UNC Basketball vs. Villanova: Game preview, info, prediction and more

We preview the first game of the Battle 4 Atlantis between the UNC basketball program and Villanova.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will be back in action Thanksgiving day, taking on Villanova with a tip-off time of 2:30 P.M. EST.

This will be the Tar Heel’s second game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, making a statement in game one against UNI. It wasn’t smooth sailing for the Tar Heels against the Panthers, struggling to keep pace in the first half, but once the second period started, it was all UNC.

Some of the struggles that hindered the Tar Heels in the first half were their inability to knock down shots and bad defense. UNC has had the luxury of playing bad teams that could not capitalize off the struggles, so it’s intriguing to see how they fair against a worthy opponent like Villanova, especially with the 2016 memory to play for.

As UNC gets ready for its Thanksgiving Day game, let’s get into our preview for the Tar Heels and Wildcats.

UNC basketball vs. Villanova: How to watch Thursday’s game

Here’s how you can watch Thursday’s matchup between the UNC basketball program and Villanova.

The North Carolina men’s basketball team will play Villanova in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament second round taking place in the Bahamas.

It was quite a scare for UNC in round one of the tournament after falling behind Northern Iowa in the first half. Thankfully for Tar Heel fans, the scare didn’t last long, with UNC declawing the UNI Panthers in the second period.

There is a handful of exciting matching-ups that could come out of this tournament, and we already get a great second round with UNC looking for revenge from 2016. Let’s take a look at how to watch North Carolina’s second round.

Notre Dame offers four-star 2025 North Carolina recruit

Hope he picks the Irish.

As of this moment, Notre Dame does not have any commits for its 2025 class. While that seems like a long way off, that doesn’t mean [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] and his staff aren’t looking that far ahead.

To that end, Jackson Keith, a four-star small forward recruit and the third-ranked 2025 recruit from North Carolina according to 247Sports, has received an offer from the Irish. Keith himself announced the news on social media:

As one can see by this tweet, Shrewsberry had some assistance in recruiting Keith from associate head coach [autotag]Kyle Getter[/autotag]. Keith has gotten numerous offers from Division I programs over the past 15 months. Among them are Wake Forest, NC State, Virginia, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Xavier, Villanova, Georgetown, Illinois, Texas A&M and Tennessee.

Keith most definitely is going to be playing college basketball for a very prominent program. Hopefully, he eventually decides that the Irish are the way to go.

No. 12 Rutgers field hockey (4-0) continues their season-opening road trip this weekend, as they travel to Villanova (2-1) on Friday and No. 15 Princeton (0-2) on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights continue to climb the national rankings, moving four spots to No. 12 after starting the season 4-0.

Rutgers started their season-opening road trip in California, going 3-0, defeating UC Davis, Stanford, and Cal. In their previous matchup, the Scarlet Knights defeated No. 15 Uconn 2-1 in double overtime last weekend.

Players to watch for Rutgers heading into this weekend’s games are juniors Guillwemina Causarano and Sophia Howard. Causarano, from Salta, Argentina, is the Rutgers’ team leader in goals with three in four games. On the other hand, Howard, from Auckland, New Zealand, is ranked first in the nation in save percentage (.895) and second in goals-against-average. Also, Howard is third in the Big Ten in saves per game (4.25), and the Scarlet Knights are ranked fourth in shutouts per game.

Villanova holds a 19-15-1 all-time series record, but Rutgers defeated the Wildcats the last two times. The two teams played in 2015 when the Scarlet Knights defeated the Wildcats 5-2 and then in 2013 with Rutgers winning 3-2.

On Sunday, the Scarlet Knights will travel to Princeton to take on the No. 15 ranked Tigers. The Tigers and the Scarlet Knights will meet for the 27th time, with Princeton holding a 19-16-1 all-time series record. Princeton started the 2023 season with two losses to No. 9 Louisville and No. 1 North Carolina, falling in the national ranking from No. 10 to No. 15.

Social media reacts to Jahvon Quinerly’s decision to enter transfer portal

Fans online were quick to react to Jahvon Quinerly’s surprising decision to enter the transfer portal

Shocking news came out of Tuscaloosa Sunday evening as Alabama guard Javon Quinerly reportedly decided to enter the transfer portal. Quinerly will be leaving as a grad transfer so he will be eligible to play immediately for whatever team he chooses next. It will be his final remaining year of eligibility and his sixth year in college.

Quinerly was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and spent his first year of college ball with Villanova. He then entered the transfer portal and has since spent the past four seasons in Tuscaloosa making 123 appearances and 40 starts for Nate Oats. While at Alabama he posted career averages of 11.7 PPG, 3.7 APG and 2.3 RPG.

His decision sent shock waves through social media as people reacted to the surprising news.

Jahvon Quinerly shockingly enters the transfer portal

To the surprise of many, Alabama’s [autotag]Jahvon Quinerly[/autotag] plans to enter the transfer portal and potentially finish out his collegiate career elsewhere. Quinerly is entering his sixth year of college and only has one more remaining year of eligibility.

The former five-star recruit spent the first year of his career with Jay Wright and the Villanova Wildcats before joining the Crimson Tide in 2019-2020. He had to sit out a year due to transfer rules but had been a very impactful player for Nate Oats over the past three seasons as he appeared in 123 games, starting 40 of them.

He saw his role diminish a bit this past season as he only started six of 35 games, but he was a reliable veteran presence in the locker room averaging 8.7 PPG, 3.6 APG and 1.9 RPG. Quinerly declared for the 2023 NBA draft but ultimately decided to return to college basketball and Alabama.

So, his final decision to leave comes as a stunner, but Oats has done an outstanding job reshaping the roster this off-season. Mark Sears and Rylan Griffen will take over a majority of the guard duties as a result.
