Maryland basketball replaces Northwestern in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll:

After a tough overtime loss to the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday afternoon, the Wisconsin Badgers remain soundly outside the latest USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

There was some movement among Big Ten teams, as the Maryland Terrapins went undefeated this past week with wins over Northwestern and Minnesota to bring them into the poll at No. 24. The Wildcats lost two games last week, as they also fell to the Illinois Fighting Illini on the road. They subsequently dropped from No. 22 to unranked in this week’s poll.

The USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll top 10 for this week is Baylor(10), Marquette(9), Texas(8), Arizona(7), Virginia(6), Purdue(5), Kansas(4), UCLA(3), Alabama(2) and Houston(1).

The Badgers will play next against the No. 5-ranked Purdue Boilermakers at the Kohl Center on Thursday night.

How to watch Wisconsin basketball on the road against the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday afternoon:

The Wisconsin Badgers play the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday afternoon, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Badgers are coming off of a thrilling victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes and will need to continue winning against the Wolverines to boost their tournament resume. The scoring of Wisconsin guard Connor Essegian will be vital since he has been the Badgers’ leading scorer in their last two victories including against Michigan in their 64-59 win.

The Badgers will also need a big game from forward Steven Crowl, who will be matching up against Michigan’s Hunter Dickinson who has been one of the best centers in the Big Ten this season. Hopefully, he will have help in the paint from Wisconsin forward Tyler Wahl who had a double-double in the Badgers’ win over Iowa.

It should be an exciting game to watch between the Big Ten rivals as they both battle to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.

Former Badger Brian Butch delivers a postgame message to Wisconsin basketball

After Wednesday’s win over Iowa, Wisconsin welcomed back a familiar face to the locker room. Brian Butch, who was a Badger big man from 2004-08, returned to tell Wisconsin players just how much it means to be a Badger.

He was a first-team All-Big Ten selection as a senior in 2008. He went on to a long professional career overseas and is the radio color commentator for the Wisconsin Herd, the Badger State’s G-League team.

Butch was last night’s honorary captain during Wisconsin’s win. Here is a look at his postgame speech after a needed win for the Badgers over Iowa:

Photos from Wisconsin basketball’s lockdown victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Wednesday night:

On Wednesday night, the Wisconsin Badgers limited the Iowa Hawkeyes, the highest-scoring team in the Big Ten, to 32.3 percent shooting from the field and only 52 points in their 12-point victory at the Kohl Center.

Wisconsin freshman guard Connor Essegian rebounded from his 0-10 shooting performance against Rutgers with 17 points and five rebounds against the Hawkeyes. Essegian was the Badgers’ leading scorer, but forward Tyler Wahl may have been the player of the game as he limited Iowa star Kris Murray to only five points, while finishing with 11 points and 14 rebounds of his own.

The Badgers will continue to try and keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive when they match up against the Michigan Wolverines on the road on Sunday afternoon.

How to watch the Wisconsin Badgers against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Wednesday night:

The Wisconsin Badgers play the Iowa Hawkeyes on Wednesday night, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

After a tough loss against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday, the Badgers hope to get back on track with a win over the Hawkeyes at the Kohl Center. Wisconsin got the best of Iowa in their first matchup in December; however, the Hawkeyes were missing their leading scorer forward Kris Murray.

A key matchup to watch in this game will be between Wisconsin forward Tyler Wahl and Murray. Wahl has struggled since his return from an ankle injury in mid-January, but his defense will be needed to slow down Iowa’s leading scorer and its fast-paced offense.

It should be a great game to watch as the Badgers will attempt to sweep the season series and continue to work their way into the NCAA Tournament picture.

PHOTOS: Wisconsin basketball takes down Michigan 64-59

Photos from Wisconsin basketball’s 64-59 victory over the Michigan Wolverines at the Kohl Center.

On Tuesday night, the Wisconsin Badgers took down the Michigan Wolverines in a 64-59 back-and-forth victory at the Kohl Center. The Badgers contained Michigan center Hunter Dickinson on the defensive side of the ball and were led by a career-high 23-point night from freshman guard Connor Essegian on offense.

Essegian’s career shooting night, surprisingly, was not his best game from the three-point line with him going 2-7 from deep. Instead, Wisconsin’s true freshman guard took advantage of the Wolverines’ poor help defense off of screens and was able to force fouls as he drove to the basket. He converted nine of his ten free throws with five coming in the last minute to help the Badgers close out the game.

Wisconsin will continue its home stretch with another crucial game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday morning.
