All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Packers take athletic and disruptive DL in Dane Brugler’s latest mock draft

Dane Brugler’s post-combine mock draft has the Packers taking 325-pound DL Travis Jones (UConn) in the first round.

The Green Bay Packers grabbed an athletic and disruptive defensive lineman prospect in Dane Brugler’s latest mock draft for The Athletic.

Brugler has the Packers taking UConn’s Travis Jones at No. 28 overall in his post-combine mock draft.

Jones (6-4, 325) has dominated the pre-draft process so far, including the combine.

From Brugler: “It would be easy to overlook Jones playing for a program like UConn, but he has made it impossible for anyone to miss him throughout the draft process. He was nearly unblockable at the Senior Bowl and continued that momentum at the combine, crushing the position drills and posting outstanding numbers (4.92 40-yard dash, 7.33 three-cone drill) at 325 pounds.”

A mix of strength and athleticism, Jones could team with Pro Bowler Kenny Clark to give the Packers a pair of foundational pieces for Joe Barry’s defensive line.

Brennen Rupp of Packers Wire believes Jones has potential as a pass-rusher and “the quickness to win one-on-ones” on the interior.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jones produced 25 pressures and 21 run stops during his final season at UConn.

“He was the only guy on that defense,” Rupp said, “and was still able to be a disruptive force.”

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com compared Jones to Jonathan Hankins and called him a “nose tackle with size and power” and a “rumbling play style.”

“Jones has the demeanor, traits and overall ability to become a successful run-plugger and potential starter in a two-gapping scheme,” Zierlein wrote.

With great testing numbers at 325 pounds, Jones produced a Relative Athletic Score of 9.65 of 10.0. The Packers typically target young and highly athletic prospects in the first round under general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Clark needs help along the defensive line, and adding a big, athletic player like Jones could open up more attacking possibilities for others in the Packers  front seven.

“In Green Bay, he’ll face constantly one-on-ones with teams focusing on Kenny Clark and Rashan Gary. That late in the first round you bet on the traits and upside that Jones possesses,” Rupp said.

In the second round of Brugler’s mock, the Packers took Montana State linebacker Troy Andersen, who is an ascending prospect after running the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds at the combine.

It’s Twosday, 2/22/22, so here are two-themed sports bets you should make to celebrate

It’s a day where all the numbers align! Of course we’re going to bet on it!

Let’s just be honest. Bettors hardly ever need a reason to place a wager. We see a line we like, we take it and we ask very little questions.

But that doesn’t mean gamblers don’t absolutely love having a reason to place a bet. Why not make every day feel as exciting as Super Bowl Sunday? Well, fortunately, this Tuesday, February 22, 2022 has provided just the reason for us to get excited.

Sports bettors are already obsessed with numbers (read: odds), so let’s run down our best bets that take advantage of 2/22/22. But we’re adding a twist here and only looking at bets that prominently feature the number 2 or 22.

FBS teams Notre Dame has losing record against

The Irish don’t lead every head-to-head matchup.

As winning a tradition that Notre Dame has, that tradition hasn’t always shined through. In fact, there are some schools that the Irish have lost to more times than they’ve beaten. A few other teams have beaten the Irish the only time they’ve faced them, and still others have more than one victory without having lost at all. Given how big the Irish are in more ways than one, that’s a sense of pride for anyone.

Who are the lucky few that can say with certitude that they have the upper hand on Notre Dame? For our purposes, we’ll narrow it down to the programs currently competing at the Football Bowl Subdivision level. Quick shoutout to the teams that never will have to worry about losing this distinction because they either don’t play in the Irish’s division anymore or they no longer exist. Those programs are Yale, Knox, Chicago and Great Lakes Navy.

Now, here are the FBS programs that have true bragging rights over the Irish:

UConn victorious against Lady Vols in Hartford, 75-56

UConn is victorious against the Lady Vols in Hartford, 75-56.

No. 7 Tennessee (19-4, 8-2 SEC) lost its third consecutive road game Sunday.

No. 10 UConn defeated Tennessee, 75-56, at XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

The Huskies (15-4, 9-0 Big East) scored the first 14 points of the third quarter. UConn opened a 46-25 advantage with 6 minutes, 17 seconds left in the third quarter.

Connecticut outscored Tennessee, which has lost three of its last four games, 23-11, in the third quarter.

Jordan Horston led Tennessee with 26 points and was the only Lady Vol to post double figures in the scoring column. She also had eight rebounds and three assists.

Rae Burrell scored nine points for Tennessee.

