A former Clemson star has signed with a new NFL team.

The Atlanta Falcons announced they have signed former Tiger running back Wayne Gallman.

Gallman was released by the San Francisco 49ers earlier this week after signing a one-year deal with the team earlier this year.

Gallman spent the past four seasons with the New York Giants after being selected by the franchise in the 4th round (140th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Last season, Gallman rushed for 682 yards and six touchdowns on 147 carries while filling in for the injured Saquon Barkley. He also caught 21 passes for 114 yards.

In four seasons with the Giants, Gallman totaled 1,444 yards rushing and nine touchdowns on 338 attempts, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.

Gallman left Clemson after three seasons as one of the school’s most decorated and productive running backs in history, producing 3,429 rushing yards on 676 carries, with 34 touchdowns over 42 games (37 starts) from 2014-16. The Loganville, Ga., native added 65 career receptions for 473 yards and two touchdowns.

Falcons sign RB Wayne Gallman, release Qadree Ollison

On Thursday, the Falcons signed running back Wayne Gallman and released Qadree Ollison.

The Atlanta Falcons are changing things up at the running back position just two days after releasing their first 53-man roster. On Thursday, the team signed former New York Giants running back Wayne Gallman and released Qadree Ollison.

Gallman is the more accomplished back of the two, playing with the New York Giants for the past four seasons and rushing for 1,444 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding 80 catches, 498 receiving yards and two additional scores.

Last year, Gallman rushed for a career-best 682 yards and six touchdowns on 4.6 yards per carry. He got extended time once Saquon Barkley went down with a season-ending injury.

Ollison, a fifth-round pick out of Pittsburgh back in 2019, was entering his third season and finally appeared to be in line for meaningful reps. In 11 career games with the Falcons, Ollison rushed 23 times for 53 yards and four touchdowns.

6 49ers to watch on offense in 2nd preseason game vs. Chargers

Here’s who we’re watching Sunday when the #49ers offense is on the field vs. the Chargers.

The 49ers’ starting and second-string offenses left something to be desired in their preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. Bouncing back won’t be particularly easy against a talented Los Angeles Chargers defense in the second preseason contest.

San Francisco has a slew of roster battles waging as training camp begins to wind down, and performances in these last couple preseason games could play a big role in deciding who wins those competition.

Here’s who we’ll be keeping a close eye on when the 49ers’ offense is on the field Sunday against the Chargers:

PODCAST: Why trading back makes sense for the Giants

On the latest Giants Wire Podcast we discuss why it makes sense for the New York Giants to trade back in the 2021 NFL draft.

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman and assistant general manager Kevin Abrams met with the media earlier this week and it was an interest contrast in personalities.

But what information was learned during the Zoom conference? Why trading back in the 2021 NFL draft makes sense for the Giants, and with Big Blue’s 2021 win total over/under set at 7, where would we place our bets?

Oh, and Wayne Gallman — the Wayne Train — is on the move.

Those topics (and more) are discussed in the latest episode of the Giants Wire Podcast, which is hosted by Ryan O’Leary (@RyanOLearySMG on Twitter) and joined by site editor Dan Benton (@DanBentonGW).

49ers add depth through a couple free agency moves

The San Francisco 49ers added a couple depth pieces at key positions going into the NFL draft with RB Wayne Gallman and DE Arden Key.

Running back Wayne Gallman and defensive end Arden Key both visited the 49ers on Tuesday, and on Wednesday reports surfaced both players will join the club.

Gallman’s signing was officially announced by the club. The Giants’ 2017 fourth-round pick will give some veteran depth in the backfield. Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. are the only players on the roster with significant NFL carries under their belt. Gallman in four seasons with New York had 338 carries, 1,444 yards (4.3 YPC) and nine rushing touchdowns.

Key’s signing hasn’t been made official, but NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported the Raiders’ 2018 third-round pick will sign with the club after being waived by Las Vegas in mid-April.

The former two-time First-Team All-SEC selection saw his once top-five draft stock plummet throughout his final college season. He went from among the draft’s top defensive players to a late Day 2 choice.

His high upside as a prospect didn’t bear any fruit for the Raiders. In three years with the club he posted 3.0 sacks and 26 quarterback hits in 37 games. The 49ers have shown a willingness the last couple years to take risks on high-upside free agents who haven’t had a ton of success in the NFL. Key will get a chance to compete for a rotational spot at a position where the 49ers desperately need some quality depth.

Former Giants RB Wayne Gallman signs with 49ers

Wayne Gallman is headed to the West Coast.

Running back Wayne Gallman, who was apparently not part of the New York Giants’ future plans, has signed a free agent deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

Gallman was a fourth round pick of the Giants out of Clemson back in 2017 and had an up-and-down ride in Blue, seeing significant playing time as a rookie under head coach Ben McAdoo but then falling out of favor under Pat Shurmur’s staff the next two seasons.

Last year, the Giants turned to Gallman after star running back Saquon Barkley was lost for the season in Week 2 with a torn ACL. Gallman rushed for 682 yards and six touchdowns while catching 21 passes.

The Giants are expecting Barkley to make a full recovery and be their bell-cow back again this season. They also added journeyman Devontae Booker to the roster in free agency.

Details of Gallman’s deal with San Francisco are still forthcoming.

Report: 49ers bring former Giants RB in for visit

The San Francisco 49ers hosted free agent RB Wayne Gallman as they look for running back depth on their roster.

The San Francisco 49ers are set to host former Giants running back Wayne Gallman for a free agent visit according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Gallman is coming off the best season of his career when he started 10 games in place of Saquon Barkley, who tore his ACL in Week 2. The former fourth-round pick of the Giants racked up 4.6 yards per carry and six touchdowns on 147 totes. He also caught 21 balls for 114 yards.

Prior to last year, Gallman wasn’t much of a factor for New York. In his first three seasons he had 191 carries for 762 yards (4.0 yards per carry) and three touchdowns.

The 49ers need some help in their backfield. Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. are both expected to lead the way for that group, but injuries ravaged the 49ers’ running back room last year. Added depth in the form of a veteran who’s averaging 4.3 yards per carry in his career would be helpful to a depth chart that lacks experience.
