Jameis Winston explains why he likes his Saints helmet

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston took to Instagram to show fans an up close image of him in his new helmet.

Jameis Winston will still be a quarterback in the NFC South this season… just not with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The former No. 1 overall pick by the Bucs was shown the door after Tampa Bay was able to lure Tom Brady away from the New England Patriots. Winston landed with the rival Saints, where he will sit behind Drew Brees on a one-year deal.

The new Saints quarterback recently went on Instagram to post an up close picture of him in his new helmet, and let people know what he likes about it.

Sure it looks good, but it still feels strange seeing Winston in an NFL helmet that isn’t the Bucs.

Best of luck to the QB in the future and beyond! Hopefully, he’ll get his shot to start again at some point down the road. I mean, the guy threw for over 5,000 yards in a season! Only seven other players besides Winston have ever accomplished that feat.

Jameis Winston hands out meals to the Tampa community

Saints quarterback Jameis Winston was out and about in Tampa yesterday handing out meals to help those during the coronavirus crisis.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have moved on from quarterback Jameis Winston, but the former number one overall pick isn’t moving on from Tampa.

Winston saw his five-year run with the Bucs come to an end this offseason after they signed six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady in free agency. Winston recently landed in New Orleans, agreeing to a one-year deal to sit and learn behind veteran Drew Brees.

But despite finding a new team in a new city, Winston still intends to make Tampa his home, and was out and about in the community yesterday handing out meals to help those in need during the coronavirus crisis.

Take a look.

Jameis Winston and Saints reach one-year deal

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has agreed to a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has finally found a new home, as he and the New Orleans Saints came to terms on a one-year deal that will have Winston join a quarterback group that includes Drew Brees and Taysom Hill.

It was reported over the weekend that Winston and the Saints were working on a deal, but today the news became official.

Winston was displaced in Tampa Bay this offseason after Tom Brady signed with the Buccaneers. The former number one overall pick had been on the market for over a month, and now finds himself in a situation where he gets to learn behind one of the best quarterbacks ever in Brees. Plus, he’ll get a chance to take on the new-look Bucs twice next year. Well, his Saints will at least.

I’m sure news of the official signing has Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan jumping for joy right about now.

NFC scout says Winston is hindered by ‘previous transgressions’

Quarterback Jameis Winston remains unsigned, and one NFC scout has a theory why.

A month into NFL free agency, and quarterback Jameis Winston still finds himself on the open market.

After watching Winston throw for 5,109 yards, 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in 2019, Bruce Arians decided to see what was behind door number two in free agency. And, wouldn’t you know it, it was Tom Brady.

Winston has kept active on social media to show teams he is still in peak condition and ready to play. But for one reason or another, he’s yet to find a new team to call his own.

Bucky Brooks at NFL.com examined the best team fits for Winston — the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys — but what was interesting was what one NFC scout told him, which is that Winston’s off-the-field issues from his past may be hurting his chances of being signed.

Per the scout:

“Winston is hindered by his turnovers and previous transgressions. If you were worried about his mistakes and character during his pre-draft evaluation, you have enough evidence to move on from him at the moment. … He’s a talented player but those mistakes still hang over his head and make it hard for some teams to pull the trigger.”

Winston’s past has been well documented, and while the quarterback seems like a changed man now (for the better), those mistakes definitely give teams cause for concern.

Ultimately, Winston will likely be delegated to a backup role in 2020, though if he picks the right team that could pay dividends in the long run. Once this week’s draft is over and the new crop of quarterbacks find teams, we may have a better idea of where Winston could end up.

It’s always family first for Jameis Winston

Former Bucs QB Jameis Winston posted the perfect family picture on his Instagram recently.

Regardless of how you feel about former Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, there’s no denying the fact that his teammates loved and respected him. Even though he won’t be a part of the Bucs in 2020, his presence in the locker room will certainly be missed.

While Winston still remains without a home a month into free agency, he’s still keeping his head up. With social distancing preventing him from going to the gym, he’s been finding ways to stay active at home, which means more time with his family, including his lovely new bride and son.

Take a look at Winston’s recent Instagram post, which looks like the perfect picture of the All-American family, dog and all.

Now here’s a workout Jameis Winston can be proud of

Former Bucs QB Jameis Winston is still putting in the time and effort to keep himself game-ready for when an NFL team comes calling.

Yesterday, former Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston showed the world a rather unusual workout that had many people scratching their heads, especially former NFL QB David Carr.

Jokes aside, there’s no denying that Winston is putting in the work this offseason to prove to himself and the rest of the NFL that he can still be a starter in this league. While he currently remains unsigned, that hasn’t stopped him from training day in, day out.

