Rivalry week: How UGA vs Georgia Tech ticket prices stack up to the rest of CFB

A look at UGA vs Georgia Tech ticket prices compared to the rest of college football this rivalry week. Plus looking the SEC Championship.

It’s the final weekend of the college football regular season. Wow…how sad is that?

Very sad is the answer to that question, but on the bright side we are in for a good day of college football.

Alabama vs Auburn and Ohio State vs Michigan headline what will be an exciting Saturday. Additionally, fans will also be able to enjoy a ranked matchup between Wisconsin and Minnesota plus Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

With the Dawgs playing LSU in the SEC Championship the following weekend, I’m looking forward to watching how the Tigers handle Texas A&M, which Georgia struggled against last weekend.

Speaking of the SEC Championship, currently, the get-in price for the conference title game is $341 and the average is now $995. The get-in price has only dropped just over 2% in the last week, but the average list price has gone down 23% over that same time frame. I’d be curious to see what would happen to those prices if LSU were to lose this weekend seeing as how it would then be a win-or-go-home battle for both teams.

As for this weekend, Georgia fans’ wallets will get a bit of a break if they want to see the Dawgs take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Currently, Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate is the weekend’s ninth most expensive game, with a get-in price of $98. For Georgia fans, that’s not too bad; for Tech fans, this is the Yellow Jackets’s most expensive game of the season.

Minnesota at Wisconsin claims the title of most expensive ticket this weekend with tickets starting $257, followed by the Iron Bowl at $165.

PETA: ‘Georgia Athletics must retire Uga immediately’

PETA called for Georgia football to retire its live mascot Uga.

Controversial ‘animal rights’ organization PETA recently caused a stir within the UGA community when it called on the school to retire its long-tenured live mascot: Uga the dog.

The current instillment of the beloved canine, Uga X, was featured prominently throughout CBS’ broadcast of the Dawgs’ win over Texas A&M, evading the rain from the comfort of his quite luxurious doghouse.

However, this didn’t stop the activist group from calling out the team on Twitter.

Needless to say, PETA’s claims did not sit well with Dawg Nation.

Hopefully, PETA learns its lesson and understands that Uga is actually treated quite well.

Twitter reacts to Georgia football’s win over TAMU

Twitter reacts as Georgia football beat Texas A&M.

Georgia football advanced to 10-1 with a win over Texas A&M on Saturday night.

With that win, Georgia closed out SEC play with a record of 7-1 and looks to advance to an overall 11-1 mark with a win over Georgia Tech on Saturday.

The Bulldogs, who will have a chance to take home the SEC Championship for the second time in three years two weeks from now vs LSU, will enjoy their win over the Aggies before getting back to work for Tech.

The game was not pretty at all. The offense played, well, poorly – aside from Rodrigo Blankenship that is.

But the Georgia strategy, as frustrating and questionable as it may be, has worked.

What’s that strategy, you ask?

Play great defense and just good enough offense.

Rodrigo Blankenship is now Georgia football’s all-time leading scorer

UGA K Rodrigo Blankenship is now Georgia football’s all-time leading scorer.

Rodrigo Blankenship is probably the most beloved kicker in the history of Georgia football, maybe even in all of college football.

And on Saturday, which happens to be Senior Day for him, he proved that he is deserving of that title, becoming the school’s all-time leading points scorer.

With his third field goal vs Texas A&M, Blankenship passed former Georgia kicker Blair Walsh for first in school history, and also passed him for second in SEC history.

Hot Rod, with 415, trails only Auburn’s Daniel Carlson, who finished his career with 480 in 2017.

Congratulations to Blankenship.

Georgia vs TAMU: Jake Fromm hits George Pickens for game’s first touchdown

Georgia football QB Jake Fromm hits UGA WR George Pickens for a TD vs Texas A&M.

After an ugly first 20 minutes of football in the Georgia vs Texas A&M game, Jake Fromm and the Bulldogs’ offense were finally able to put together a drive that resulted in a touchdown.

Fromm had struggled all first half until eventually he hit Tyler Simmons on the sideline for a 27 yard gain on a back shoulder pass. The next play, Fromm hit Kearis Jackson on the same play but to the other sideline for a gain of 22.

