Here are the NFL teams that actually attended Colin Kaepernick’s workout

A handful of NFL scouts are in attendance at the workout.

Colin Kaepernick worked out in Atlanta at a local high school football field Saturday evening.

The workout was originally supposed to happen at the Falcons facility at 3 p.m. ET but ended up being switched at the last minute to an hour later at an undisclosed location.

The shift was made because they believed the NFL asked Kaepernick to sign a waiver and refused to allow media to attend or film the tryout. Kaepernick organized his own workout just in case the league’s workout turned out to be a sham.

There was a concern the NFL personnel that were originally scheduled to attend Kaepernick’s workout at the Falcons’ facility wouldn’t show up because of the move. Hue Jackson, the coach that was supposed to conduct the workout, made his way to the airport shortly after the move.

However, despite the location change, there were still at least a handful of NFL teams in attendance. Here is a running list of the ones we know of.

Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia’s 97.5 The Fanatic is reporting that the Eagles attended.

Washington Redskins and Tennessee Titans

USA TODAY Sports’ Dan Wolken is reporting that both teams had representatives at the workout.

New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs

Per Jordan Roudrigue, the Jets and Chiefs had representatives there.

Report: Seahawks will have representative at Colin Kaepernick’s workout

Per a report, the Seattle Seahawks are among the many teams who will send a representative to Colin Kaepernick’s NFL workout on Saturday.

The Seattle Seahawks have made it very clear they are willing to look into every possible situation that could make their team better.

They supposedly had an interest in bringing in Antonio Brown this year, they were the only team to claim Josh Gordon on waivers, and they explored potential trades for Jalen Ramsey as well.

So, it should come as no surprise that the team is planning to send a representative to free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s workout, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson.

It’s also not a surprise because the league has made it clear they are pushing for each team to have someone present at the workout, even though scheduling it on a Saturday with short notice made it unlikely that top tier officials (like head coaches and general managers) will be in attendance.

Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016, when first he sat, then he kneeled, during the national anthem to protest police brutality and other social justice issues as they related to race in America.

The Seahawks were the last team to even host him on a workout, which happened back in 2017. At the time, coach Pete Carroll said they felt Kaepernick deserved a chance to start in the NFL, and since that wouldn’t happen in Seattle they decided not to bring him in.

Seattle is certainly not among the most quarterback-needy teams in the league, with Russell Wilson’s health among the best in the league and quality backup Geno Smith on call if needed.

However, the team’s connection to Kaepernick in the past makes it at least noteworthy that they’ll be in attendance, even if a partnership between the two sides seems unlikely, barring some kind of injury to Wilson or Smith.

Clark Hunt ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if Chiefs send representatives to Colin Kaepernick’s workout

Kansas City Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt spoke on Colin Kaepernick and his upcoming workout during his press conference on Wednesday.

Former San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is suddenly the talk of the football world again after the NFL arranged a private workout for him in Atlanta this weekend. Kaepernick has been away from the NFL for nearly three years in a contentious situation centered on his protests of police brutality and social injustice.

While the Kansas City Chiefs are set at the quarterback position, Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt knows general manager Brett Veach to be the diligent type. The two haven’t discussed sending a representative to the workout, but it wouldn’t come as a shock to Hunt if Veach did.

“I haven’t had a chance to speak with Brett about it yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he sent someone because Brett likes to turn over every stone,” Hunt said. “We are in a pretty good spot from a quarterback standpoint, with four on the roster right now. But Brett likes to be really thorough in his due diligence.”

Hunt was taken aback when he learned that the league would host a workout for Kaepernick. After all, it’s not commonplace for the league to get involved and provide players with workout opportunities beyond the annual scouting combine.

“I read the release from the league yesterday and I have not been a part of any discussions with the league about that happening,” Hunt said. “I was probably as surprised as anybody.”

