Rain no longer expected in chilly Jaguars vs. Browns game

It should be a chilly, but not brutally cold day in Cleveland when the Jaguars take on the Browns.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ road game against the Cleveland Browns won’t be warm, but at least it won’t be wet.

For most of the week, weather forecasts projected it’d be a rainy day in Northeast Ohio on Sunday. The showers came early with a rainy day Saturday, leaving little chance of precipitation for the Week 14 game at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

According to Cleveland area meteorologist Matt Wintz, it should be dry day with temperatures in the high 30s for the game.

Other forecasts have indicated it could get into the low 40s with very little chance of rain.

While it’s the coldest game of the season for Jacksonville, it’s far from the kind of brutal weather that the Midwest can sometimes offer in December and January. The Jaguars once traveled to Cleveland for a January 2010 game that was 16 degrees at kickoff.

All 10 of the coldest games in Jaguars history were on the road.

Rain in Pittsburgh forecast for Jaguars vs. Steelers in Week 8

The Jaguars will need to take better care of the football than they did during a rainy disaster against the Eagles in 2022.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are likely to play in the rain for the first time in the 2023 season.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s about a 90 percent chance of rain in Pittsburgh on Sunday when the Jaguars will face the Steelers in a road game at Acrisure Stadium.

So far in 2023, the Jaguars have played two games indoors (Lucas Oil Stadium and Caesars Superdome) and otherwise in sunny and often hot conditions.

Against a Steelers team that struggles to run or defend the run, and relies heavily on the talented pass rushing duo of T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith, a wet day in Pittsburgh could actually prove advantageous for the Jaguars. But only if the team does better with ball security than it did during a rainy day in Philadelphia a year ago.

In a 29-21 loss to the Eagles, the Jaguars turned the ball over five times with quarterback Trevor Lawrence fumbling away four possessions on his own.

Lawrence has fumbled six times through seven games in the 2023 season. Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett has yet to fumble in six starts this year.

Light snow expected throughout Jaguars vs. Chiefs playoff game

The snow is falling in Kansas City and it doesn’t look like it’ll stop anytime soon.

When the NBC’s pregame broadcast began for a Divisional Round matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, the snow was already falling. That’s not expected to end any time soon.

Light flurries of snow are in the forecast in Kansas City, Mo. until the evening long after the game is likely over. If it’s not snow falling, icy rain could be part of the game too.

The Jaguars have dealt with a little bit of adverse conditions during the 2022 season, enduring a cold, rainy, and windy day in Philadelphia early in the season during a game against the Eagles. Their win last week against the Los Angeles Chargers was among the coldest in TIAA Bank Field history.

Still, snow games have been few and far between for the franchise. And that kind of weather hasn’t seemed to bother Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes one bit in the past.

Oddsmakers have expected a high-scoring game at Arrowhead Field with the total at BetMGM set at 53 points.

Snow flurries possible in Jaguars vs. Chiefs playoff game

It’ll be another cold one on Saturday with some snow possible.

The Jacksonville Jaguars won a chilly home game against the Los Angeles Chargers over Wild Card Weekend and will likely play in even colder conditions in the Divisional Round.

Early forecasts for Saturday say snow flurries are possible for the Jaguars’ playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

As of Wednesday, The Weather Channel says there’s an 80 percent chance of snow in Kansas City on Saturday with a high of 38 degrees and a low of 29.

Local meteorologists in Kansas City are saying the same:

The Jaguars’ 31-30 win against the Chargers was officially recorded at 45 degrees at kickoff, but dipped into the 30s before the end of the game.

The coldest playoff game in Jaguars history was the team’s 45-42 win on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers in January 2018 with the temperature at kickoff recorded at 18 degrees. Jacksonville also beat the Steelers in a snowy playoff game in January 2008.

Jaguars prepping for rough weather at MetLife Stadium

The Jaguars say they’re ready for rough conditions Thursday night.

The Jacksonville Jaguars won’t be playing in sunny Florida conditions when they face the New York Jets on Thursday night.

As of now, weather forecasts are projecting temperatures to be in the 40s at kickoff with chances of rain over 80 percent. High winds are also possible in East Rutherford, N.J. on Thursday.

