WATCH: Highlights of new Jets CB Bryce Hall

Here are highlights of new Jets cornerback Bryce Hall at Virginia.

The New York Jets addressed the cornerback position with Virginia’s Bryce Hall in the fifth round.

Hall’s draft stock fell dramatically after he sustained an ankle injury in his senior year that limited him to just six games. However, Hall has good size and length at 6-foot-1, 201 pounds. He also played wide receiver in high school; he has big hands. Hall had an outstanding junior season at Virginia, recording 21 pass breakups and two interceptions. In his four years at Virginia, Hall had 154 total tackles, four sacks, five interceptions and 38 pass breakups.

Here are Hall’s career highlights at Virginia:

3 surprising moves the Seahawks could make in the NFL draft

The Seattle Seahawks are no strangers to surprises during the NFL draft. Here are three unexpected moves the team could make next week.

The Seattle Seahawks aren’t afraid to go against the grain in the NFL draft.

From trading out of the first round regularly, to taking players unexpectedly, to trading up to draft a punter, this team always keeps their fans and the rest of the league on their toes during draft weekend.

Expect more of the same this year. With seven draft picks in tow, including a late first round pick, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a lot of trades from Seattle once again in 2020.

However – let’s presume Seattle gets really weird. I’m not talking about taking a quarterback in the first round weird, or drafting another punter, since those two things seem too far outside the realm of possibility. But a late round quarterback? A fullback? Using an early pick on a safety even though they have four capable ones already? Yeah, that’s John Schneider’s music right there. Let’s explore:

Georgia football recruiting: Bulldogs make top-eight for nation’s top CB

Georgia football made the cut for 5-star CB Tony Grimes on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday night, Georgia received a commitment from 4-star offensive tackle Micah Morris in the class of 2021.

But the good news did not stop there. Shortly after, the Bulldogs made the cut for 5-star cornerback Tony Grimes, who celebrated his 18th birthday by releasing his top-eight schools on Twitter.

Grimes’ top-eight is as follows:

Georgia, Clemson, Texas A&M, Virginia, Ohio State, Penn State, UNC and Tennessee.

Grimes, out Virginia Beach, ranks as the nation’s No. 1 cornerback in the 2021 class. He is also America’s No. 7 overall player and the top player in the state of Virginia.

The 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback plans on announcing his final decision on December 1st.

Grimes spoke with 247Sports about Georgia:

“(Defensive backs) coach (Charlton) Warren, with that visit I took down there, he shot me some game and I love what he has planned for his players to get better. I sat in a meeting with coach (Kirby) Smart, and coach Smart is running a good program. They play big-time ball. They’re SEC.”

Georgia originally offered Grimes on May 16, 2019.

Grimes also got a birthday shoutout from none other than THE Champ Bailey, a Georgia Bulldog legend.

Democrat Governor Ralph Northam signed bill SB-1126 in March 2019, allowing the Virginia Lottery System to expand gambling in the Old Dominion. There were 10 other gambling expansion bills failed or vetoed in the legislature. However, SB-1126 is passed and sports wagering could be offered depending upon a voter referendum.

Online sportsbooks in Virginia

None.

Retail sportsbooks in Virginia

None, but that could change depending on the results of resident voting to expand betting. Democrat Senator Louise Lucas introduced the bill which would mean opening commercial casinos in Bristol, Danville and Portsmouth, as well as on Native American land near Norfolk and Richmond.

The Virginia Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology called for a study on gambling’s impact with a mandate requiring the review be completed by Nov. 1.

Santa Clara Transfer Trey Wertz Has Notre Dame on List

While it improved from an injury-riddled 2018-19 season, it’s unlikely Notre Dame would have made the 2020 NCAA tournament as aN at-large.

While it improved from an injury-riddled 2018-19 season, it’s unlikely Notre Dame would have made the 2020 NCAA tournament as an at-large team had it taken place. The Irish will take help however they can, and if a Monday report from 247Sports is any indication, help might come in a couple of years.