While there have been some rumors connecting Kaepernick to the Chiefs over the past several years, Hunt was unaware of any serious discussions taking place. As for what Kaepernick might have left in the tank after being away from the game for nearly three years, Hunt expects that the workout will go a long way toward answering that question.

“It’s something that I really can’t speak to,” Hunt said. “I think every player in every situation is different. This workout will probably go part of the way towards answering that question, and that’s probably why he and his representatives wanted to do it.”

Kaepernick’s situation is about as different as they come and certainly has generated some intrigue across the league.

Sean Payton won’t be watching Colin Kaepernick’s workout

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton won’t watch Colin Kaepernick’s workout. He’s happy with Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater, and Taysom Hill.

The NFL is hurrying to put together a Saturday workout for free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who ranks twenty-third in career passing rating in NFL history but hasn’t had a team in almost three years despite training five days a week to remain game-ready. Count New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton in the camp who isn’t interested in what Kaepernick has to offer.

“I won’t pay attention because it isn’t a need for us,” Payton said during his Thursday conference call with New Orleans media, hours before Saints practice. The Saints do have depth at quarterback that would envy any team around the league; Drew Brees is one of the greatest passers of all time, while Teddy Bridgewater proved to be a starting-quality fill-in during Brees’ absence. Taysom Hill rounds out the group as someone who has made strides early in his career.

However, that depth may be temporary. None of those three quarterbacks are under contract after this season, with Brees and Bridgewater both eligible for unrestricted free agency. Hill is designated as a restricted free agent, which is a little more complicated but doesn’t guarantee he’ll return.

Payton and the Saints would be wise to evaluate all available options, but in this case they’re hedging their bets that their quarterbacks depth chart should look much the same even after new contracts for Brees, Bridgewater, and Hill are drawn up.

Now, it doesn’t mean that the Saints won’t have someone in attendance to observe Kaepernick’s workout. Payton being disinterested doesn’t mean they won’t assign a scout or personnel executive to check in. Payton previously voiced support for Kaepernick’s ability to compete in the NFL despite a prolonged absence.

“It is a little surprising that he is still available, and I don’t think he will be available too long,” Payton said back in May 2017. “I think the key is the fit and the vision for a club offensively but I think there will be a team that has that vision and has an offense that builds around some of the things he does well.”

Broncos will send a scout to Colin Kaepernick’s workout

The Broncos will send a scout to free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s workout in Atlanta.

The NFL announced Tuesday that the league is hosting a workout and interview session for free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Saturday. The workout and interview will take place in Atlanta.

All of the league’s 32 teams have been invited to the event and the Denver Broncos will be represented by a scout, general manager John Elway told KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis on Wednesday. Klis’ report was confirmed by The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.

The news is a little surprising given Elway’s tone on Kaepernick when he was asked about the QB last year.

“I said this a while ago: Colin had his chance to be here,” Elway said during a training camp press conference in August 2018. “We offered him a contract [and] he didn’t take it.”

Elway was referencing the 2016 offseason when Denver tried to trade for Kaepernick when he was still a member of the San Francisco 49ers. As part of the deal, the Broncos wanted the QB to take a significant pay cut. Kaepernick opted not to take a reduced salary.

“He had his chance to be here,” Elway said last August. “He passed [on] it.”

After missing out on Kaepernick, Denver selected Paxton Lynch in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. Lynch, Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, Case Keenum, Joe Flaco and Brandon Allen have all started games for the Broncos since then and Drew Lock might be added to the list later this year.

Kaepernick tried to prove that NFL owners colluded not to sign him in part because of his national anthem protests during the 2016 season and Elway was among league executives who were deposed in the lawsuit. The NFL reached a settlement with Kaepernick earlier this year.

Denver has been unable to find a good QB in the post-Peyton Manning era so taking a look at Kaepernick makes sense. The 32-year-old QB threw 16 touchdown passes and four interceptions in 12 games in 2016, the last year he played in the NFL. He has remained a free agent since 2017.
