The legend of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce continues to grow, with his visibility increasing beyond the football field. Another example occurred on the golf course, of all places, featuring an iconic pop star.

World famous entertainer Justin Timberlake appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night to share an exciting experience at the 8AM Golf Invitational at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas with two Chiefs stars.

Timberlake recalled a golf tournament with Fallon, Kelce, and Patrick Mahomes for charity that had a hilarious moment — following Fallon’s successful shot on a hole, he celebrated with Timberlake only to be unexpectedly joined by the Chiefs duo.

Wynn Golf Club: How much does it cost, how to book a tee time

“I saw my life flash before my eyes; he went up and did one of those, you know, when they jump, and I was like he’s doing it,” said Timberlake, referring to Kelce’s playful ‘tackle’ celebration. “I have to do it, and I forgot that he weighs like 80 pounds more than me.”

Timberlake jokingly said he couldn’t move his neck for a week after the celebratory tackle. He also confirmed that he does text occasionally with Kelce but not at the moment because he’s busy right now, referring to the Chiefs preparing for this Sunday’s AFC Championship game.

Where to play golf around Las Vegas: Golfweek’s Best 2023 public-access courses

Thanks to Golfweek’s Best rankings, we break out the top courses around Las Vegas.

Ready to make a break from the casinos or hectic pace of the Las Vegas Strip? If you’re looking for the top golf courses around Sin City, Golfweek’s Best has you covered.

If you’re willing to drive a bit, there are several courses in this region that appear on the Golfweek’s Best rankings of top public-access layouts in Nevada. All the courses listed below are within an hour’s drive of Harry Reid International Airport, which sits adjacent to the Strip. But it’s not as easy as pulling up our state-by-state rankings, which list Nevada courses that might be a considerable drive away.

For this exercise, we used Google Maps and punched in each course as of a regular Saturday morning to determine drive times. Keep in mind that traffic near Las Vegas, especially around the Strip, can be slow – take all these times with a grain of salt.

Included with this list is a general map of where to find all these courses. Each one on the list below is represented with a number on the map – keep scrolling to see the numbers.

Included with each course is its position in Nevada on the Golfweek’s Best public-access list. For any course that appears on our other popular rankings lists, those positions are included as well.

A little background: The hundreds of members of our course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses and rate them on 10 criteria on a points basis of 1 through 10. They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce all our Golfweek’s Best course rankings.

The courses on this list allow public access in some fashion, be it standard daily green fees, through a resort or casino, or by staying at an affiliated hotel. If there’s a will, there’s a tee time – no membership required.

Collin Morikawa withdraws from Netflix golf event with same affliction that sidelined him in the past

Tony Finau will be slotted in to play for Morikawa.

Just hours ahead of the first Netflix Cup, a made-for-streaming-TV event at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, Collin Morikawa took to social media to say he’d be forced to miss the event with a back ailment.

The event will see Formula 1 drivers and PGA Tour golfers pair up to compete in a match-play tournament at the only 18-hole course on the Strip, helping kick off the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix. The match play will stream live on Netflix at 6 p.m. ET.

The other PGA Tour golfers involved are Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, and Justin Thomas. Meanwhile, F1 drivers set to compete are Alex Albon (Williams Racing), Pierre Gasly (BWT Alpine F1 Team), Lando Norris (McLaren Racing) and Carlos Sainz (Scuderia Ferrari).

Tony Finau will be slotted in to play for Morikawa, who said he tweaked his back and said he needs to prioritize his health.

Morikawa has had similar problems before, including a WD at the 2023 Memorial due to back spasms.

The 26-year-old Morikawa said his back “just kind of gave out” during a workout prior to the event in Muirfield Village, just outside Columbus.

“We were doing some reflex stuff, trying to reach down and I tried to pick something up quick and low,” Morikawa said before the event in June. “I literally have never had this in my life. I’ve hurt my back briefly before, but nothing has been this bad, especially never warming up, and never doing anything pre-round.

“I think it’s the first tournament I’ve ever withdrawn from in my entire life. It sucks because this is a tournament that I love. I’ve played well and put ourselves in contention. But I have to look out for myself and I’ve got to be smart.”

Morikawa also said he hurt his back once while in college.

“I was out for like a week. I pulled a muscle in my left side,” he told the Columbus Dispatch. “But this was just. … I crashed to the ground, just a random spasm.”

‘Netflix Cup’ to showcase PGA Tour stars against Formula 1 drivers in Las Vegas

Think of the Netflix Cup as another version of Capital One’s The Match.

Netflix will air its first live golf event next month, and stars from its two popular streaming series “Full Swing” and “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” will face off in Sin City.

Stars from both sports will face off in the ‘Netflix Cup,’ set to air Nov. 14 at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas. The course is ranked 19th on Golfweek’s Best 2023: Top 50 casino golf courses in the U.S. The drivers and golfers will pair up to compete in a match-play tournament at the only 18-hole course on the Strip, helping kick off the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix. Think of the Netflix Cup as another version of Capital One’s The Match, a made-for-TV product featuring popular athletes from numerous sports.