“They’ve gotta play in it too,” Jaguars linebacker Foye Oluokun told 1010XL’s Mia O’Brien on Tuesday. “It’s gonna be a muddy game, gritty game. That’s the kind of game we like — gritty, not pretty. Just expect that kind of physical football that that weather brings. We’ll have our mindset ready for that.”

The Jaguars have mostly avoided rough weather this season. The notable exception was a wet, windy game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4 that proved to be disastrous for Trevor Lawrence, who fumbled four times and threw an interception in the 29-21 loss.

“We understand that we kind of had our own self-inflicted issues in Philly in terms of our ball security,” Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor said Tuesday. “That’s just something we’ve been aware of, we’ve tried to emphasize that. Every single week we’ve gone in, we’ve played games where there’s expected rain. Whether that was home games or on the road. That’s certainly something we’re aware of, we understand that we have to do a better job than we did.”

After that loss to the Eagles, Taylor told reporters that the team would talk to Lawrence about potentially wearing gloves in future rainy games. But the Jaguars may be hesitant to change much about Lawrence’s game considering he’s thrown 14 touchdowns and only one interception in his last six games.

Scattered thunderstorms possible for Colts vs. Jaguars in Week 2

Scattered thunderstorms could arrive in Jacksonville before the end of the Jaguars’ Week 2 game against the Colts.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ season opener against the Washington Commanders looked like it had the potential to be a rainy day, but that never came to fruition at FedEx Field.

Now, the Jaguars’ home opener against the Indianapolis Colts also has a chance at being a wet one.

Thunderstorms are in the weather forecast for Jacksonville, Fla. later Sunday, and scattered storms could arrive in the early afternoon before the Week 2 game is over.

Accuweather says there’s 40-60 percent chance of rain between 1 and 4 p.m. ET, while The Weather Channel puts the chances around 25-55 percent.

TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville uses grass, so any light showers shouldn’t have too much of an effect on the game.

2022 PGA Championship weather: Day-by-day forecast for Southern Hills

It won’t be as hot at Southern Hills this week as it was in 2007 for the PGA Championship.

TULSA, Okla. — It won’t be as hot at Southern Hills Country Club this week as it was in 2007.

Southern Hills hosts its fifth PGA this week, beginning Thursday. The last time the tournament was held in Tulsa, it was the hottest major championship on record. That year, it was contested in August.

That won’t be the case this time around.

Temperatures should be much cooler, especially during the weekend rounds because of a cold front expected to come through the area late Friday, according to weather.com. The wind direction is also forecasted to be different every day.

Thursday will be the hottest day of the week, with temperatures likely reaching 91 degrees with a south wind between 10 and 20 miles per hour.

Friday’s weather is similar, with highs reaching 89 and southwest winds blowing between 15 and 25 miles per hour. In the afternoon and evening, however, is when winds shift to out of the northeast and temperatures drop into the 60s.

Saturday, the high is only 63 degrees with winds 10 to 20 miles per hour out of the north and a slight chance of rain in the morning. Sunday’s final rounds looks spectacular, with a high of 72 and 10 to 15 miles per hour winds out of the east.

The change in winds will present a different challenge every day for the golfers, but overall, the weather is looking to be spectacular.

Forecast for tournament days

Thursday: High of 91, winds S at 10-20

Friday: High of 89, winds SW at 15-25, changing to NE at 10-15 by evening

Saturday: High of 63, winds N at 10-20, 30 percent chance of rain

Sunday: High of 72, winds E at 10-15

Chance of rain, snow for Chiefs vs. Broncos Week 18 game

The #Chiefs and #Broncos could be playing in wet conditions with slight chances of snow and rain at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos could be playing in wet conditions when they face off at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium on Saturday.

Save for an early-season thunderstorm that caused a weather delay against the Buffalo Bills at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs have managed to stay dry in their games this season. Typically, this time of year, you’re seeing what’s commonly referred to as “football weather.” K.C. has mostly avoided bad weather so far this season, but that could all change this weekend when they hit to road to play the Broncos.

Local forecasts in Denver have slight chances of either rain or snow for Saturday’s game. A compilation of multiple forecasts calls for anywhere from a high of 45 degrees and a low of 27 degrees for Saturday’s game. Expect to see partly cloudy skies with estimations of anywhere between a 14% and 46% chance of precipitation. It’s possible the weather misses the game altogether, but it’s also possible they could see things get wet down on the field during the course of the game. That’s when ball security will become a big emphasis for both teams.

