Ranking SEC football recruiting classes after first day of early signing period

3 SEC teams sit at the top of the 2022 recruiting rankings after ESD day 1…

The first day of the early signing period in the 2022 recruiting class has come to an end.

Most programs have already signed most of their recruits and the same is true for Georgia football, who signed 23 commits out of 27 total.

The SEC, once again, dominated this year’s recruiting cycle, as three league programs sit at the top of the 247Sports national recruiting rankings.

Here is how the SEC football recruiting rankings resulted after day one, according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings, along with some metrics for each program’s 2022 class.

Georgia target, 4-star LB Shemar James makes commitment

Nation’s No. 7 LB makes his college decision…

Georgia football has had a big start to the early signing period on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs currently hold the No. 3 ranked class and have a shot at moving to No. 1 before things are all said and done in the 2022 class in February (247Sports).

The next major target on Georgia’s board is four-star linebacker Shemar James out of Mobile, Ala.

The Faith Academy prospect has chosen Florida over Georgia and Alabama.

James is rated as the No. 7 linebacker in the country and the No. 64 recruit overall.

Even with missing out on five-star safety Kamari Wilson and James to Florida, the Bulldogs have signed one of the best classes in the country with time to spare.

Here’s a look at UGA’s 2022 class to date:

Shone ‘Rilla’ Washington signs with Georgia football

3-star DL Shone ‘Rilla’ Washington is officially a Bulldog…

It’s early signing day and Georgia football is working on one of the top recruiting classes in the country.

The Bulldogs currently sit at No. 3 (247Sports), but still have plenty of more time before things are settled in the 2022 class in February.

The most recent recruit to send in his letter of intent to become a Bulldog is 3-star defensive lineman Shone ‘Rilla’ Washington. This comes despite a late push by the Florida Gators.

The Warren Easton High School (New Orleans) prospect is rated as the No. 64 defensive lineman in the country, per 247Sports Composite.

Huge Georgia football target, 5-star EDGE Marvin Jones Jr. commits to Georgia

The No. 2 EDGE in the country is all DAWG

Wednesday marks the beginning of the early signing period, which will last till Friday. It allows recruits to get a head start to their college careers by signing their letters of intent before the traditional signing day in February.

Georgia football is currently closing in on the No. 1 ranked class in the country (247Sports).

One of the coveted commits the Bulldogs have been after is Marvin Jones Jr., the No. 2 edge player in the country and the No. 22 recruit overall in the 2022 class.

Good news for Georgia is Jones Jr. is all Bulldog.

Georgia football target, No. 2 safety Kamari Wilson makes commitment

The country’s No. 2 safety makes his college decision…

Georgia football is closing in on securing the No. 1 ranked recruiting class as the early signing period kicks off.

A big part of UGA’s efforts have come at the defensive back position, as the Bulldogs are actually losing more in the secondary than are set to come in at the moment.

That means five-star safety Kamari Wilson, the No. 2 ranked safety in the country (247Sports), is a huge priority for Georgia.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, rival Florida has swept in and secured a commitment from the IMG Academy star.

The Gators had the highest ranked recruiting class in the SEC (76) before Wilson’s commitment.

  • 5-star CB Jaheim Singletary

  • 5-star CB Daylen Everette

  • 4-star CB Julian Humphrey

  • 4-star CB Marquise Groves-Killebrew

Georgia is hot on the recruiting trail with early signing period beginning Wednesday.

One of the biggest additions to the Dawgs’ 2022 class came on Tuesday with the commitment from one of the best defensive backs in the country, five-star Daylen Everette, a former Clemson commit.

Everette (IMG Academy) is rated as the No. 6 corner in the country, the No. 6 player in the state of Florida and the No. 29 recruit overall in the 2022 recruiting class.

Everette’s addition boosts the Bulldogs past Alabama into the No. 1 spot in the 2022 recruiting rankings, per 247Sports.

Georgia has added commitments from 3-star offensive lineman Drew Bobo and speedy four-star receiver C.J. Smith all since Monday night.

Check back to the UGA Wire for more recruiting updates as signing day approaches.

Gibson announced his decommitment from Florida via his Twitter account:

Florida has lost several commitments in recent weeks. Gibson may be considering the Georgia Bulldogs as an option, but he may want to wait beyond the early signing period before making his college decision.
