Alabama Football: Four kickoff times announced for 2022 campaign

Alabama announces four kickoff times for the upcoming 2022 season.

As today officially marks 100 days until the start of the Crimson Tide’s 2022 campaign, the buzz is beginning to pick up. Today, Alabama announced their kickoff times for the first three games of the season as well as a late November game.

The Tide will open the season against the Utah State Aggies on Sept. 3. The season will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. in Bryant-Denny stadium.

The highly anticipated match up with the Texas Longhorns in week two will kickoff at 11:00 a.m. CDT Both Texas and Alabama fans are frustrated with FOX Sports for not allotting this the primetime slot.

Following the Longhorns, Alabama will host Louisiana Monroe on Sept. 17 at 3:00 p.m. CDT in what will be a blistering midday game in Tuscaloosa. Anyone and everyone who has attended an Alabama football game in September knows the heat is no joke.

Finally, the Nov. 19 matchup with Austin Peay will be an 11 a.m. CDT kickoff as well.

Ranking Alabama Football’s 2022 opponents from easiest to hardest

See how Alabama’s opponents for the 2022 season rank from easiest to hardest!

Alabama football fell just short of a national championship last season and even suffered a rare regular-season loss. Looking ahead to the upcoming 2022 season, the Crimson Tide returns plenty of key talent on both sides of the ball and will be welcoming some of the top transfers from all across college football.

The 2022 season will feature the typical SEC West rivals like Auburn, LSU, Arkansas and others. This year’s SEC East opponent will be the Vanderbilt Commodores, who will be visiting Bryant Denny Stadium in late September.

The Crimson Tide will be making the trip to Austin for the second game of the season to face the Texas Longhorns, a game that will be filled with high-powered offense and numerous storylines to follow.

With 12 games in the regular season ranging from possible conference title contenders to teams that are barely bowl eligible, here’s how Alabama’s 2022 opponents rank from easiest to hardest.

The Mountain West isn’t exactly wide open, but with Boise State, Air Force, and San Diego State coming back strong, and with several new head coaches about to make a splash, this should be as wild an unpredictable a conference as any in college football.

The rankings are based on how good the teams should be and not the final projected records. Keeping in mind that this all could/might/will change when we make the final calls in August …

2022 College Football Schedules By Teams: All 131 Schools

Big 12 second in win percentage from the 2021 college football season

Despite the narrative, the Big 12 finished the 2021 season with the second-highest win percentage among FBS conferences.

Over the last decade, there’s been a prevailing narrative that the Big 12 is one of the worst conferences among the Power Five in football. While they haven’t had the playoff success that the SEC, ACC (Clemson), or Ohio State have had, they’ve been a very competitive league. 2021 was no different.

The Big 12 has always stood strong on the depth of the conference that has provided some parity throughout the league. Last season saw several teams with an opportunity to play for the conference title entering the final month of the regular season. Baylor, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and Iowa State were in a tight race and after it was all said and done, Baylor and Oklahoma State made the trip to Arlington, Texas to replace the teams that played in the Big 12 championship in 2020; Oklahoma and Iowa State.

And although Baylor jumped out to a big first-half lead in the Big 12 title game, Oklahoma State rallied back at the end and were within inches of taking the lead on a goalline play that came up just short.

The Big 12 then sent seven of its 10 members to Bowl games. The only teams that didn’t participate were Texas, Kansas, and TCU. The conference went 5-2 in the bowl season, outscoring their opponents by 8.71 across all seven games. The only games they lost were Iowa State’s 20-13 loss to Clemson and West Virginia’s 18-6 loss to Minnesota. In their wins, the conference outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points per game. Against the Power Five, the Big 12 went 4-2, including a 2-0 record over the SEC.

Looking at how the conference compares to others, the Big 12 finished second only to the SEC in 2021. The only Power Five conference to not have a win percentage greater than .500 was the Pac-12. The teams that have historically been the standard-bearers for the league, USC, Stanford, and Washington, went a combined 11-25 last season. The Pac-12 had two teams with 10 or more wins. By comparison, the Big 12, SEC, ACC, and Big 10 each had three or more teams with 10 or more wins. The SEC and Big 10 had four teams with at least 10 wins last season.