As for kicking conditions, there shouldn’t be too many problems in that department. Winds are predicted to be coming from the south of the stadium, ranging from five to nine miles per hour, with gusts up to 15 miles per hour. That means when teams face the north endzone, between the thin air at Mile High and the wind at their back, the kickers should have some pretty impressive range.

Should it snow, Chiefs fans shouldn’t fret. Patrick Mahomes is a self-proclaimed “snow-game guy” and he has a history of playing some of his best games in poor weather conditions. There was snow on the ground last October when the team traveled to Denver and the Chiefs walked away with a 43-16 victory over the Broncos.

If you’re planning to attend the game, it’s a safe bet to dress warm and bring a poncho just in case.

Weather forecast for Dolphins’ Week 2 matchup versus Bills

Weather forecast for Dolphins’ Week 2 matchup versus Bills

The Miami Dolphins are going to be putting their homefield advantage to the test in Week 2 of the 2021 NFL regular season. When Miami faced off against the Buffalo Bills in Week 17 to close down the 2020 regular season, Buffalo’s homefield advantage as a cold-weather team in January was absolutely a factor that helped the game get off the rails.

Now is the time to return the favor. The forecast in South Florida for Sunday afternoon calls for plenty of heat and even more humidity.

Location: Hard Rock Stadium — Miami Gardens, FL
Kickoff: 1:05 PM EST

  • High Temperature: 87 degrees
  • Percent rain: 40%
  • Humidity: 66%
  • Feels like: 97 degrees
  • Wind: 7 mph

Meanwhile, Buffalo has had just two days in the past two weeks combined that have featured a high temperature greater than 80 degrees. Miami’s recipe for a successful game against the Bills is going to need a dozen variables to go right — but getting out in front of the Bills early and keeping pressure applied as the Bills strain against both the weather conditions and Miami’s efforts to win the game could be the ticket to draining Buffalo’s energy reserves sooner rather than later and cracking the code against the Bills.

Of course, Miami had much of this script come together last year — the team entered the fourth quarter with a narrow lead before crumbling over a 10-minute stretch of the final mark to cough up the game; highlighted by a deep 3rd-down conversion by QB Josh Allen to score what would eventually be the deciding points.

The Dolphins have to hope their offseason efforts are enough to create a different outcome this time around; but at least we know the weather is set to do its part to help craft a Dolphins win and push South Florida football fans into a frenzy to start the 2021 season.

Weather forecast for Dolphins’ Week 15 matchup versus Patriots

The Miami Dolphins will be home once again this weekend for another showdown against a west coast team.

The Miami Dolphins are set to play their final home game of the season tomorrow afternoon against their hated rivals, the New England Patriots. This will serve as a rematch between these two teams from Week 1 of the 2020 season and while Miami would have loved to get their chance to welcome New England to the hot, sticky confines of Hard Rock Stadium in early September, getting New England this late in the game will undoubtedly still keep the Dolphins’ climate in South Florida on the forefront of everyone’s minds.

How much of an issue does the weather figure to be tomorrow afternoon? The good news is there’s not much rain in the forecast, which means the Dolphins won’t be forced to play ground and pound with the Patriots. Given that approach plays into the Patriots’ hands, the Dolphins can rest easy knowing that won’t be a forced audible to the game plan.

But what about the rest of the forecast? Here’s the latest update for tomorrow’s kickoff:

Location: Hard Rock Stadium — Miami Gardens, FL
Kickoff: 1:00 PM EST

  • High Temperature: 79 degrees
    • Feels like: 82 degrees
  • Percent rain: 10%
  • Humidity: 62%
  • Wind: 9 mph

The high in Foxborough, Massachusetts today is 34 degrees — and the high since Monday is 39. So this will be a big temperature shift for New England and could potentially play a factor in conditioning towards the end of the game. And with the Patriots playing a “grind it out” style of football, knowing that they may be out of gas come crunch time is a helpful boost to the Dolphins’ cause. Of course, Miami will need to keep things close for much longer than that in order to see them positioned to wear out the Patriots. But there’s little reason to think that the home field advantage the Dolphins are set to enjoy is going to be anything less than a very real variable in tomorrow’s contest.