The Netflix Cup is a first-of-its-kind live event that showcases two of Netflix’s sports programming breakouts. “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” is now in production on its sixth season as the fandom continues to popularize the sport in the US. “Full Swing,” one of 2023’s new series, is finishing filming on a second season and is credited with a rise in PGA Tour fan engagement.

Four pairs consisting of one Formula 1 driver and one PGA Tour professional will play an eight-hole match with the top two teams advancing to the final hole, where they will battle for the chance to win the inaugural Netflix Cup title.

“The continued success of “Drive to Survive” has played a significant role in the growth of Formula 1 in the US, which has ultimately led to the addition of a third American race,” said Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer, Las Vegas Grand Prix, Inc, in a release. “It’s only fitting that we kick off our inaugural race weekend with a fun event that can be streamed by F1 and PGA Tour fans around the globe.”

Netflix to livestream ‘Full Swing’ and ‘Drive to Survive’ exhibition golf event

The exhibition is expected to be the streaming site’s first foray into live sports.

ATLANTA – Get ready for your favorite stars of Netflix’s Formula One series “Drive to Survive” and “Full Swing,” its PGA Tour version of the hit documentary-style show, to meet on The Strip in Las Vegas in a livestream celebrity golf tournament in November.

The exhibition, which will pit teams of PGA Tour players and F1 drivers in a match-play format, is expected to be the streaming site’s first foray into live sports.

In June, the Wall Street Journal first reported that talks were in the preliminary stages. This week, at the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club, Sports Business Journal’s Josh Carpenter reported that Norm Gambuzza, PGA Tour’s senior vice president of media and gaming, confirmed that a deal had been finalized. Golfweek confirmed with multiple players that the event is schedule to coincide with F1’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, scheduled for Nov. 16-18, including Collin Morikawa, who confirmed to Golfweek he is planning to play.

According to an agent who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the competition is planned for Wynn Golf Club, originally a Tom Fazio design and renovated along with his son Logan, and the only casino resort course on the Las Vegas Strip. Wynn ranks 19th on Golfweek’s Best 2022: Top 50 Casino Golf Courses.

Netflix is pursuing prominent figures from Season 1 of “Full Swing” as well as hoping to feature players prominently in Season 2, which is currently filming at the Tour Championship, the culmination of the FedEx Cup. Season 2 is expected to drop in early 2024.

Among those players who turned down the opportunity to play in the celebrity event is Jordan Spieth. He was highlighted in the debut episode but passed for good reason.

“They asked me to but it’s a super-busy time for me between having a second child and my foundation event is in the middle of it and I would’ve had to move it and we didn’t want to do that,” Spieth told Golfweek.

The PGA Tour declined to comment. Netflix did not respond to a request to comment.

Steph Curry works with Butch Harmon, Klay Thompson watches Tiger Woods videos ahead of The Match in Las Vegas

Curry and Thompson will take on Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce this Thursday at the Wynn in Las Vegas.

NBA greats Steph Curry and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors are taking on NFL legends Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs in the latest edition of The Match this Thursday at the Wynn in Las Vegas.

Mahomes teamed up with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen last time around, losing to Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Curry has also played in The Match series, losing alongside Peyton Manning to Phil Mickelson and Charles Barkley.

Although those two may have some scar tissue, their teammates are making their Match debut.

Kelce claimed he’s around a 10 handicap when talking with the media Tuesday. As for Thompson, he’s somewhere in the double digits.

Curry, on the other hand, has serious game.

He’s played on the Korn Ferry Tour, has finished inside the top 10 in two of the last three American Century Championships at Lake Tahoe and has now sought advice from one of the best golf instructors in the world.

Lynch: The Match proves golf can be a fun product, without trading virtues for vulgarity

Butch Harmon has helped the likes of Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler, and has been dubbed more of a life coach than golf coach.

Curry is hoping to implement some of Harmon’s practices when he tees it up later this week.

“For me, it’s that fine balance of not getting information overload and having 800 swing thoughts in your head,” Curry said. “Up until last summer, I never got any teaching or coaching. You have to understand how to apply whatever information you’re learning on the course, which is a totally different experience. Just trying to keep things as simple as possible.

“Butch gave me one little swing thought that I’ll probably talk about on the telecast if I hit a good shot, give him a shout-out. Just trying to build a little of confidence but not overcomplicate just being an athlete out there.”

Thompson reiterated Curry’s point of not overcomplicating things, but he did admit he’s been doing some research on YouTube.

“I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube. Last night I watched Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy’s tutorial on scoring shots. I learned some things. I’ve just been trying to pick up tips from the pros.

“Haven’t watched any basketball the last few weeks, just all golf stuff. Lots of Tiger highlights, too.”

The Curry/Thompson vs. Mahomes/Kelce battle will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday. It will be televised on TNT, truTV and HLN and streamed on Sling TV.
