Lamar Stevens on Boston Celtics training camp, locking up Kevin Durant

The new Celtics forward has a real shot at having an impact on a contending ball club with his gritty, high-intensity style of play.

The Boston Celtics signed reserve forward Lamar Stevens to a training camp contract after he started 25 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers one season ago. The deal gives him no guarantees for the season ahead, but CLNS Media reporter Bobby Manning’s interview with Stevens and his trainer Henry Woo Jr. revealed that both are confident in Stevens making Boston’s roster for the storied ball club’s 2023-24 campaign and a run at Banner 18.

Manning and Stevens also talked about his summer workouts in front of famed Canadian rapper and former actor Drake, guarding NBA stars like Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, and Stevens’ shooting form compared to seasons past.

The new Celtics forward has a real shot at having an impact on a contending ball club with his gritty, high-intensity style of play — particularly if that jumper starts to fall.

Who is under pressure to make the Boston Celtics’ roster?

The Celtics are facing tough decisions about their roster and rotations.

The Boston Celtics are facing tough decisions about their roster and rotations as they have too many players in training camp and not enough floor time to go around as-is as well. Some players, particularly in the frontcourt, are under pressure to secure a spot. Luke Kornet, in particular, needs to demonstrate more toughness and defensive abilities even if it is unlikely he’d be moved or cut before the start of the season.

Other forwards like Lamar Stevens and Oshea Brissett seem more likely to stick with a clear role on the team and the motor to match the goals of the team as a contender. Meanwhile, forwards Sam Hauser and Svi Mykhailiuk are competing for floor time as well, with Hauser struggling with his shooting so far. The team is emphasizing defense again, and players who can contribute in that area are valued.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast took some to break down the situation in a recent episode.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.

Paul Pierce, Sam Cassell, and Eddie House hold impromptu 3-point shooting contest

The trio of 2008 titlists put on a show for today’s Celtics at camp.

Three legendary Boston Celtics players, Paul Pierce, Sam Cassell, and Eddie House, recently took fans down memory lane with a 3-point shooting contest joined by a few other Boston assistants during a Celtics practice session at their 2023 training camp on Thursday.

Pierce, also known as “The Truth,” is a Celtics icon who spent 15 seasons with the team. Cassell, another former Celtics star, was known for his clutch performances during his time with the team. House, a sharpshooter in his own right, played a vital role off the bench during the Celtics’ championship run in 2008. His ability to knock down 3-pointers with consistency made him a fan favorite during his time in Boston.

The shooting contest quickly caught the attention of all in the building, with even current Celtics stars pausing to watch the spectacle.

Jrue Holiday stops Jaylen Brown in his tracks on his first day with the Boston Celtics

Holiday addressed the NBA media for the first time as part of the Celtics and participated in his initial practice with the storied ball club on this past Wednesday.

New Boston Celtics floor general Jrue Holiday addressed the NBA media for the first time as part of the Celtics and participated in his initial practice with the storied ball club on this past Wednesday.

During the practice, Holiday’s impact was immediately noticeable by all in attendance. The UCLA alum demonstrated his defensive skill by stopping All-NBA forward Jaylen Brown, a notably strong player, in his tracks on one particular play. Holiday’s leadership style seems to be more reserved compared to some of the louder personalities on the team, but he is expected to lead by example on the court.

CLNS Media’s Bobby Manning and Josue Pavon share their insights on his press briefing and the championship ambiance during the session on a recent episode of the “Garden Report” podcast embedded below.

Smith: Boston Celtics sign 7-footer Kylor Kelley to exhibit 10 deal

Most likely, this signing will see Kelley land in Maine.

The Boston Celtics have reportedly signed unrestricted free agent big man Kylor Kelley to an Exhibit 10 contract per new reporting from Spotrac’s Keith Smith. A 7-foot, 26-year-old center who played his college ball for Oregon State, Kelley went unselected in the 2020 NBA draft before garnering a stint with the Austin Spurs, the G League affiliate for the San Antonio Spurs.

From there, the Utah native made the leap to play in Europe for Danish and British clubs before another stint in Austin and then last season with the Toronto Raptors’ G League affiliate, the Raptors 905.

There, Kelley put up 7.5 points per game, 5.0 rebounds, just under an assist, and 1.3 blocks per game over an average of 15.3 minutes per contest played.

The Oregon State alum shot a very efficient 62.5% from the floor overall but did not attempt a single 3-point shot, and made just 56.3% of his free throws at the G League level last season.

Most likely, this signing will see Kelley land in Maine with the Celtics’ Portland-based G League affiliate, though a strong showing could conceivably earn the 7-footer a two way spot with Boston.

Best of Boston Celtics camp invitee Wenyen Gabriel’s play in 2022-23

Gabriel has managed to carve out a niche for himself at the NBA level that could be what Boston needs after trading away big man Robert Williams III.

The Boston Celtics need some help in their frontcourt rotation, and they might have what they need in their signing of unrestricted free agent big man Wenyen Gabriel.

The 6-foot-9 native of Khartoum, Sudan is known for his elite athleticism and defense off of the bench at the NBA level. Having previously played for the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, the Brooklyn Nets, the New Orleans Pelicans, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Sacramento Kings after a solid collegiate career with Kentucky, Gabriel has managed to carve out a niche for himself at the NBA level that could be what Boston needs after trading away big man Robert Williams III.

If you aren’t familiar with his game or just want to see it again while we wait for preseason to start, take a look at the highlight clip put together below by fan videographer Tomasz Kordylewski.