Oklahoma and Texas will one day be moving to the Big 12 and Cincinnati, BYU, Houston, and UCF will be joining the Big 12. The conference’s present and future remain in really good shape as the league continues to evolve.

How it happened: Ducks’ big second half allows them to advance in the NIT

Oregon advances to the second round of the NIT with an 83-72 win over Utah State.

Oregon liked playing the Aggies so much it’s going to try it again.

The Ducks went on the road and defeated Utah State 83-72 and will travel to another team called the Aggies, Texas A&M, for the second round of the NIT. Oregon’s victory was Dana Altman’s 300th win as the Duck head coach and it also marked his 12th consecutive 20-win season in Eugene.

Utah State was up 37-33 at the halftime break, but it was a completely different story in the second half as the Ducks used their superior athletic ability on the Aggies. Oregon continually went to the basket, more specifically, Jacob Young, and the Ducks dominated the Mountain West squad.

Young scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and De’Vion Harmon kept the Ducks in the game with his 16 first half points.

Seahawks sign former Chiefs RB Darwin Thompson to future contract

The Seahawks added some depth to their running back group today.

The Seahawks added some depth to their running back group today, signing former Chiefs running back Darwin Thompson to a future contract. Thompson (5-foot-8, 200 pounds) finished his college career at Utah State, where he posted 1,395 yards from scrimmage and scored 20 touchdowns during the 2018 season.

After that, he was picked by Kansas City in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft. Thompson didn’t see much time in a crowded Chiefs backfield, though. He only got 64 carries during his first two seasons, totaling 225 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Players who sign future deals usually end up on the practice squad.

Packer QB Jordan Love has a Wisconsin Badger connection you may not have realized

For the Green Bay Packer fans out there that also are big followers of Wisconsin football, you probably know the current saga that is Aaron

For the Green Bay Packer fans out there that are also big followers of Wisconsin football, you probably know the current saga that is Aaron Rodgers reportedly wanting out of Green Bay.

An igniting force behind the current situation is the Packers’ selection of quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of last year’s NFL draft.

This is a Wisconsin sports website, so I’m not here to lay down a take about what the Packers should do. What I can do, though, is tell everyone about Love’s Wisconsin Badger connection that is flying largely under the radar.

So Love played for the Utah State Aggies from 2017-2019. During his time at the school, the Aggies actually visited Camp Randall and lost during the famous Jonathan Taylor debut game in 2017.

But that isn’t the connection at hand, as Love didn’t play in that contest. But he did end up starting the rest of that season and put up average numbers for a freshman.

Now fast forward to 2018, Love’s breakout year. The quarterback started all 13 games, completed 64 percent of his passes and threw for 3567 yards, 32 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions.

That was Matt Wells’ last year at Utah State before moving on to Texas Tech.

His replacement in 2019? Former Wisconsin football coach Gary Andersen. Yes, Andersen coached Jordan Love during his third and final year of college football.

The quarterback’s numbers during that season? 62 percent completion, 3402 yards, 20 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Love went from a 5.33 touchdown-to-interception ratio as a sophomore to a 1.17 ratio as a junior under Andersen.

The former Badger coach, whose career at Wisconsin I’ll choose to avoid, was then fired three games into the 2020 season after an 0-3 start.

Who knows what happens at quarterback for the Packers. But if it’s Jordan Love, Badger fans have a talking point about his college career.

4 darkhorse candidates to make serious noise during March Madness

One of the reasons we watch March Madness is for an upset. You want to see which team is going to have a Cinderella story at the Big Dance.

You can admit it. One of the reasons you watch March Madness is for an upset. You want to see which team is going to have a Cinderella story at the Big Dance.

While there is no guarantee that the NCAA Tournament will have a sleeper advance far, and the favorites could all end up in the Final Four, that in and of itself is part of the fun.

Create your men’s and women’s tournament brackets at USA TODAY Sports

No one can properly predict who will create these heartwarming stories. If we could, it would no longer be much of an upset. But if there are any teams who go farther than expected during this postseason, we are pretty sure it will be one of these four programs.