Santa Clara guard Trey Wertz has listed Notre Dame as one of 11 schools on his short list of schools he would like to transfer to. The Irish made the cut from an initial round of over 40 schools. They’ll have to battle it out with ACC rivals Virginia, North Carolina and NC State for Wertz’s services. Rounding out the list of finalists are Ohio State, Butler, Oklahoma, Arizona, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Xavier.

Wertz averaged 11.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists a game this past season while shooting 40.0 percent from 3-point range. It was a slight dip from the year before, in which he averaged 12.2 points and 4.7 assists a game and made the WCC All-Freshman Team.

The COVID-19 pandemic will make it difficult for Wertz to make visits, so it’s likely Notre Dame will have to rely on reputation alone to win him over. The inability for recruits to make visits during this crisis has hampered the entire athletic program, though the same could be said for other schools, too. If there’s one thing Notre Dame has going for it in this case, it’s that the university is closer to Wertz’s hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. Hey, anything is worth a shot to gain an advantage in this race.

Notre Dame Basketball: Irish Beat Eagles in ACC Tourney Opener

I know sports and the world are reeling right now, but let’s pretend everything is normal for the moment.

I know sports and the world are reeling right now, but let’s pretend everything is normal for the moment. Notre Dame defeated Boston College in the second round of the ACC tournament, 80-58, on Wednesday. It took an early lead and never was seriously threatened. The Irish (20-12) are scheduled to face No. 17 Virginia on Thursday, while the Eagles (13-19) will head home, hopefully able to take care of themselves during this time of crisis.

The scoring was pretty evenly spread out among Notre Dame players as five players finished in double figures. T.J. Gibbs led the Irish with 16 points. Dane Goodwin got a start and made the most of it with 15 points. Prentiss Hubb scored 14 to go with a game-high nine assists, Juwan Durham added 12 points, and Nate Laszewski added 10. John Mooney had a typical night on the glass with 11 rebounds.

Good thing this game finished up before the hour that canceled the NBA season, revealed Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have coronavirus, and the President banned all travel from Europe. No one would have known this contest took place. Hopefully, we’re all still alive for tomorrow’s game and beyond.

ACC Tournament: Betting Odds

The most interesting bet on the board to me is Louisville at +340.

Tuesday night kicks off the 2020 ACC Tournament from Greensboro, North Carolina.  The four top seeds; Florida State, Virginia, Louisville and Duke all get a bye into the quarterfinals that begin Thursday but odds are out for all 14 ACC schools.

Per BetMGM, top-seeded Florida State enters the tournament as a +200 betting favorite.  For the inexperienced gamblers, that simply means for every dollar you risk betting Florida State to win it all, you’ll be rewarded with two dollars in winnings.  For instance – a ten dollar bet on Florida State would pay $30 ($20 in winnings and your $10 bet back).  Keep that in mind for the rest of the odds.

Duke may enter the tournament with the fourth seed but has the second best odds of winning at +240.  No. 3 Louisville (+340) and No.4 Virginia (+700) round out the teams with byes through the first and second rounds.

From there odds drop significantly as you’ll find No. 5 North Carolina State at +2500 while No. 6 Syracuse and No. 8 Clemson both pay +3300 odds.  After that is finally where you’ll find No. 7 Notre Dame at +4000 or 40-1 odds.

No. 14 North Carolina checks in at +5500 before No. 9 Miami and No. 13 Wake Forest at +10000.  No. 11 Virginia Tech has the second longest odds at +15000 while Notre Dame’s first round opponent, No. 10 Boston College has the longest odds on the board at +20000.

Odds via BetMGM. Access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated 2/8 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The most interesting bet on the board to me is Louisville at +340.  They dropped two of their final three regular season contests and three of their final six but find themselves with plenty of talent and on the other side of the bracket than both Florida State and Duke, instead having a very-beatable despite good Virginia team on their side.