Next thing we knew, Fromm had the Bulldogs offense in the red zone, where he was able to hit freshman George Pickens for a 16 yard touchdown.

 

 

Paul Finebaum thinks Georgia football can win it all

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum believes Georgia football can still win the CFP.

Paul Finebaum, while on the set of SEC Nation which was posted up in Athens today ahead of Georgia’s final SEC game vs Texas A&M, says he believes that the Bulldogs can win the national championship.

“Call me crazy, but I still think Georgia can still win the national championship,” Finebaum said. “I have not understood so many people wanting to write them off. … What are they missing? This is a really good football team and Kirby Smart is doing a little bit of rope-a-dope.”

Georgia still has two more tough ones ahead of it if it wants to even get into the College Football Playoff, but with the way the Dawgs are playing this month, especially on defense, it’s really not that crazy to think they can make another run at the national title.

The Playoff committee has Georgia at No. 4 for a reason.

 

Georgia, Alabama miss out on 5-star linebacker

Georgia football, Alabama and a few other SEC schools missed out on a commitment from 5-sta LB Noah Sewell.

Georgia, Alabama and a few other SEC contenders missed out on securing a commitment from a five-star linebacker on Friday night from the class of 2020.

Noah Sewell, the nation’s No. 2 inside linebacker out of Orem, Utah, tweeted his commitment to Oregon after winning the Utah 5A state title game on Friday.

Sewell, a 6-2 266 pound linebacker, is a monster of a player who is too small for the defensive tackle position but too big for a defensive back. Once he slims down a bit and adds some more speed, he will be a huge difference maker for Oregon for years.

Sewell comes from a football family. He has three brothers who currently play college football; one is an offensive tackle at Oregon, one is a linebacker at Nevada and the other plays safety at Utah.

Sewell visited Georgia on September 21st for the Bulldogs’ game vs Notre Dame.

 

#UGA24: Future Dawgs post amazing reaction videos to Twitter after being accepted into Georgia

Students who were accepted Early Action via Georgia admissions posted amazing reaction videos to Twitter after becoming members of #UGA24.

On Friday, high school students who applied early action to the University of Georgia were made aware if they were going to be future Bulldogs.

For those who received the good news, this was more than just another college acceptance letter; it was a dream come true.

Students who were not accepted, don’t give up. Work hard and good things will come. Remember, all roads lead to Athens.

This year, Georgia received 16,585 early action applications and made 7,025 offers of admissions.

Kylie Dunlap was one of those fortunate enough to be admitted. A senior at Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia, Kylie’s excitement poured through the phone screens of everyone who watched her reaction video on Twitter. The joy that not only overtook Kylie, but her parents as well, was contagious.

This video of Kylie and her family prompted me to search for some more clips of soon-to-be Dawgs receiving the best news possible.

And they did not disappoint.

Georgia football tickets vs TAMU: Stats and info on price trend

Stats and info on the price trend for Georgia football tickets vs Texas A&M.

Georgia vs Texas A&M this Saturday will mark the first time the two two programs have met since the Aggies joined the SEC in 2012.

And with this being No. 4 Georgia’s final home game of the season, ticket prices are not coming cheap. However, they are cheaper now than if you were to buy them just a few days ago.

This weekend’s game is averaging $317 per ticket on the secondary market and the get-in price is currently $88, down $50 earlier this week, according to TicketIQ. The average price has gone down 21% over the course of the week.

Also, with Georgia having secured a spot in the SEC Championship Game, tickets for the conference title game have skyrocketed.

Tickets for the 2019 SEC Championship are the most expensive of any conference championship, by a lot. Currently, the average asking price for a ticket to the game on the secondary market is $1,285, up from $820 last year, and the highest it’s been this decade. The next priciest game was the 2017 Georgia-Auburn game, which settled at a $945 average asking price. The cheapest ticket in the 71,00-seat stadium is trending at $343. The next most expensive 2019 conference championship is the Big 10 Championship,  starting at $92.

The Bulldogs have a real shot at making another visit to the College Football Playoff, and with Georgia’s success comes an increase in ticket prices. Playoff tickets are up over the last two weeks, as you can see below.
