West Virginia CB Beanie Bishop has top 30 visit with Commanders

Washington hosted another cornerback on a top 30 visit.

The Washington Commanders spent a considerable portion of the pre-draft process evaluating offensive tackles and cornerbacks. Washington used several of its top 30 visits on the two positions, often evaluating players who will be drafted after the first round.

We’ve learned of another cornerback Washington recently hosted on a top-30 visit. According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Commanders recently hosted West Virginia cornerback Beanie Bishop.

As noted with several of Washington’s other visitors, Bishop has high-level traits. The 5-foot-10, 184-pound Bishop has blazing speed, running a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the Big 12 pro day. The knock on Bishop is his size.

Bishop began his career at Western Kentucky, playing there for three seasons. In 2022, he transferred to Minnesota. He moved to West Virginia in 2023, looking for a more defined role. The move served Bishop well, as he led the nation in pass breakups, had four interceptions, and was named an All-American.

Bishop’s size would lead you to believe he’d play the slot in the NFL. However, he played outside at West Virginia, and that versatility will serve him well at the next level.

Bishop is viewed as a Day-3 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

UGA football offers WR Chris Henry Jr.

Adam “Pacman” Jones has adopted Chris Henry Jr. and is helping him throughout the college recruiting process

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to class of 2026 wide receiver recruit Chris Henry Jr.

Chris Henry Jr. plays high school football for Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Henry Jr. is the son of late NFL wide receiver Chris Henry. One of Chris Henry’s former teammates, Adam “Pacman” Jones, adopted Chris Henry Jr. and is helping him throughout the college recruiting process. Jones was college teammates with the elder Henry at West Virginia.

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound recruit is an unranked prospect due to his young age. Henry Jr. is already seeing a great deal of action in his recruitment.

Henry Jr. runs track for his high school. The 2026 receiver recently visited Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State and West Virginia.

Chris Henry Jr. holds recent scholarship offers from Pittsburgh, NC State, Syracuse and Michigan. The lengthy wide receiver is projected to commit to Ohio State, but it is very early in the process; he is only a freshman in high school.

The Withrow star wide receiver announced his scholarship offer from Georgia football via Twitter:

Former UGA quarterback JT Daniels announces transfer destination

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback J.T. Daniels is expected to transfer to Rice

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback J.T. Daniels is reportedly transferring to Rice. The Rice Owls made a bowl game in 2022 and finished 5-8. Daniels will look to win the starting job at Rice.

The Owls have notable games in 2023 against Houston, BYU and Texas. Daniels will likely face competition from Rice quarterback T.J. McMahon, who started 10 games in 2022 and threw 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions for the Owls.

Daniels lost the job as starting quarterback for the West Virginia Mountaineers late in the season. West Virginia went 5-7 in a disappointing season. Garrett Greene gained the starting job over Daniels because he is more mobile, which opened West Virginia’s rushing attack.

Daniels will have one or two years of eligibility at his new schools depending on if he gets an injury waiver from the NCAA. This season, Daniels threw 13 passing touchdowns, nine interceptions and 2,107 passing yards for West Virginia.

Daniels transferred from Georgia to West Virginia in early 2022. The former five-star recruit entered the transfer portal after Georgia won the national championship in January.

Daniels finished his career with an undefeated record as the starting quarterback at Georgia, but he lost his starting job to Stetson Bennett early in the 2021 college football season. Daniels battled injuries throughout his time at the University of Georgia and during much of his college football career.

Daniels missed several games during his time at Georgia after he was diagnosed with a strained oblique muscle.

Daniels transferred to Georgia from USC in 2020. He started multiple games for Georgia in 2020 and was expected to be the starting quarterback for Georgia’s 2021 season, but he struggled with injuries early in the season while Stetson Bennett proved himself a championship-caliber quarterback.

Daniels played in nine games in his Georgia football career from 2020-2021. He threw 17 touchdowns and only five interceptions during his time in Athens.

Why did West Virginia start Greene over Daniels? It is similar to why Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett got the nod over Daniels midway through 2021. Greene is more mobile and opens West Virginia’s rushing attack. Greene finished the year with 276 rushing yards. Daniels, in contrast, has never finished a season with positive rushing yards. West Virginia needed a boost in the run game, so it turned to Garrett Greene.

We will provide updates on where Daniels plans to transfer. The former five-star recruit has a lot of talent, but needs to be in an offense that does not require him to be a rushing threat.

What to watch vs. WVU: Texas is primed to avenge Saturday’s loss

Texas should bring a more focused effort this week against West Virginia.

Texas’ frustration is well documented following Saturday’s loss to Texas Tech. The frustration likely revolves around losing a game they should have won and had every opportunity to win. The Longhorns should respond this week against West Virginia.

A number of players can perform better this week. Hudson Card and Bijan Robinson committed a turnover they would certainly like to have back. Texas defenders squandered an abundance of opportunities. Even Steve Sarkisian failed to put the Red Raiders away with a bad call or two.

As you might expect, the team should have a more focused effort this week. The Longhorns will host West Virginia, whose offense has performed well all season. On the other side, the Mountaineers defense should present Texas with ample opportunities to score.

Let’s look at what to watch in Saturday’s game.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian can use sports psychology to resurrect season

Texas needs to find the urgency they had against Alabama.

The Texas Longhorns lost to an inferior opponent on Saturday. The problem wasn’t effort, execution or dedication. The problem was the Longhorns’ mindset.

Sure, the Longhorns could have executed better, but that was less glaring than the way they attacked. The Texas defense played the Texas Tech offense as if they were their equal and to be feared. Caution allowed Tech to hang around, and eventually strike the Longhorns down.

Passing game coordinator Terry Joseph and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski conceded short yardage with the goal of stopping explosive plays, waiting for the Red Raiders to make errors. Unfortunately, Texas Tech played sound football and took free yards all the way down the field.

More alarming than any of that was Texas Tech’s 75% conversion rate on fourth down. The Raiders went a staggering 6-for-8 on fourth down. Their success illustrated what happens when you give lesser teams ample opportunities to score.

The mindset needs to change. The Texas defense needs to approach every play as if it’s 4th-and-4. The offense needs to attack every drive as if they’re trailing by a touchdown.

Playing with urgency at all times could be what Texas needs to get out of this funk. If they bring focused effort against West Virginia, they can look more like the team that challenged Alabama.
