Tennessee football wore white helmets, orange jerseys, orange pants and Summitt Blue accessories against UT Martin on Oct. 22, 2022.

The Vols defeated UT Martin, 65-24, at Neyland Stadium.

It was the first time Tennessee wore Summitt Blue accessories in football.

Summitt Blue accessories debuted in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Title IX. University of Tennessee athletics updated its brand standards and renamed the blue accent color historically associated with the Lady Vols to Summitt Blue.

Four teams (soccer, volleyball, women’s basketball, softball) debuted Summitt Blue uniforms during the 2022-23 academic year, part of the Summitt Legacy series.

Georgia Bulldogs football is back! Georgia fans filled Sanford Stadium for the Bulldogs’ first night game since 2021.

The Dawgs fended off a pesky UT Martin team after a slow start. The Bulldogs’ offense looked out of sync at times, but UT Martin never truly threatened to make the game competitive.

Georgia starting quarterback Carson Beck threw for nearly 300 yards and finished the game with two total touchdowns. Brock Bowers and Mekhi Mews stood out for the Georgia offense.

Defensively, Georgia picked up where it left off. Safeties Malaki Starks and Javon Bullard look like an elite pairing. The Dawgs allowed only 128 passing yards and 260 total yards in the win. Georgia’s defense lost its chance at another shutout in the fourth quarter, but bounced back with a Kyron Jones pick-six.

Georgia got off to a slow start in the first half against UT Martin. The Dawgs finished the first half on a disappointing note, when Georgia had to settle for a field goal after driving the ball into the red zone. Georgia held just a 17-0 halftime lead.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck had a solid, but not spectacular debut. Beck threw for 294 yards and contributed two total touchdowns. Georgia’s offense looked out of sync at times. The Bulldog defense looked sharp and allowed only two third-down conversions all night.

The Georgia Bulldogs have a 17-0 lead at halftime against UT Martin. Georgia tight end Brock Bowers looked outstanding for the back-to-back defending national champions.

Georgia’s new starting quarterback Carson Beck had an up-and-down first half. He showed some mobility and scored a rushing touchdown. However, the Dawgs punted too much in the first half and were forced to kick a field goal to end the first half.

Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo questionably called a run play with under 30 second left in the first half. The run play forced Georgia to spike the ball and cost the Dawgs a shot at the end zone. On third down, Carson Beck missed Arian Smith in the back of the end zone and Georgia had to settle for three.

Georgia’s defense look fast and the Bulldog offense is probably not utilizing the whole playbook. It is early in the season and not the time for Georgia fans to panic.

However, UT Martin has strung together one of the best stretches in program history and is looking to build off winning back-to-back conference championships.

UT Martin plays in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in the Football Championship Subdivision. The OVC plays in the Big South-OVC Football Association, which is comprised on 10 teams. UT Martin is predicted to finish third in the conference.

Chiefs have shown interest in Tennessee-Martin WR Colton Dowell

The #Chiefs have shown interest in a highly-decorated wide receiver prospect from an FCS school, per a new report.

The Kansas City Chiefs have shown interest in an FCS wide receiver who could be a late-round steal in the 2023 NFL draft.

According to The Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler, the Chiefs are among four teams to have shown interest in UT-Martin WR Colton Dowell. The other three teams are the New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 206 pounds, this 23-year-old wideout was a two-time First-Team and two-time Second-Team All-Conference selection in the Ohio Valley Conference from 2019-2022. Dowell was a highly-decorated receiver for the Skyhawks during the course of his career, breaking all sorts of school records at UT Martin. He finished his career with the most-ever receiving yards (2,796) while ranking third in touchdowns (19) and receptions (177).

At his pro day workout, Dowell posted some seriously explosive numbers.  His 41.5-inch vertical jump would have been the highest mark among receivers at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine and tied for the third-highest among all players. His 11-1 broad jump would have tied for fourth-best among receivers and fifth-best among all players.

Whether Dowell is a late-round pick or a priority undrafted free agent signing, he sure has the makings of a hidden gem. He has a productive career where he dominated the competition. He tested like an elite athlete at the position. He’s certainly someone who should be monitored for Kansas City on Day 3 or afterward.
