WATCH: Texans DE Charles Omenihu pushes a truck

As part of his offseason workout routine, Houston Texans DE Charles Omenihu was seen pushing a truck.

Houston Texans defensive end Charles Omenihu is upping his game for workout routines this offseason.

The former 2019 fifth-round pick from Texas was seen in a video posted to his Twitter moving a truck.

Omenihu played in 14 games for the Texans in his rookie season, producing 13 tackles, 3.0 sacks, two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and two pass breakups.

“That was a good pick and he’s done a lot of good things,” coach Bill O’Brien said of Omenihu on Dec. 17, 2019. “He’s a hard worker. He’s young, he’s still learning. I think it’s important for Charles to stay humble and hungry.

“Stay humble and hungry, Charles, because if you don’t, it’s a tough league. I think if he does that, he’ll stay on the right track.”

At the pace on Omenihu is on, he will be able to push a whole car lot. The Texans will need to get bigger and better production out of their fifth-round steal to bolster their anemic pass rush.

Broncos OL Dalton Risner shares impressive workout video on Twitter

Broncos offensive lineman Dalton Risner had no problem moving 1,500 pounds.

Denver Broncos offensive lineman Dalton Risner took to Twitter on Tuesday to share an impressive video of him pushing a sled weighing 1,500 pounds. Risner is training at TopSpeed Strength and Conditioning in Overland Park, Kansas.

Risner (6-5, 312 pounds) impressed the Broncos at the Senior Bowl last year and was then selected by Denver in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. A native of Wiggins, Colorado, Risner played college football at Kansas State before joining the Broncos’ offensive line.

As a rookie, Risner started all 16 games and was penalized just three times. After allowing 2.5 sacks, he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

Risner has quickly emerged as one of Denver’s best offensive linemen and he appears poised to remain a key piece on offense for years to come. Though the Broncos didn’t reach the playoffs last season, the team didn’t finish the year with four wins in their final five games, giving them momentum for 2020.

“[That] fired us up to have a great year next year,” Risner said Dec. 29.

Kiko Alonso shares update in his recovery from ACL surgery

New Orleans Saints linebacker Kiko Alonso ended his year with a knee injury, but he’s recovering with physical therapist Dr. Sharif Tabbah.

[jwplayer yY808HIT-ThvAeFxT]

Last summer, video of New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara’s intense workouts went viral — due as much to the world-class athleticism Kamara put on display as the creative training regiment that Dr. Sharif Tabbah designed to challenge the three-time Pro Bowler. Kamara’s results intrigued teammates like wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr., who also worked with Tabbah during the offseason.

Now in 2020, another Saints player has sought out the Miami-based physical therapist. Kiko Alonso projects to start at the strong side linebacker spot next season, but he went down with a torn ACL in the Saints’ playoff loss to the Minnesota Vikings. It’ll be tough for him to be ready to start by training camp, but Tabbah said recently that he’s been impressed with Alonso’s progres in the weeks since surgery.

Tabbah shared an Instagram video of Alonso working on his surgically-repaired knee, noting that, “It’s important to begin working on balance, stabilization and coordination and early as possible in a safe manner. Proprioception is lost after an ACL surgery but can be quickly restored when addressed appropriately!” Proprioception refers to the awareness people feel within their body, which can fade in areas that go unused following serious medical procedures.

A challenge athletes often face after surgery is the struggle to “trust” a repaired joint or limb, which makes sense considering that it’s failed them before. But training like the workout Tabbah drew up for Alonso does a lot to build confidence in the stability of his injured knee, which will allow him to play at full speed once the season kicks off in September. See it for yourself:

Saints sign another wide receiver from Antonio Brown’s group workout

The New Orleans Saints signed free agent wide receiver Maurice Harris, formerly of the Patriots and Redskins, to a reserve/futures contract.

[jwplayer 1Oql16Iv-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints signed veteran wide receiver Maurice Harris to a reserve/futures contract, as first reported by Nola.com’s Amie Just. Harris, 27, spent the 2019 offseason with the New England Patriots after starting his career with the Washington Redskins. He’s got nice size for the position at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, and has caught 40 of 65 targets (61.5%) for 432 receiving yards (10.8 yards per reception) in 28 career games, all with Washington.

Harris was also suggested as the best wide receiver at Patriots training camp last year, before his year ended on injured reserve with a vague lower-leg issue. Interestingly, he was one of the other wide receivers to participate in the Saints’ infamous late-season workout with a group of free agents including Tommylee Lewis and Antonio Brown. He joins Tim White as the only players to sign with the Saints after that tryout.

Now that he’s signed a reserve/futures contract, Harris will count against New Orleans’ 90-man offseason roster. He joins a sketchy wide receivers depth chart that includes White, Michael Thomas, Tre’Quan Smith, Deonte Harris, Emmanuel Butler, and Krishawn Hogan. Keith Kirkwood and Lil’Jordan Humphrey are exclusive-rights free agents who should stick around on minimum-salary contracts. Ted Ginn Jr. and Austin Carr are also headed for free agency, but it would be a surprise if they don’t test the open market.

Antonio Brown shares bizarre, profane music video about Saints workout

The New Orleans Saints’ Antonio Brown workout has led to another social media stunt for he free agent wide receiver, and now a music video.

[jwplayer zGvj4qmS-ThvAeFxT]

Some things are inevitable. The sun rises and sets. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. Somewhere, Antonio Brown diligently hammers another nail into the coffin of his dying NFL career.

