C.J. Ham is headed to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games

C.J. Ham is headed to the 2024 Pro Bowl games!

Minnesota Vikings fullback C.J. Ham is headed to Orlando to participate in the 2024 Pro Bowl Games.

Ham will replace San Francisco’s Kyle Juszczyk, who will play in Super Bowl LVIII. This will be Ham’s second Pro Bowl selection, his first following his 2019 season.

A hometown kid from Duluth, Minnesota, Ham has been a staple for the Vikings since signing as an undrafted free agent following the 2016 draft. Since then, Ham has made his mark on the Vikings franchise, being voted a team captain for a third time and playing in over 100 games for the purple and gold.

“It’s such an honor to go back to the NFL Pro Bowl Games and represent the Vikings with my guys, Andrew [DePaola] and Danielle [Hunter]…In this league, to even be considered for this game is a huge honor that I definitely don’t take lightly.”

Fans can cheer on Ham, DePaola and Hunter throughout the week as the Pro Bowl Games will air their Skills Showdown on Thursday, February 1 at 6 p.m. CST (ESPN) and the Pro Bowl Games Championship on Sunday at 2 p.m. CST (ESPN, ABC, Disney XD, ESPN+, ESPN Deportes and NFL+)

Two Vikings make the 2024 NFL Pro Bowl, six are alternates

Two players will represent the Minnesota Vikings at the 2024 Pro Bowl Games while six others were honored as alternates.

The NFL recently unveiled their 2024 NFL Pro Bowl Games with the following Minnesota Vikings making the cut:

  • OLB Danielle Hunter
  • LS Andrew DePaola

The Vikings also have six alternates, ranging from first to fourth at their respective positions.

The number of players may seem lower than usual, especially with wide receiver Justin Jefferson not being a part of the festivities due to injury. However, the Vikings are well-represented in that those who were selected, alternate or otherwise, certainly deserved it.

Here are the 2024 representatives (and alternates) for your Vikings.

Vikings and fullback C.J. Ham agree to two-year extension

International Football Agency (IFA) announced that the Minnesota Vikings and fullback C.J. Ham have agreed to a two-year extension.

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a two-year extension with fullback C.J. Ham, according to his representation, the Institute For Athletes.

Ham was due a $2.95 million base salary this season and would’ve had a $3.8 million cap hit, according to Over The Cap. While the details of his extension have yet to be released, this move will likely clear cap space for the Vikings.

Since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2016, Ham has been a key contributor to the Vikings, bringing versatility and leadership to the locker room while contributing to the offense and special teams units.

Last season, in his first year with new head coach Kevin O’Connell, Ham wasn’t used as much as in years past. As the offseason has progressed, the Vikings have shown with their signings that they are committed to the run for the 2023 season.

10 Vikings who could be salary cap casualties

The Vikings will have some hard decisions to make with the salary cap

With the Minnesota Vikings season over, it’s time to face realities about where this team is going.

The Vikings decided to go somewhat all-in on making the 2022 team competitive for a playoff spot and they won the NFC North division title. Unfortunately, they now sit in a less-than-ideal spot with the salary cap. They are projected to be $24,431,507 over the salary cap for next season.

In order to get under the salary cap and make some moves in free agency, the Vikings will have to get creative. Here are 10 players they can cut to make their salary cap situation better.

How fullbacks are valued (and devalued) in today’s NFL

Touchdown Wire’s Laurie Fitzpatrick discusses the fullback position and how fullbacks are used in today’s NFL.

Over the last two decades, the fullback position has become an anomaly. Only a few teams in today’s game even have them on their roster let alone giving them consistent reps. On average, fullbacks that do see the field are only out there for 25% of their offensive snaps throughout a season.

In the early decades of the NFL, fullbacks were a critical part of the offenses, but when coaches started finding more efficient ways to score, they no longer relied on power on the ground to convert first downs and touchdowns. They went to the air instead. The more points, the better.

Today, almost no fullbacks even get selected in the draft. There has only been one fullback drafted over the last four years — the Baltimore Ravens selected Ben Mason in the fifth round in the 2021 NFL draft; and he was waived in less than a year.

They do say that history repeats itself, and since there is a need for faster and lighter linebackers, the fullback position may find its way back onto rosters in an attempt to counter defensive speed, with power.

It’s time to go over the top fullbacks around the league right now, how they help their offenses win in the modern NFL, and where those trends might be going.
