Heisman winner Caleb Williams shrugs off comparisons to Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes

Heisman winner Caleb Williams dismissed comparisons of himself to #Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in a recent podcast interview.

Heisman winner Caleb Williams shrugged off comparisons to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during a recent podcast interview, telling the Ringer’s Kevin Clark that he hasn’t won enough big games to put himself in the same league as the NFL’s reigning MVP.

“I am my own self,” Williams explained in his interview with Clark on the Slow News Day podcast. “The man [Mahomes] has two Super Bowls under his belt, and I have not even [won] one national championship.”

While Williams is correct in asserting that Mahomes has proven his worth at football’s highest level, he may have sold himself a bit short after winning college football’s most coveted award last season.

Williams will be in the conversation to be the first-overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft next year, and with a Heisman trophy to show for his efforts at the University of Southern California, he certainly has the potential to rival Mahomes in the coming years if his skillset translates to the pros.

This polished offensive lineman was one of the Ravens’ best picks in the 2023 NFL draft, with highlights to back up the hype surrounding him

Andrew Vorhees wouldn’t have been around in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft if he hadn’t been injured during the draft process earlier in the offseason. This polished offensive lineman could push for starting time early in his career if he is able to fully recover from the injury, and should be considered the steal of the seventh round.

Several fanbases wanted their teams to draft Vorhees on Day 3, but the only franchise willing to take a chance on his talents was the Ravens. Check out his collegiate highlights below to get a better sense of his skillset ahead of the 2023 season:

During the course of every football game, there are plays that stand out that make or break a team. Three to five seconds every game that can completely change the outcome. For Notre Dame and their 31-16 win over visiting USC, it was some good, and a little bad. Find out which five plays decided Notre Dame’s win over the Trojans.

5 Stars: The best and worst of Notre Dame’s win against USC

More good than bad tonight for the Irish

The Irish got a very nice win against USC, 31-16, extending their winning streak against the Trojans to four games. There was a lot to like about what Notre Dame accomplished throughout the game, but there were still some areas that they could have been better. Here are the best performances, 5 stars, and worst performances, 1 star, from the Irish in their win over USC.

Buchner for six

It seemed like the Trojans were on their way to making a comeback, after back-to-back touchdowns to cut the Irish lead from 24-3 down to 24-16. The Irish needed an answer and that’s exactly what they did.

Over eight plays, the Irish gained 75-yards and used up just short of 4 minutes on the clock and found the end zone on a Tyler Buchner 3-yard scoring run. It was sorely needed and it gave the Irish a cushion heading into the final 5 minutes of the game. It wasn’t the greatest drive, but two Trojan 15-yard penalties gave the Irish what they needed to find a way to pay dirty. Take a look at the scoring run by Buchner below.

Watch: Notre Dame RB Williams finds the end zone for a second time against USC

Williams x 2

The Irish have started to impose their will against rival USC and they’re getting it done where you wan them to, in the trenches. The defensive line is terrorizing the Trojan quarterback Kedon Slovis.

The Irish offensive line really has progressed nicely during the off week, they’ve opened holes for the running backs and given time for quarterback Jack Coan to find open receivers. The back that has taken the most advantage of the lines progression has been Kyren Williams. He is starting to look like the player we saw last year. Williams is finding holes, churning his legs and being a force. That combination has led to the back finding the end zone for the second time tonight, just take a look at it below as the Irish extend their lead, 24-3 over the Trojans.

The Irish strike back against the Trojans

After USC got back to within a touchdown after a field goal, the Irish decided to get that lead even larger than it previously had. Jack Coan engineered a 9-play, 75-yard scoring drive that ended with a Kyren Williams 5-yard touchdown run.

The Irish once again pushed the lead, but this time to their largest lead of the night with a score of 17-3. It was their third 70-yard plus drive of the game and the second on the resulted in a touchdown. Take a look below as Williams fight his way across the goal line, dragging Trojan defends with him into the end zone.

Watch: Notre Dame linebacker Bo Bauer picks off USC’s Slovis

The first big defensive play goes the Irish’s way

The Trojans finally got some momentum on offense, mainly looking towards their star receiver Drake London’s way. A drive that started on their own 25-yard line saw them go down the field and end the first quarter at the Irish 23-yard line.

The first play of the second quarter would prove to be a big one for the Irish as USC quarterback Kedon Slovis was pressured by defensive end Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa and made him force a throw. Slovis’ mistake was the Irish’s gain as linebacker Bo Bauer picked off the pass and rumbled 79-yards down the field to the Notre Dame 12 yard line. Check out the pick below.

Watch: Coan finds Davis as Notre Dame scores first against USC

The Irish find paydirt first

The Irish settled for a field goal on their first drive, but unfortunately Jonathan Doerer missed an easy one from 36-yards out. The Notre Dame defense then came out and did what we all like to see, they forced the Trojans into a 3-and-out and immediately got the ball back for the Irish offense.

Quarterback Jack Coan started the drive, but freshamn Tyler Buchner came in for a few plays and both quarterbacks helped lead the Irish down the field. Coan was the one who cashed in, as he found Avery Davis in the back of the endzone for the first score of the game. The drive was 11 plays and covered 70-yards, giving the Irish a 7-0 lead with just over 4 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Twitter reacts to Georgia landing USC transfer QB JT Daniels

See Twitter reactions to USC QB JT Daniels transferring to the Georgia football program.

It’s official. USC transfer quarterback JT Daniels is a Georgia Bulldog per his Twitter account. The former 5-star out of Santa Ana, California was the No. 6 prospect in the 2018 recruiting class and the No. 3 rated quarterback behind Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields.

[lawrence-related id=30526]

As a freshman, Daniels threw for 2,672 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He entered the transfer portal in mid-April after his sophomore season was derailed by a knee injury. USC’s Kedon Slovis stepped in while Daniels was down and played well for the Trojans, making the transfer portal one of the only options for Daniels – reminiscent of the Eason/Fromm situation…

Georgia will have a lot of talent in its quarterback room this year.
