ULM to take disciplinary action against OL coach Cam Blankenship for meltdown

ULM will deal with Cam Blankenship for the assistant coach’s tantrum

Cam Blankenship going ballistic against offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson will be dealt with ULM announced Saturday evening.

In a viral video, Blankenship is seen losing his mind as the redshirt sophomore runs off the field in the Warhawks’ 28-23 loss to Marshall.

Blankenship throws his headset to the turf, charges at Blankenship, berates and pushes him.

The school released a statement on social media saying it would be dealt with internally.

LSU softball withstands ULM firepower in midweek win on Tuesday night

LSU’s winning streak extended to six games on Tuesday night against the Warhawks.

It wasn’t easy for the LSU softball team on Tuesday night in its midweek matchup against ULM. It allowed eight hits and had to overcome three separate deficits, but it ultimately pulled away to earn its 30th win of the season with a 7-4 victory.

The first inning was an eventful one. ULM (22-15) started the frame with three hits including a double that plated a pair of runs to give it the early lead.

But LSU (30-4) answered in the bottom of the first as [autotag]Ali Newland[/autotag] led off with a full-count homer. A sacrifice groundout from [autotag]Raeleen Gutierrez[/autotag] tied the game at two, but the Tigers couldn’t retake the lead.

The Warhawks retook the lead in the second with an RBI single as LSU wasn’t quite able to make a tag at home, and that ended a short start for [autotag]Emilee Casanova[/autotag], who was chased from the game in favor of [autotag]Raelin Chaffin[/autotag].

The Tigers would tie the game at three in the bottom of the frame as [autotag]Maddox McKee[/autotag] hit a two-out single to score a run. Once again, though, LSU couldn’t protect the tie as Chaffin allowed a double and an RBI single as ULM reclaimed a 4-3 lead.

But for the third inning in a row, the Tigers answered. [autotag]Karli Petty[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly, and [autotag]McKenzie Redoutey[/autotag] hit a three-run homer in the next at-bat as LSU jumped out to a 7-4 advantage.

There were no runs scored in the final four frames, and the Warhawks struggled to keep things going on offense, though they did ultimately strand a pair of baserunners in that span.

Now, the Tigers will prepare to hit the road for a big-time matchup on the road between top 10 teams as it draws Florida for a weekend series that begins Saturday.

Saints sign former ULM running back Derrick Gore after free agent tryouts

Saints sign former ULM running back Derrick Gore after free agent tryouts

There’s a new name on the New Orleans Saints depth chart at running back. Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson first reported that the team signed Derrick Gore after trying out a group of free agents, which was confirmed by NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill. Gore, 27, logged 51 carries to gain 256 rushing yards with 8 receptions and another 105 receiving yards last year for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gore might be familiar to some Saints fans as an alum out of the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks program, having begun his college career at Alabama. He led ULM in rushing in each of his two seasons as their starting running back, and that helped get him on the NFL’s radar — though New Orleans is his fourth team after turning pro in 2019.

Now, whether Gore signed with the Saints practice squad first or is going directly to their 53-man roster is unclear, though it’s more likely he’ll join Jordan Howard on the practice squad. New Orleans has some openings on each list so they could choose to take it differently. We’ll see. At any rate, Gore joins a depth chart featuring Alvin Kamara, Mark Ingram II, and Dwayne Washington on the active roster with Howard on the practice squad.

ULM Warhawks Preview 2022

There was a moment.

No one was expecting anything coming off an 0-10 season and without a winning season since 2012, but all of a sudden ULM looked like it was on track to go bowling in Terry Bowden’s first year.

The Warhawks shocked Liberty and beat South Alabama for a 4-3 start, had two winnable games in the last five, and then …

4-8.

But to be fair, four of those last five were on the road and three of those were against LSU, Louisiana, and Appalachian State. The other two games – at Texas State and against Arkansas State – were close.

Now there are just enough veterans to make a push for those six wins, even if it’s going to take something miraculous against an even tougher schedule to make that happen.

ULM Warhawks Preview 2022: Offense

There were too many problems on third downs, the downfield passing attack wasn’t there, and the offensive line was a turnstile. However, the offense had a few decent moments and there’s just enough experience back to be better. However …

The offensive line has the be a LOT better, and it has to do it without left tackle Willie Tyler off to Rutgers. Two starters are back and there’s a little help from the transfer portal with Zarian McGill an important get at center.

The running game didn’t have any room to move, but the two main backs return. Andrew Henry led the team with 482 yards and four scores, and Malik Jackson ran for 451 yards and added more burst. Jackson, though, will likely work mostly at receiver after flirting with the transfer portal.

This should be Chandler Rogers’ show to run – he likely won’t be splitting time like he did last year. The sophomore was third on the team in rushing and led the was with 1,311 passing yards with nine touchdowns and three picks.

The delightfully-named Boogie Knight earned All-Sun Belt status as the team’s leading receiver, but he’s not alone with most of the top targets back for Rogers to spread it around. That includes TE Zach Rasmussen – three of his catches went for touchdowns.

ULM Warhawks Preview 2022: Defense

The offense struggled, and the defense didn’t do a whole lot to help. There wasn’t enough push into the backfield, and the pass defense was among the worst in the country, but the group did a decent job of taking the ball away and wasn’t totally awful against the run.

