Where is Ohio State football in this week’s USA TODAY re-rank?

Did Ohio State gain any traction this week in Paul Myerberg’s re-rank of all the FBS teams? Better yet, should it have? #GoBucks

Every week, USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg re-ranks all 131 FBS teams based on the body of work including the observations from the most recent week of games in college football. Needless to say, Week 3 was a tumultuous — if not entertaining one — that saw Alabama barely squeak by Texas, and a few other notable teams like Baylor and Texas A&M bite the dust.

For Ohio State, it was a bit of a ho-hum game after showing some growing pains in a modest 11-point win against Notre Dame in Week 1. Myerberg had his work cut out for him but went ahead and gave it his best shot in trying to rank every single team after just a couple of full weeks of play.

So, where does he have Ohio State? What about other Big Ten teams? Did Alabama drop? Here’s how he re-ranked things, with us cutting things off at the top 25 teams for now. Of course, if you want to see the complete rankings, you can do so by visiting our mothership and checking it all out.

Ohio State falls in USA TODAY college football re-rank after Week 1

What does USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg say about where Ohio State is in its latest college football re-rank? Do you agree? #GoBucks

As we scour the free interweb, it’s been awfully hard to find anyone who doesn’t believe that Ohio State did enough to be considered one of the top two teams in the country. The Buckeyes got bumped down in both major polls, the ESPN Power Rankings, and almost every other site that has an opinion out there.

But hey, we had hopes that our own mothership, USA TODAY could be the outlier and have our backs. Right? Not so much. Paul Myerberg does his college football re-rank every week during the college football season and he too has the Buckeyes falling ever so modestly this week after the win over a top-five Notre Dame squad.

Here is a look at Myerberg’s top 25 after our first full week of games. If you want to look at the rest of the rankings, feel free to head on over to USA TODAY and look at all 131 teams.

USA TODAY still not sold on Ohio State in latest ‘re-rank’

We have to admit, this seems a bit too low for a team playing great right now.

This Ohio State football team is starting to hit its stride, playing the best it has all season.

Every week we like to keep tabs on where our mothership USA TODAY has the Buckeyes ranked in their “re-rank” piece, and usually, we agree pretty closely with what Paul Myerberg says. This time, even though we’re all a part of the same team, we couldn’t disagree more with his assessment of where the Buckeyes stand after Week 8.

Most everyone else — opinions, polls, and metrics — are starting to come in line with Ohio State being back among the elite five teams in the country. Some, like Fox’s Joel Klatt and ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, are beginning to talk about OSU in the same breath as Georgia, as the second-best team in the country right now.

But not Myerberg. Instead, he has Ohio State outside his top five in the latest re-rank of all the FBS teams, sitting at No. 7. So what are the teams ahead of the Buckeyes? Well, as you would expect Georgia is at No. 1, then it goes Cincinnati (2), Alabama (3), Oklahoma (4), Michigan (5), and Oregon (6). Just behind OSU, rounding out the top ten are Iowa (8), Michigan State (9), and Ole Miss (10).

Do we have to point out that we’ve got the Alabama curve in here again? The Tide loses to Texas A&M, while Ohio State loses to a team he has ranked ahead of the Buckeyes, yet the Crimson Tide gets the benefit of the doubt once again.

Oh well, at least all of these rankings don’t matter. What will, however, are the College Football Playoff Rankings that come out in a little over a week’s time. That should be fun to throw things at too.

Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY ranks Ohio State football in his initial preseason re-rank

How highly does USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg think of Ohio State in the preseason. See where he ranked the Buckeyes in his preseason re-rank.

We’ll follow this more throughout the year as we have previously, but Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY has come out with his preseason re-rank (subscription required) of every college football team for the upcoming 2021 season.

You wouldn’t expect Ohio State to land too far down the list, and that’s exactly the case. Despite having to replace Justin Fields at quarterback, as well as losing two offensive starters on the offensive line and a ton on defense, Myerberg still has OSU as the No. 4 team in the country behind — surprise — Alabama (1), Clemson (2), and Oklahoma (3.)

That’s not exactly going out on a limb, but most at this point, why would anyone with what we’ve seen over the last few years. However, I continue to wonder why Clemson is being thought of so highly. The Tigers lost a pretty talented starting quarterback as well in Trevor Lawrence, along with other key members of the team after the Buckeyes absolutely trounced them in the Sugar Bowl last year.

But I digress.

Rounding out the top ten in Myerberg’s preseason rankings are Georgia (5), Iowa State (6), Cincinnati (7), North Carolina (8), Texas A&M (9), and Notre Dame (10).

Other teams from the Big Ten appearing in the preseason re-rank include Penn State (12), Wisconsin (14), and Iowa (16). Michigan is just outside the top 25 at No. 26, but who’s counting?

It should be another fantastic college football season, and one where Ohio State is in the thick of some pretty special things once again. It can’t get here soon enough.

Where do the Texas Longhorns fall in the latest USA TODAY Sports power rankings?

In the USA TODAY Sports re-rank, Texas remained in the No. 24 spot. Northwestern was the only team to make a significant jump over UT.

Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns are enjoying their best stretch of the season, winning their past three games. Victories against Baylor, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia have kept the Longhorns in the Big 12 championship discussion.

In the USA TODAY Sports re-rank, Texas remained in the No. 24 spot in the country. Northwestern was the only team to make a significant jump over the Longhorns in the top 25, moving up to No. 18 after beginning their season 4-0.