Yesterday, he also posted to his Instagram story several videos of him and his lovely new wife working out together. And, as you can see from some of the screenshots below, their little son was there, too, to cheer them on.

Now that’s a workout Winston can be proud of. Hopefully, he’ll be able to train with a new NFL team in the near future.

Jameis Winston posts motivational message on Instagram amid coronavirus pandemic

Former Bucs QB Jameis Winston took to his Instagram recently with an inspiring message for people in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

The coronavirus pandemic is affecting people around the world. With much of society quarantined or practicing social distancing, it’s a hard time for people and families alike.

Often times we’ve turned to sports as a way of comfort and escape during times of stress, but even professional athletes are finding themselves in the midst of this crisis.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, who himself is dealing with the pandemic situation while also trying to find a new NFL team now that Tom Brady is the man in Tampa , took to his Instagram the other day to try and inspire hope in people and keep them going.

Take a look.

Winston may not be the man in Tampa Bay anymore, but he’s still keeping his head high and maintaining a positive attitude. Some of his former Bucs teammates have even said they refrained from celebrating the Brady signing initially on social media out of respect for their former quarterback.

Marc Sessler calls Jameis Winston the ‘riskiest free agent of 2020’

See why Marc Sessler over at NFL.com thinks Jameis Winston could be a risky acquisition for any team.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t been to the postseason since 2007, but given all the chatter surrounding the club as we approach free agency, you’d think they were already Super Bowl favorites heading into 2020.

That’ll happen when a guy like Tom Brady is linked to your team. While Tampa Bay can still opt to bring Jameis Winston back, those 30 interceptions make it hard to justify paying the former number one overall pick, even if it is just on a one-year deal.

Winston could very well be done in Tampa Bay, and according to Marc Sessler over at NFL.com, Winston is the riskiest free agent of 2020. Even if the Bucs don’t bring him back, Sessler thinks it will be hard for the former Heisman Trophy winner to find work as a starter in 2020.

Per Sessler:

“With a record-setting seven pick-sixes in 2019, Winston appears to be done in Tampa — with the Bucs reportedly hot to trot for Brady — and realistically out of rope as a starting NFL quarterback. No franchise can sell Winston as a QB1 due to his perilous ball security. The risk is reduced in a backup role, but that scenario screams for some under-fire coach turning to Jameis in, say, Week 7 — and suffering the consequences.”

If Winston is destined to be a backup in 2020, there are several experts, including Peter King of NBC Sports, who feel he could benefit from sitting for a year behind a guy like Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh. Winston would get a chance to learn from Big Ben — another Bruce Arians protege — and inherit the starting job once Ben calls it a career. Plus, he’d be coached by Mike Tomlin, one of the most respected, no-nonsense coaches in the league.

It might not be the ideal situation for Winston in the short term, but long term, it could pay big dividends.

The case for the Bucs signing free agent RB Derrick Henry

See why Scott Spratt of Football Outsiders thinks the Buccaneers should make a run at free agent running back Derrick Henry.

While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be busy in Indianapolis this week with the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine, free agency is just around the corner, meaning teams will have to open their checkbooks if they want to lure (or keep) prized players.

The Bucs are one of those teams who will have several tough financial decisions to make in the coming weeks. Their defensive front seven could be diminished significantly if guys like Ndamukong Suh, Jason Pierre-Paul or Shaq Barrett were to walk. While Bruce Arians seems to think it’s realistic to keep the defense together, only time will tell which players will get paid and which don’t.

But, according to Scott Spratt of Football Outsiders, one bold move the Bucs should consider in free agency is signing running back Derrick Henry away from the Tennessee Titans to help Jameis Winston. Henry led the league in rushing this past season with 1,540 yards to go along with his 16 rushing touchdowns, tied for most in the NFL.

Per Spratt:

“Henry would make Jameis Winston’s life easier (assuming the Bucs retain their quarterback), and not just because of his rushing efficiency putting Winston in better down-and-distance situations. Henry was the centerpiece of a Titans offense that tied for sixth in play-action percentage. Winston enjoyed tremendous success with play-action in 2019, throwing for 3.6 more yards per attempt than on his traditional throws. With Henry, the Bucs might be convinced to ramp up their play-action usage from their bottom-three rate of 18%.”

Winston or no Winston, the idea of adding Henry is sure to excite Bucs fans. The offense would add a whole new dimension with a dynamic player like him in their backfield. Signing Henry might be a long-shot, but it’s definitely a risk Tampa Bay should make.