The free agent wide receiver produced a very strange song and music video surrounding his workout with the New Orleans Saints a few weeks ago, which was his last public contact with an NFL team since the New England Patriots cut him earlier in the 2019 season. Before that, he successfully got himself released from his Oakland Raiders contract and traded away from the team that drafted and developed him, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Saints coach Sean Payton probably didn’t anticipate being featured in lyrics in Brown’s “Home From The N.O.” feature, but that’s what connecting his team to the mercurial wideout brought upon him. Brown reportedly brought a video crew with him to his Saints tryout (among other hangers-on), and now we’ve seen the results. His music video features several shots of Brown interacting with Saints players, coaches, and team personnel during his visit, as well as interior shots of the team facility. Payton probably didn’t anticipate that, either.

Interestingly, the intro to Brown’s video features a phone call with who appears to be his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The speaker on the other end of the call can be heard explaining the Saints’ interest in Brown while emphasizing how important it would be for Brown to sign with a Super Bowl-contending team, and that New Orleans is most curious to see what headspace Brown is in after getting himself run out of several towns in the last year.

After this latest stunt, it’s safe to assume he won’t be visiting New Orleans again. We’ve embedded the video below, but be warned that it includes extensive, explicit language.

Broncos OLB Von Miller in San Francisco training for 2020 NFL season

Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller is already preparing for the 2020 NFL season, working out in the Bay Area.

The Broncos’ season ended on Dec. 29, just over a week ago. Six days after Denver’s 16-15 win over the Raiders, Miller was already in the Bay Area working out, preparing for the 2020 NFL season.

Miller spoke about his plans to work out in the Bay Area on Dec. 26.

“I just want to get back to San Francisco, get back on the sand, stairs and stuff and mix that high-intensity training with basic weight room training,” Miller said last month. “I want to go to Cal and like work out in the weight room and do simple football drills and stay on the field.

“I’m going to try and mix it up with the San Francisco stuff that I’ve done in the past with traditional weight room work out.”

Miller was healthy for 15 games in 2019, totaling 46 tackles and eight sacks. That marked the first time since 2013 that he ended a season without double-digit sacks. Miller will be motivated to get back to 10-plus sacks in 2020.

Antonio Brown accuses the Saints of pulling a ‘publicity stunt’ with workout

Antonio Brown accused New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton and his staff of hosting a publicity stunt during last week’s free agent workout.

[jwplayer 7XyHXF0j-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints did not sign Antonio Brown after last week’s workout, and reports suggest they aren’t likely to add him to the team this year. Brown didn’t do much to help his case by logging onto his official Instagram account and lambasting the Saints in a live video, which was recorded and shared by Bleacher Report.

“I appreciate Sean Payton and them guys for supporting me, for bringing me out to work out but I think it was a publicity stunt for them,” Brown said in the video, which was broadcast to his 3.7 million Instagram followers. “Sean Payton knows the film that’s being left behind.”

That doesn’t really pass the smell test. For one thing, why do the Saints want or need the publicity of connecting themselves to Brown? It’s a ridiculous thing for him to suggest, especially given Payton’s notoriously fickle relationship with the media. He’s rare to give interviews or connect himself with reporters, and only shares daily Saints practice reports with local media over conference call. The last thing he wants is extra scrutiny brought down on his organization through an association with Brown.

So this probably doesn’t mean much, unless we’re putting extra weight on the opinions of a social-media obsessed football player who’s gotten himself traded once and cut twice in the last nine months. There’s no doubting Brown’s abilities and past production — and how much he could help the Saints — but this is just an example of the kind of distraction that comes with him.

And when the Saints are so close to a Super Bowl, these are factors that Payton and his staff will consider when deciding whether adding Brown would be worth it. Payton admitted it himself after Brown’s tryout when asked how much the wideout’s social media activity would be evaluated before signing him, saying, “All of that goes into a decision like that. It’s part of the process of bringing a player in.”

Saints report Antonio Brown, Tommylee Lewis among six free agent tryouts

The New Orleans Saints worked out six free agent wide receivers including Antonio Brown, Tommylee Lewis, and Maurice Harris on Friday.

[jwplayer bxIdhpR7-ThvAeFxT]

Antonio Brown may have been the most noteworthy free agent wide receiver to try out for the New Orleans Saints on Friday, but he wasn’t alone. Brown was one of six receivers the Saints put through a workout at the team practice facility, including two familiar names in Travin Dural and Tommylee Lewis.

The full list of tryout players comes from what the Saints reported on the official NFL transactions wire:

  • Antonio Brown
  • Reggie Begelton
  • Travin Dural
  • Maurice Harris
  • Tommylee Lewis
  • Tim White

Dural hung around the Saints practice squad for a few years, after initially signing with the team as an undrafted free agent out of LSU. Lewis had a more prominent role on special teams as a punt and kick returner, though he struggled to carve out a role on offense. The less said of his involvement in last year’s NFC championship game debacle the better.

Lewis was selected early in the inaugural XFL Draft by the Dallas Renegades, so he clearly has options if this Saints tryout doesn’t bare any fruit. There’s worse ways to continue playing professionally than in a Bob Stoops-designed offense with Landry Jones lobbing the ball deep downfield as often as he’ll be allowed.

An interesting addition to the free agent pool was Begelton; he was the engine fueling the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders offense in 2019, having caught 102 passes for 1,444 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. He certainly has some ability.

For now, the Saints haven’t signed Lewis, Begelton, Brown, or anyone else who attended Friday’s workout.