Oklahoma State remains the top team in the Big 12 at No. 15. The Cowboys have their biggest game of the season on Saturday night. The annual Bedlam matchup with Oklahoma will give the winner one foot in the Big 12 championship game.

Here is where every other Big 12 team is ranked:

  • No. 20 Iowa State
  • No. 22 Oklahoma
  • No. 34 Kansas State
  • No. 36 West Virginia
  • No. 62 TCU
  • No. 79 Texas Tech
  • No. 96 Baylor
  • No. 125 Kansas

With the bye week in the past and the focus turning to Kansas, Texas is entering a crucial stretch in their season. If the Longhorns can win out and have a little bit of luck in the tiebreaking categories, Herman could be trending towards his second conference championship appearance.

Where is Ohio State in latest USA TODAY’s re-rank of college football teams?

USA Today’s Paul Meyerberg updated his weekly re-rank of college football teams. Where does he have Ohio State this week?

It’s that time of the week where we look in on USA TODAY’s re-rank of all the college football teams. Paul Myerberg is the one tasked with re-ranking all 127 teams after the latest week of observation and games, and it has been a moving target as you can imagine.

Myerberg has been historically high on Ohio State, but so far, like most media members, he’s taken a wait and see approach with the Buckeyes this year despite them looking pretty dominant so far. There hasn’t really been a true test with what we’ve seen from Penn State’s fall, so it’s hard to get a good gauge on how OSU will look when if faces a talented team.

So where does he have Ohio State? The same place he’s had the Buckeyes for the last few weeks, at No. 3 just behind No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Clemson.

Rounding out the top ten after those three are Clemson (4), Cincinnati (5), Texas A&M (6), Florida (7), Wisconsin (8), Oregon (9), and BYU (10).

USA TODAY Sports

If you’re a little bedazzled and upset at the Buckeyes seemingly unmoveable perch at No. 3, never fear, Ohio State has a matchup with top ten opponent Indiana (yes, it’s true) this weekend.

Ohio State can’t get traction in latest USA TODAY college football re-rank

Paul Myerberg released his latest USA TODAY re-rank of all the college football teams after the latest slate of games. Where is Ohio State?

It’s time to take a look at the popular USA TODAY re-rank of all the college football teams that Paul Myerberg champions every week. In the past, Myerber has been about as unbiased as you can find and normally gives due credit to Ohio State.

This year though, so far the Buckeyes can’t seem to crack the top two. Like most opinions in the strange and tragic year of the coronavirus pandemic, the teams that got the season off the ground early got some perception money in the bank. Alabama and Clemson put some tape out there and haven’t done too much to change it.

Meanwhile, Ohio State only has two games (albeit impressive showings) worth of football to impress media members. So, OSU remains at No. 3 in the latest re-rank behind Clemson and Alabama who remaining steady at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.

Rounding out the top ten behind those three are Notre Dame (4), Cincinnati (5), Georgia (6), Texas A&M (7), Oregon (8), Wisconsin (9), and Florida (10).

NEXT … The USA TODAY Re-rank Top 25

Ohio State doesn’t move in latest USA TODAY re-rank

Ohio State hung 52 points on Nebraska, but it wasn’t enough for USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg to move the Buckeyes up in his latest re-rank.

It’s technically late October but we only just now witnessed Ohio State football’s first game of the season as the Big Ten finally kicked things off this weekend. That means for the first time since USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg began re-ranking the college football teams weekly, there was actually some game tape to go off of in the heartland.

Penn State’s loss, Wisconsin’s bludgeoning of Ilinois, and Michigan’s whitewashing of Minnesota shook things up a bit across the latest re-rank, but Ohio State remained steady at No. 3, just behind Clemson (1), and Alabama (2).

You have to wonder if the Buckeyes would have begun the season earlier if it would be a consensus No. 3 team right now. Most analysts, experts, and polls had OSU as the No. 2 team behind only Clemson, but the Crimson Tide have put together a few weeks of pretty impressive ball to move the perception needle a tick higher than the Buckeyes.

Rounding out the top ten of the USA TODAY re-rank behind those three teams are Georgia (4), Notre Dame (5), Oklahoma State (6), Cincinnati (7), Michigan (8), Oregon (9), and Texas A&M (10). Big Ten teams Wisconsin (13), Indiana (24), and Penn State (25) also appear in the top 25.

Texas tumbles down to No. 40 in USA TODAY Sports college football rankings

Ohio State falls in latest USA TODAY college football re-rank

Ohio State got knocked down a peg in Paul Myerberg’s USA TODAY college football re-rank. What team jumped ahead of the Buckeyes?

We followed the USA TODAY re-rank heavily last college football season and we’re doing the same this season. Ohio State hasn’t played any games yet, but Paul Myerberg has still included the Buckeyes in his ranking of all the FBS teams on a weekly basis.

In his previous re-ranks, Myerberg had OSU No. 2, but that run has come to an end. That’s because the Alabama Crimson Tide have overtaken Ohio State thanks to an impressive two weeks to start the year. And while many are expecting the Buckeyes to be very good in their own right, sometimes it’s a case of what have you done for me lately– or out of sight, out of mind.

No matter the reason, OSU is now behind both Clemson and Alabama as it still sits idly by, practicing, and chomping at the bit to get the Big Ten season going on October 24 against Nebraska.

[lawrence-related id=38274]

Rounding out the top ten are Georgia (4), Florida (5), Penn State (6), Oregon (7), Notre Dame (8), Miami (9), and Cincinnati (10).

Don’t fret Buckeye fans. What really matters is the College Football Rankings and there’s still a long while before we see those come out. That means there’s plenty of time to make an impression on the college football world.