The Huskies’ Azzi Fudd led all scorers with 25 points. Aaliyah Edwards and Tennessee transfer Evina Westbrook scored 14 points each for Connecticut.

Former Vols’ signee set to play at UConn

Former Tennessee football signee set to play at UConn.

Former Tennessee signee Marquez Bembry signed with UConn on national signing day Wednesday.

“A leader on the field and off the field,” UConn announced following Bembry’s signing.

The 6-foot-3, 232-pound linebacker signed with Tennessee in the Vols’ 2017 recruiting class under former head coach Butch Jones.

He transferred to Jones County Junior College after signing with Tennessee. Bembry did not play for Tennessee after not qualifying academically.

Bembry transferred from Jones County Junior College to Kentucky. He played for the Wildcats from 2019-21, totaling 29 tackles in 13 games.

He recorded one tackle against the Vols during the 2021 season. Tennessee defeated Kentucky, 45-42, at Kroger Field.

Paige Bueckers’ very rare knee injury, explained

This is such a weird injury but it shouldn’t derail Paige Bueckers’ career

The college basketball world breathed a collective sigh of relief on Tuesday after UConn finally revealed the extend of Paige Bueckers’ knee injury.

For those of you out of the loop, Bueckers went down with a non-contact knee injury on Sunday against Notre Dame. She went to make a move and her knee just buckled underneath her.

Folks feared the worst after seeing it happen live, naturally. Again, this was a non-contact knee injury. Those things are literally never good. You can only hope for minimal damage at that point.

That’s why when UConn announced the injury was a tibial plateau fracture, people were a bit relieved.

They tweeted the news out on Tuesday.

Obviously, this still stinks. But compared to the alternatives of a potential ligament injury? This seems fine. It doesn’t throw too much of a wrench into her already stellar college career.

But this injury is still weird, though. A tibial plateau fracture? That’s a rare one. Folks had lots of questions about what it actually is and how it works.

Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Here’s more information about what this is and how it can be dealt with.

Notre Dame’s Sonia Citron wins third ACC Freshman of the Week

What more can Citron accomplish this season?

Notre Dame might have its next legend in the making in Sonia Citron. How else to explain the hardware she already has earned during her short time in South Bend. For the third time out of a possible four weeks, Citron has been named the ACC Freshman of the Week. The Irish record for this award since the program entered the conference is six, set by Brianna Turner during the 2014-15 season.

Citron earned the award after a 29-point performance against Michigan State, followed by 19 points against UConn, which was ranked second at the time the game was played. Through five games, she is third on the Irish with 6.2 rebounds a game and fifth with 10.2 points a game. She also is shooting 48.8 percent from the field.

Obviously, it’s way too soon to add Citron to the Purcell Pavilion Ring of Honor, but the path to that honor is becoming clearer with each game.

Michigan State basketball beats No. 22 UConn in Battle 4 Atlantis

Michigan State basketball beats No. 22 UConn in Battle 4 Atlantis

If yesterday was the Malik Hall game, today’s win by Michigan State basketball over No. 22 UConn in the Battle 4 Atlantis was the Julius Marble and Gabe Brown show. The Spartans beat UConn 64-60 in a hard fought game.

Brown had a 16 point, 10 rebound double-double and Marble added 15 points and 4 rebounds and added a lot of much needed physicality to the Spartans’ attack. AJ Hoggard added 5 assists, including some heroic playmaking in the late stages of the game.

On the UConn side, this definitely looks like a different team than what we’ve seen in recent years from the Huskies. Adama Sanogo was extremely impressive, racking up 18 points and 10 rebounds. Tyrese Martin also impressed, scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds.

MSU will face the winner of VCU vs. Baylor on Friday at 11am PT.

UConn absolutely roasted UCF for using an imposter ‘Civil ConFLiCT’ trophy and it was glorious

This is GOLD.

UConn’s football team might be 1-9 in real life but they are absolutely undefeated on the internet right now.

They roasted UCF today. Cooked em. Fried. Sauteed. Baked. Whatever you want to call it, that’s what they did. It was just the perfect way to get things started ahead of their matchup on Sunday.

And it’s all because they posted a video of a fake rivalry trophy that they actually wanted nothing to do with six years ago when it first became, well, a thing.

It was fantastic. UCF posted it standing alone in their stadium via their Twitter account.

UCONN wouldn’t have it. They took a shot at UCF’s “National Championship” from 2017. You know, the one from when they won the Peach Bowl.

SPICY. This is incredible content. There’s a backstory to it, though, that makes it even better.