The linebacking corps in the 4-2-5 has a thumper in Zack Woodard. If he doesn’t lead the team in tackles, he’ll be close, Quae Drake adds some experience and hitting ability on the outside, and the hope is for Harding transfer Carl Glass to work in a hybrid role like another safety on the field.

The front four might be one of the teams earlier strengths. There’s good size, and what the depth lacks in experience it makes up for in bulk. Top end Ty Shelby is done. but the tackle combination of Caleb Thomas and Quincy Ledet should be able to hold up.

The secondary struggled, so losing corner Josh Newton to TCU and S Nick Roberts to SMU isn’t that massive. However, this group needs to find playmakers in a big hurry. It’s not a total do-over, but it’s not far off around third-leading tackler Jabari Johnson.

LSU vs UL-Monroe: Short series history filled with Tigers domination

A look the brief series history between LSU and ULM, dominated by the Tigers.

[mm-video type=video id=01fmnj53mpz6d6kyetg3 playlist_id=01eqbz5s7cf4w69e0n player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fmnj53mpz6d6kyetg3/01fmnj53mpz6d6kyetg3-0b6f0de8008157d7e66d5afd217eb0b8.jpg]

The series history between these two Louisiana schools is very short-lived. In fact, they have met on the football field just three times in their history. All three games have taken place since the year 2003. In the three games of the series, the Warhawks have scored a combined seven points. All three games were played in Death Valley, on Saturday it will become the fourth game in Baton Rouge for these two schools.

The 2003 season was a magical year for the LSU Tigers, it was the first time they won a national championship since the 1950s. In 1958 under head coach Paul Dietzel, the Tigers won the national championship. In 2003 when these two teams met, LSU would eventually get over the hump under head coach Nick Saban. The team was led by quarterback Matty Mauck who threw for three touchdowns in the game. In the second and third quarters combined, the Tigers outscored ULM 42-0 as they cruised to the win 49-7.

How the latest Football Power Index has LSU finishing over final three

How the FPI sees the season finishing

The LSU Tigers go into the final stretch of the season with three home games. On the road this year, they finished 1-4 while winning three of four at home. That is a good thing for the Tigers. They still have an opportunity to finish out with a .500 season and a bowl game on the line.

Not exactly where some thought they would be, present company included. They have two winnable games and one that looks less so as the weeks roll by. Texas A&M started slow but seems like they have figured it out as they catapulted themselves near the top 10.

Whether or not this team sees bowl season could very well come down to how they look against an Arkansas team that already earned bowl eligibility. We look at the updated Football Power Index from ESPN. Currently, they have LSU ranked No. 41 overall.

The Final Four: How the FPI predicts the LSU Tigers to finish the season

Are we heading for another .500 season in Baton Rouge?

Starting next Saturday the LSU Tigers begin their four-game stretch to end the 2021 college football season. They have two ranked foes left with Alabama and Texas A&M. Those games sandwich a date with Arkansas and UL-Monroe. Their final road game of the season will come next week when they head to Tuscaloosa and Bryant-Denny Stadium.

There isn’t a lot of reason for optimism, but they still have a bowl berth on the line. They missed last season due to a self-imposed bowl ban and the team would like to send their seniors out with a postseason game. How do they get there?

At minimum LSU needs to win two games, going 3-1 will secure a better bowl destination. Knocking off No. 3 Alabama seems like a tall task but Arkansas, ULM, and Texas A&M are winnable games. The question remains on if you trust this team to pull it off.

A look at how the Football Power Index sees it.

Penn State’s all-time record against every member of the Sun Belt Conference

Penn State has never lost a football game to a team currently in the Sun Belt, but Appalachian State came close.

Of all of the FBS conferences in college football, Penn State has the least head-to-head contact with the Sun Belt Conference. The Nittany Lions have played a member of the Sun Belt Conference just three times in program history, and one of those meetings took place before one of those current Sun Belt members was even playing FBS football.

And although Penn State has won all three of their meetings against the Sun Belt Conference, the last one nearly shook the entire program to start the season.

Here is a look at how Penn State fares all-time against schools currently in the Sun Belt Conference.

Note: Penn State has never faced Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy, or ULM.

5. College Football News Preview 2020: ULM Warhawks Offense 3 Things To Know

The Warhawk offense has to somehow go on without Caleb Evans. The longtime star quarterback is finally done, and now it’s going to take some work to come up with the right guy who can make the attack that averaged 461 yards – second-best in the Sun Belt – and 32 points per game,

[jwplayer DWq0llPr]

Sophomore Colby Suits will get the first look after being Evans’ backup. He’s a 6-3, 242-pound passer who can move a bit, However, he’s going to have to hold off JUCO transfer Jeremy Hunt, a 6-3, 215-pound dual-threat option who fits the offense perfectly.

Leading receiver Markis McCray is done, but Josh Pederson is a fantastic tight end who caught a team-high nine touchdown passes on his 43 grabs as a go-to target and safety valve

The receiving corps is full of field stretchers options. It’s a deep, loaded group even without McCray with junior Perry Carter ready to take on a bigger role in his spot.

The quarterback might have to be a big part of the rushing element – Evans was second on the team in rushing and led the way with 12 scores – but it all works around senior Josh Johnson, a tough 215-pound veteran who averaged well over six yards per carry with 1,298 yards and 11 scores.

The offensive line that was so strong in pass protection – Evans had a lot to do with that – but had problems keeping defenses out of the backfield against the run has to all but start over. Senior Samuel Williams is back at one tackle, and everyone else has to be replaced.
