linebacker Zach Cunningham

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent linebacker Zach Cunningham

Howie Roseman said he’d eventually address the linebacker position, and on Sunday evening, Philadelphia signed Zach Cunningham to a deal.

Philadelphia released Davion Taylor on Sunday, and the team added depth after Nakobe Dean suffered an ankle injury, agreeing to a deal with Myles Jack as well.

Cunningham played six seasons for the Texans and Titans. He had 392 solo tackles, 228 assists, 6.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one interception.

Last season for Tennessee, Cunningham had 29 tackles and one pass defended in six games.

Eagles agree to terms with ex-Titans LB Zach Cunningham

The Eagles have agreed to terms with former Titans LB Zach Cunningham.

Former Tennessee Titans linebacker Zach Cunningham has found a new home with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles announced on Sunday that they have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Cunningham, who spent a season-plus in Nashville after being claimed off waivers from the Houston Texans in 2021.

In addition to Cunningham, the Eagles also agreed to terms on a deal with former Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker, Myles Jack.

Cunningham appeared in 10 games with the Titans over his season-plus with the team. The veteran linebacker is no doubt an impact run defender, but he leaves a lot to be desired in coverage.

He only played in six contests in 2022 due to injury. His season ended in December when he was placed on injured reserve for a second time.

Cunningham was cut loose by the Titans in February, which saved the team $8.9 million but cost $4.5 million in dead money. He was one of two starting linebackers Tennessee parted with, as David Long left in free agency to sign with the Miami Dolphins.

Howie Roseman says Eagles will keep their options open at linebacker position

During his presser to open up the first practice for Philadelphia’s 2023 training camp, GM Howie Roseman says Eagles“will keep their options open” at the linebacke rposition

The Eagles are always doing their due diligence on potential roster additions, and we’re wondering if any of the top remaining NFL free agents would fit in Philadelphia.

The Birds are stacked at almost every position outside of the linebacker position.

Philadelphia has Nakobe Dean and Nicholas Morrow but could look to add more depth with just Christian Ellis, Shaun Bradley, and Davion Taylor as reserves.

During his Wednesday press conference with head coach Nick Sirianni, Philadelphia’s GM said he’d address the linebacker position if necessary.

With Day 2 of the Eagles’ training camp scheduled for Thursday, we’re looking at a handful of free-agent linebackers that could fit the scheme.

We’re looking at the best available NFL free agents for the Philadelphia Eagles to target ahead of training camp

The Eagles are always doing their due diligence on potential roster additions.

With training camp just 15 days away, we wonder if any of the top remaining NFL free agents would fit in Philadelphia.

The Birds are stacked at almost every position.

With so many talented players available on the open market and only many roster spots, here are the best remaining NFL free agents.

5 remaining free agents who could still help Giants in 2023

The New York Giants still have several roster needs to address and these five remaining free agents could help in 2023.

The New York Giants entered free agency with a plethora of roster holes that needed to be addressed. And for the most part, general manager Joe Schoen did precisely that.

However, with the 2023 NFL draft now less than three weeks away, several issues remain. The Giants need depth at multiple positions and are still potentially seeking starters at others.

Here are five remaining free agents the Giants could sign who would pay dividends in 2023.

15 free agents the Eagles can sign that don’t count against compensatory picks

We’re looking at 15 players the Philadelphia Eagles can sign in 2023 NFL Free Agency that won’t count against the compensatory pick formula

The NFL’s new league is less than a week away, and with the legal tampering period scheduled to start on Monday, Philadelphia will look to retool on defense, while making cost-effective decisions.

All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts and his contract is the biggest concern this offseason, but the Eagles will also need to navigate 19 looming free agents and the likelihood that they’ll lose C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Javon Hargrave and James Bradberry.

GM Howie Roseman has made it clear that he’s prepared to lose several key starters and he’ll retool via the draft with a handful of 2024 compensatory picks.

The formula is simple in nature.

If you lose more unrestricted free agents than you sign, you are eligible for that many compensatory selections. What round they come is determined by how big their contract is.

Roseman and other general managers can take advantage of the rule by signing players released before their contract expires. Those players don’t count toward the formula.

Plenty of players will be available to sign this offseason that can both help the team and not count against the formula.

Here are 15 players Philadelphia could sign that wouldn’t count against 2024 compensatory picks.

Grades for Titans cutting Lewan, Bullock, Cunningham, Woods

A grade for each of the Titans’ four roster cuts on Wednesday.

The Tennessee Titans began the process of cutting players on Wednesday with the releases of left tackle Taylor Lewan, linebacker Zach Cunningham, wide receiver Robert Woods and kicker Randy Bullock.

With the four cuts, the Titans will save a grand total of about $37.8 million, putting them under the salary cap by $12.4 million, per Over the Cap. The dead-cap hits for Woods, Bullock and Cunningham total $7.6 million.

As we outlined on Thursday, the Titans might part ways with three others in the near future, a list that includes outside linebacker Bud Dupree, offensive lineman Jamarco Jones, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

But for now, we’re looking back at Tennessee’s recent cuts and giving a grade for each (note: grades range from “A” to “F”, there are no “+” or “-” grades).

Titans’ updated list of 2023 dead-cap hits after recent cuts

Three of the four players the Titans released on Wednesday will account for dead money in 2023.

The Tennessee Titans decided to part ways with four players on Wednesday, releasing left tackle Taylor Lewan, wide receiver Robert Woods, linebacker Zach Cunningham and kicker Randy Bullock.

The Titans entered the day nearly $23 million over the cap, but after making the aforementioned cuts and clearing $37.8 million in cap space, Tennessee now sits with $12.4 million to work with, per Over the Cap.

Of course, that isn’t a ton to work with, but the Titans have more options to free up money at their disposal with the contracts of outside linebacker Bud Dupree, quarterback Ryan Tannehill and offensive lineman Jamarco Jones.

Jones will likely be cut, but Tannehill and Dupree could get cut or traded if the Titans decide not to hold on to either.

From there, Tennessee could opt to restructure or extend players in order to lower their cap hits, with Tannehill, running back Derrick Henry and safety Kevin Byard all being possibilities.

While Tennessee has shed four players from its roster, three of them will still be on the books for 2023 thanks to dead money. The only player released on Wednesday with no dead money is Lewan.

Here’s an updated list of all of the Titans’ dead-cap hits for this coming season, per Over the Cap.

Tennessee Titans releasing LB Zach Cunningham

The Titans are reportedly releasing linebacker Zach Cunningham.

The Tennessee Titans made a flurry of roster cuts on Wednesday, one of which reportedly includes linebacker Zach Cunningham.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Titans are releasing the veteran linebacker as expected, a move that will save the team nearly $9 million in cap space in 2023.

Cunningham was brought in via waivers in 2021 and made an immediate impact on the defense. However, he was slowed by injuries in 2022 and wasn’t as effective when on the field.

With Cunningham now gone, the Titans are staring down the barrel of possibly having two new starters at inside linebacker next season, as linebacker David Long is set to hit free agency.

Cunningham is the fourth cut the Titans made on Wednesday, along with left tackle Taylor Lewan, kicker Randy Bullock and wide receiver Robert Woods. With the four cuts, Tennessee is now $12.4 million under the salary cap, according to Over the Cap.

Titans most likely to get cut during 2023 offseason

Shaun Calderon gives his list of Titans players who will get the boot this offseason.

The Tennessee Titans have a massive offseason ahead of themselves.

On top of needing to hire a new general manager, offensive coordinator, offensive line coach, and secondary coach, the Titans have a plethora of decisions they have to make with their roster personnel as well.

The Titans are currently projected to be over the expected salary cap for the upcoming season, per Over the Cap.

Fortunately for Tennessee, the team has several moves it can make to get itself back in good standing prior to the free agency frenzy that starts in March.

There’s no telling how this offseason will play out, especially when we don’t even know who the general manager will be as of right now.

Nevertheless, it’s going to be a crucial and exciting offseason that will tell us a lot about the direction of the franchise.

With all that said, let’s take a closer look at some of the most notable cut candidates the team has going into the 2023 offseason (all figures are courtesy of Over the Cap).
